In Charge of Wiki Development

I am wondering whom is in charge of this wiki. I will assume that to be you and ask a few questions here. --Callek 12:22, 26 March 2007 (CDT)

I am simply the most active sysop at the moment. Trel is hosting the wiki now and can work with more of the server/extension side issues, though I can do everything sysop related and forward information to him.--Naeya (talk) 12:48, 26 March 2007 (CDT)
I am the Trel that Naeya talks so much about. :) I see this being handled in a divided way. The community of editors will set down acceptable policies for in game secrets or creation of templates. Legal issues such as licenses are best referred back to me. -- Trel

Content Copyright

There is no associated copyright of the content here that I can (easily) find, such as a Creative Commons, Open Documentation Licence, etc. This, imo, hurts the viability of this endeavor. As well as my willingness to contribute. (as I can *not* really guarantee what others can do with my words and vice versa). --Callek 12:22, 26 March 2007 (CDT)

I will look into getting this information to you as soon as I speak with Trel.--Naeya (talk) 12:48, 26 March 2007 (CDT)
The problem here is many, you (elanthipedia people) cannot simply change the copyright attribution here without asking permission from ALL contributors of ALL pages you do it to. So it might be best to restrict editing until such time as people agree. And then there's me. Where I have many edits I'd like to actually make (in many areas), but would NOT want to leave the ambiguity of copyright of my edits out there. --Callek 13:26, 26 March 2007 (CDT)
I guess I'm not really sure what you are looking for here. Something like GNU? It's not like we're suddenly going to close the wiki down, change to a "regular" website, and claim all the contributions as our own. I say "our" though I mean Trel, I suppose, since he's hosting it. I'm a contributor and the only reason I have admin status is that I've been the most active contributor and "moderator" as we should say, since the new year and now new hosting.
I have to say I guess I'm just trusting in nature, as I had no clue about needing most of these issues addressed. I apologize for that.--Naeya (talk) 13:36, 26 March 2007 (CDT)
Its a bit of an enigma really. I trust Trel, you, and really many people until I am given a reason not to trust them. But without a clear copyright notice, any material here cannot be used elsewhere by any means, as tracking down EVERY contributor to an article is hard. Its also equally hard to include *any* GNU Documentation stuff in an article here, or a Creative Commons document here, etc. It is more of a "how is my content going to be used" and "I don't mind it used this way". Some people don't like changes to their own words, while by editing in a wiki that should be assumed, it *is* a valid point. And the copyright on the wiki should show this point. My personal recomendation for a copyright is that as detailed on http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/MDC:Copyrights ... To summarize that page, Creative Commons: Attribution Share-Alike licence for the content. And in any and all places that a script is used (if they are allowed here) to follow that of the MIT Licence. --Callek 13:59, 26 March 2007 (CDT)
Part of The problem is without a copyright policy for contributions though, the contributions are SOLELY the copyright of the author. And said authors really retain any and all copyrights they wish to enforce, including rights to keep the material solely where they first publihed it, (rangerrawb.com anyone?) And where they would rather not have anyone edit their own words, (see: Triage_Explained for a page written exactly as an Article which might be assumed to be self-contained for the author only) --Callek 13:59, 26 March 2007 (CDT)
Well true. Everytime an edit is made, users will see this info "Please note that all contributions to Elanthipedia may be edited, altered, or removed by other contributors. If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly, then don't submit it here.
"You are also promising us that you wrote this yourself, or copied it from a public domain or similar free resource (see Project:Copyrights for details). DO NOT SUBMIT COPYRIGHTED WORK WITHOUT PERMISSION!" That is just part of the editing page with MediaWiki. I'll look into beefing up what's in the Project:Copyrights page to cover some of your points--Naeya (talk) 14:44, 26 March 2007 (CDT)
IMO using one of the official Copyright docs such as the Creative Commons, or GNU such that stuff can be copied off if need be, in other words, a more tried and true copyright mechanic (or have a lawyer look at it and write on for elanthipedia). --Callek 15:04, 26 March 2007 (CDT)
The GNU Free Documentation License or Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 License might be appropriate here. This wiki will largely deal with content that is written by contributers here or used under Fair Use guidelines in the United States. Either license would be appropriate (in my opinion) for content contributed by editors here. -- Trel

Wiki Policies

The Privacy Policy and Disclaimer appears to have been lifted from another webservice with the concept that "Elanthipedia" is in fact a legal entity. Should it not be, you would *legally* need to represent "Elanthipedia" as a person, with a real-world contact address. Or simply munge your privacy policy to ensure that elanthipedia is in-fact not a legal entity. As it stands, if a Privacy issue as expressed there is broken, there is no legal entity expressed on these pages to point any claim. --Callek 12:22, 26 March 2007 (CDT)

Again, Trel set that up. It can easily be changed.--Naeya (talk) 12:48, 26 March 2007 (CDT)
This bears more investigation. -- Trel

Wiki Policies (DR Related)

