Exoskeletal shields are items that transform into shields by using the TAP command.

They will transform back to item form by using the SHAKE command.

They may be upgraded with potency crystals to unlock higher tier quality (up to Tier 6) and self-repair capability.

Ring form

• TAP: Your ring breaks apart explosively into thousands of swarming spiders, which scuttle down your arm in a frenzy! The arachnid wave flows as one, moving with an apparent collective consciousness. Your hand is covered with twisting and writhing legs, but only briefly as the spiders resolidify into a deep ebony exoskeletal shield entangled by a cluster of orbweavers.

Shield form

• SHAKE: You shake your exoskeletal shield, causing it to break apart into thousands of live spiders. The swarm of arachnids scuttles quickly up your arm, nestling themselves on your person until they finally melt and coagulate into a deep ebony orbweaver ring with a glossy carapace.

Unlocks

There are a total of 4 potential unlocks for (exoskeletal jewelry).
1) Allows the shield to self-repair between uses (UNLOCKED!)
2) Allows the shield spawned to flex to tier 4 stats (UNLOCKED!)
3) Allows the shield spawned to flex to tier 5 stats (UNLOCKED!)
4) Allows the shield spawned to flex to tier 6 stats (UNLOCKED!)
You've already achieved the maximum allowed unlocks.
You can't tell anything else about (exoskeletal jewelry).

Alteration Rules

This is a specialty service offered by select live merchants, such as the Spidersworn.

Jewelry

What can be customized: the short (including the noun), the full tap, look, and read.
The design must be something spidery. (You can change the species of spider.)
Noun changes may be allowed (at the merchant’s discretion) as long as:

1. the two nouns are roughly synonymous
2. the desired noun would be worn in the same slot as the original noun
3. the desired noun is available in a 24/7 shop
4. the desired noun doesn’t clash with existing verbs and messaging

Shield

What can be customized: the short ID (excluding the noun), the full tap, and the look.
The design must be something spidery. (You can change the species of spider.)

The noun and template cannot be changed.
Adjective changes may be allowed so long as they don’t imply a change of template.

The word “exoskeletal” must remain in the tap.
Traditionally, the color is “deep ebony,” but other colors are possible if they match the new look. (The default look is “The [noun] would be perfectly shaped, if not for the unusual ridges which line its surface. Most of the odd bumps appear to be formed of insect-like legs, fused together to create a solid, waxy-black shape.”)
These shields are made of spiders, so the base material cannot be changed. But you can embellish it with other materials. (You must provide adequate amounts of any rare materials you want to add.)
