[Sinjian's Bardic Requisites, Sales Room]
Inside the basswood tree grows a green patch of grass, lending it the ambience of a courtyard. Full of goldfish, a stone fount is an unexpected centerpiece to the eccentric atelier of Sinjian the bard, the charismatic but mercurial musical instrument maker and teacher. Examples of his work, from harps, lyres, psalteries, and lutes to recorders, flutes and pennywhistles, line the shop walls. You also see a stone counter with an inventory catalog on it, the woodcarver's apprentice, and an arched doorway.
Obvious exits: up, down, out.

[Sinjian's Bardic Requisites, Workshop]
Soundboards, strings, reeds, frets and various unidentifiable pieces cover a broad work table here, looking more like a giant, unsolved jigsaw puzzle than the exquisite instruments they will be turned into by the skilled hands of Sinjian and his apprentices. One such apprentice is planing some wood in the corner, her gaze intent upon her task. You also see a tall walnut arch.
Obvious exits: down.

[Sinjian's Bardic Requisites, Workshop]
Silver moonlight spilling in from a large bay window to the north casts deep shadows in the lee of the shelves and cabinets to either side. Only the illumination of a single glass lantern sitting on a long table lightens the enveloping darkness. Sitting there in the pool of golden radiance are several piles of unsewn cloth, awaiting a tailor's touch in the morning. You also see a tall walnut arch, the weaver Sinysa and a polished pine table with some stuff on it.
Obvious exits: none.

[Sinjian's Bardic Requisites, Practice Room]]
This modest sized chamber has curved walls and an arched ceiling to enhance the acoustics of any practice or performance. Bardic verses, with their strict metrical patterns and themes of battle, glory and heroism, may be recited at the top of one's lungs, or that shaky fiddle tune practiced until it is impossible to resist its call to the dance. It is in this room that Sinjian's select students receive their lessons as well. You also see a stool and a music stand.
Obvious exits: up.

[Sinjian's Bardic Requisites, Storeroom]
The mingled scents of dust and cedar linger on the air like a bitter perfume. Low trunks banded with brass vie with wicker mannequins and old hardwood tables for space along the walls in this cluttered storeroom, remnants of festivals from a time long past. Sinuous pathways lead from the door to a cleared area where someone has uncovered some of the old wares and put them back on display. You also see an aging Halfling woodcarver and an arched doorway.
Obvious exits: none.

Aging Halfling Woodcarver (wanders in store)

The Halfling woodcarver is clad in a pair of wrinkled woolen breeches and a loose white linen shirt with the sleeves rolled back. A leather woodwind pouch hangs on his belt next to a small sheath, its partnering knife currently in the woodcarver's hands carving away at a rosewood stick. Catching you looking at him, he nods and winks, brushing a lock of greying brunette hair out of his hazel eyes.

  • ASK woodcarver about pin: The Halfling woodcarver rummages around in his pockets. "I have some pins I've carved in the shape of a bird around here some-- aha." He smiles triumphantly, pulling out an assortment of different bird pins to show to you. "Perfect to jes' PUT on your favorite instrument pouch. I'll part with one for a gold piece. If you'd like one, I'll select one of them for you - just ask me for a pin. I haveta pay that miser Sinjian m'girl's tuition after all."
  • ASK woodcarver for pin: An aging Halfling woodcarver rummages around in his pouch, finally pulling a cherry hawk pin from it and handing it to you in exchange for his fee. "Jes' PUT this on your favorite woodwind or long pouch," he tells you with a grin. "This'll spiff it right up for you."
  • ASK woodcarver about wood: An aging Halfling woodcarver nods to you, still whittling away at a roughened bird shaped piece of rosewood in his hands. "Bring me a piece of wood or a stick, and I can carve it into a whistle for you for a small fee. My daughter's newly apprenticed to Sinjian, and I owe that old skinflint her tuition."
  • ASK woodcarver about whistle: With a nod in your direction, the Halfling woodcarver says, "Whistles are handy things to have around. Would you like me to carve one for you?" He raises an eyebrow in your direction. "Only five silver, if you can bring me a stick to whittle it from. Make sure you only bring me uncarved wood, mind!"
  • GIVE woodcarver: The Halfling woodcarver accepts your stick, looking at it appraisingly as he turns it from side to side. Satisfied with it, he begins to hum the notes of "Swift Runs the Blood" as his agile fingers strip away the bark and carve a rough shape from the soft wood beneath. He shapes the wings and tail with deft curls of his knife, carefully hollowing out a section in the middle. After only a few minutes, he presents you with an ash phoenix whistle and collects his fee.