You also do not express any policies on the inclusion of any "In Game" (or "In Forum") secrets. As there are things that are IG secrets, but not In Forum Secrets. And then there is "open information". Which asset does the wiki here allow. Am I able to post anything and everything about thief "cookies" or even mention their names (like on the boards). How about the quest to enter Hara. Or a Warrior Mage Pathway Quest solution. No information regarding this. --Callek 12:22, 26 March 2007 (CDT)

Personally, I don't care if the spoilers are added as long as they are clearly marked and on a separate page perhaps, even in different color font so you have to actively highlight the text in order to see the data. The thief info is another matter, and I'm not sure if/when we'll even consider disclosing that information. Again, at this point, this is just my opinion as a player.--Naeya (talk) 12:48, 26 March 2007 (CDT)

Spam Policy

Non-Existent. --Callek 12:22, 26 March 2007 (CDT)

Noted, and put on my list of "what to email Trel about."--Naeya (talk) 12:48, 26 March 2007 (CDT)

Wiki Extensions

The only one employed is <imagemap> (and the quasi-built in one <pre>) Might I suggest <cite> and the *spamblacklist* extension as a starter. Then also include my suggestion for: CategoryTree. All of these are on the wikipedia site (see Special:Version of Wikipedia) --Callek 12:22, 26 March 2007 (CDT)

Seconded. Also could we get ParserFunctions installed for this wiki? If you look in the history of the At a Glance template you'll see where I tried to use it...would make the template handle empty variables better. (I also see User:Farman was trying to use #expr in one of his edits). --Grindinghalt 12:36, 26 March 2007 (CDT)
Thank you for your suggestions, will be looking into all of them.--Naeya (talk) 12:48, 26 March 2007 (CDT)
SpamBlackList, ParserFunctions, and Newuserlog are now installed. We tried Cite, but it caused some problems.--Naeya (talk) 21:13, 26 March 2007 (CDT)

Wiki Configuration

If at all possible, it could be good to post the contents of LocalSettings.php on here (NOT counting the local-filepath [$IP] and NOT counting the DB User/Pass) So that we, the elanthipedia users, can suggest changes. --Callek 12:22, 26 March 2007 (CDT)

Ditto above.--Naeya (talk) 12:48, 26 March 2007 (CDT)
LocalSettings.php--Naeya (talk) 21:13, 26 March 2007 (CDT)

Site Favicon

I would also like to ask that elanthipedia do NOT use the simu play.net (dr) icon, as it only serves to confuse when multiple sites from different companies use the same icon (even Google uses different icons for different services) :-) --Callek 12:24, 26 March 2007 (CDT)

I truly wasn't aware he had incorporated that icon. I definitely wouldn't have.--Naeya (talk) 12:48, 26 March 2007 (CDT)
Thinking on this now, perhaps we can come up with an original logo as well as a matching favicon. I'm not artistic by any means, but perhaps I can come up with something.--Naeya (talk) 13:41, 26 March 2007 (CDT)
If I had any artistic talent (with original works anyway) I'd help here, but alas, I do not. --Callek 13:59, 26 March 2007 (CDT)
I believe the favicon.ico file was copied across when I saved images from Play.net for use here. It has been removed. -- Trel

Contributor Group

I know that most DR Groups/Lists have been with eGroups/YahooGroups (and oneList before that), but I have found Google Groups to be more robust and effecient since then, and I would suggest looking into using that rather than Yahoo for the contributors group before things get big there, but that is purely a personal recomendation/observation. --Callek 15:08, 26 March 2007 (CDT)

I'll look into the Google Groups. Will let you guys know.--Naeya (talk) 17:24, 26 March 2007 (CDT)
Wow, I do like the Google Groups better. New group is here. Sorry Glimmereyes! You were the only member besides my husband who had joined so far. Hehe. New group is at here: Elanthipedia Contributors. I thought it would be a good idea. My talk page can only get so big!--Naeya (talk) 17:33, 26 March 2007 (CDT)

Spell Template

Hey Naeya, I'll get the spell template in soon as I can (within the week I hope). I'm still training my wiki skill and need to learn more about how to format a nice bordered table from scratch. The existing resources are a bit incomplete and difficult to wade through, I am finding. Farman 16:46, 31 March 2007 (CDT)

Disambiguating an Article

Seeing how you handled Holy Warrior, I do agree it needed to be disambiguated. But might I suggest in the future to MOVE the original Article to its new name (so as to keep revision history with the original article), and then edit the old page-name (which is now a new article with #REDIRECT) --Callek 12:10, 1 April 2007 (CDT)

Noted for future reference, and thank you --Naeya (talk) 12:17, 1 April 2007 (CDT)

title template

hey, I created, (for the most part) a title template

I was getting sick of having duplicated information...

See User:Callek/Sandbox and User:Callek/Sandbox2 Note links used there are wrong, only because of User namespace.

"What do you think"?

Looks good to me. Would definitely make keeping things consistent easier. Go ahead and implement the template. --Naeya (talk) 09:23, 4 April 2007 (CDT)

Shop templates

I see you're starting on the shop revamp, do you think you've finalized the shop templates? I was going to go through some of the shops in Ilithi that I did a while back, but don't want to start editing them unless you're done. --Grindinghalt 16:37, 4 April 2007 (CDT)
