Those who are estate holders are able to purchase private homes within the lands of Elanthia.

Acquiring a Home

To purchase a home, a character must be on a premium account which has no characters on it that already own homes (IE Only one character per account may own a home).

Once a character is an estate holder, they are entitled to home ownership. The easiest way to purchase a home is by visiting the office of permits in any city's town hall and typing ASK CLERK ABOUT HOMES. You then pay the fee that the clerk states (GIVE CLERK <amount>) and you are ready to claim a home. Once you are so prepared, you may find a home you like in any of the housing areas and (as long as it is currently unclaimed) type HOME CLAIM to claim it.

The other way to acquire a home is to purchase a deed from another player. Much of the above process still applies, however instead of claiming a home through HOME CLAIM you use the deed to gain access to the home. Typing HOME and HOME HELP in game brings up the full functionality of the verb.

Housing Areas

Housing areas are specialized locations created specifically for the purpose of holding high volumes of livable homes. These areas are generally a bit off the beaten path, and are often centered around a general theme--for example, housing in Arthe Dale is fairly halfling-specific, while there are dormitories only available to warrior mages in Muspar'i. Areas may also be divided by apparent income level, though all homes currently cost the same.

Occasionally, special homes will go up for auction. Generally these are manors or other large homes central to the location.

Furniture

Furniture is available in shops across Elanthia, and fits into the following categories:

  1. Table
  2. Couch or Bed
  3. Chairs
  4. Rug
  5. Fireplace
  6. Chest or Cabinet
  7. Flooring
  8. Windows
  9. "Outside" item.
  10. Door
  11. Walls

Each house can currently only have one of each "piece", though items like chairs come in sets of four (a number which can be reduced by arranging the furniture after it is purchased). Once placed in the home, the furniture can be rearranged to suit your tastes through the HOME verb.

Furthermore, each piece of furniture can hold items which, depending on the arrangement of the furniture, may be displayed in the room's description. The walls also support items, and things can be stashed under the bed for later retrieval.

Be advised, though, that anything left on the floor is considered fair game for the janitor.

Pets

Pets are a special kind of furniture that can be purchased. Pets are available at pet stores, most of which have rotating stock or only appear during festivals or similar events.

Once you have purchased a pet, it is delivered to your house. Pets give random messaging specific to the animal unless you POKE them, which causes them to fall asleep until poked again.

A pet's gender can be changed ONCE by TAPPING it. Once you change the gender, it is permanently set, so use caution.

Scents

Typing HOME SCENT inside your home allows you to set a scent for the home. You can define the scent and its intensity with the settings found therein.
