Drag
Drags a player, a body or an object lying on the ground out of the room with you, either in a compass direction or through a portal. Requires a free hand, and the load is checked against your Strength and encumbrance.
DRAG <player> <direction>

You see: You grab <target>'s arm and drag <him/her> <direction> with you . . .
  Roundtime: 3 seconds.
Target sees: <Name> grabs your arm and drags you <direction> with <him/her> . . .
Others see: <Name> grabs <target>'s arm and drags <him/her> <direction> with <him/her>.
Destination room sees: <Name> just arrived, dragging <target> behind <him/her>.

DRAG <body> <direction>
You see: You grab <target>'s body and drag it <direction> with you . . .
Others see: <Name> grabs <target>'s body and drags it <direction> with <him/her>.
Destination room sees: <Name> just arrived, dragging the body of <target> behind <him/her>.

DRAG <object> <direction>
You see: You grab the <object> and drag it <direction> with you . . .
Others see: <Name> just dragged <the object> with <him/her> as <he/she> went <direction>.
Destination room sees: <Name> just arrived, dragging <the object> with <him/her>.

DRAG <target> <portal>
You see: You grab <target>'s arm and drag <him/her> with you . . .
Target sees: <Name> just went through <the portal>, dragging you with <him/her>.
Others see: <Name> just went through <the portal>, dragging <target> with <him/her>.
Destination room sees: <Name> just came through <the portal>, dragging <target> behind <him/her>.

Syntax

  • DRAG <OBJECT | PLAYER> <DIRECTION>
Drags the target into the adjacent room in that direction. The directions accepted are north, northeast (ne), east, southeast (se), south, southwest (sw), west, northwest (nw), up, down and out. Single-letter abbreviations are not recognized.
  • DRAG <OBJECT | PLAYER> <PORTAL>
Drags the target through a portal in the room — a gate, an arch, a door, a bridge, a trail. The portal may be named with more than one word, and an optional in, with, across or through may sit between the target and the portal, so drag rock through the narrow doorway works as well as drag rock doorway. There is no GO, CLIMB or SWIM form of the verb, and no SNEAK form.

What Can Be Dragged

  • Another player, standing, seated, prone or dead.
  • An object resting on the ground, or on, behind or under something. An item in your inventory or inside a container cannot be dragged until it is put down.
  • Creatures, coins and portals cannot be dragged, and neither can you drag yourself or a GameMaster.

Requirements

Dragging needs a free hand, so a weapon or shield in both hands must be stowed first. You must be standing, out of combat, and carrying nothing at your feet. Wounds to the back, chest, arms or hands can put you in no condition to drag, and leg or general walking impairment stops it as well.

Notes

  • Dragging takes 3 seconds of roundtime and costs fatigue, scaled by how heavy the load is and offset by your Stamina. If it drives your fatigue to nothing you collapse.
  • Whether the drag succeeds is a check of your Strength and remaining encumbrance against the weight of what you are dragging, plus an open-ended roll, so a marginal load may move on a later attempt. You can drag roughly three times the weight you could carry.
  • Being over-encumbered while dragging can drop you to your knees: Whoops! You lose your balance due to all the weight you are carrying and fall to your knees!
  • AVOID DRAGGING stops other characters from dragging you, and from dragging your corpse — which also prevents anyone from moving your body to a healer.
  • Ring of Spears around either character blocks the drag, and Soul Bonding on a corpse roots it in place.

Failure Messaging

  • You tug at the <object>, but can't get it to budge. — and, to the room, <Name> tries to drag the <object>, but can't get it to budge.
  • You grab <target>'s arm and try to drag <him/her>, but <he/she> is too heavy.
  • You grab <target>'s arm and try to drag <him/her>, but <he/she> doesn't budge.
  • Usage: DRAG <object | player> <direction>
  • Drag in which direction?
  • You must stand up first.
  • But you don't have a free hand!
  • You notice <item> at your feet, and do not wish to leave it behind.
  • You find yourself unable to move with items at your feet.
  • But it's closed!
  • That cannot be dragged.
  • You can't drag <creature> around!
  • You must place it on the ground, before you can drag it anywhere!
  • You must take it out of the <container>, before you can drag it anywhere.

  • Drag a GameMaster around? Not on your life!
