Syntax
- SIGNAL
- Performs a signaling gesture. This form does not direct a person or other arbitrary target.
- SIGNAL <COMPANION>
- Attempts to signal your active Ranger companion, but without an action it asks, Signal them to do what? The companion's noun, such as raccoon or wolf, may be used in place of COMPANION.
- SIGNAL <COMPANION> TO/WITH <ACTION>
- Directs your active Ranger companion to perform an action.
- SIGNAL <COMPANION> TO/WITH <ACTION> <TARGET>
- Directs your active Ranger companion to perform an action that requires a target.
- SIGNAL HORSE <ACTION>
- SIGNAL HORSE TO/WITH <ACTION>
- Directs your horse. The available actions depend on the horse's training, the rider and the horse's bond with its owner.
Ranger Companions
The companion forms are restricted to Rangers and require the Ranger's active companion to be in the same room. Only one companion may be active at a time. See Ranger companion for the actions available to raccoons and wolves, including FIND, GET, DROP, STOP, JUMP, SIT, STAND, STAY, HIDE, UNHIDE, HUNT and SLEEP.
The observer message is suppressed when the companion is hidden or invisible. Ranger observers recognize the motion as a signal; other observers see only a gesture.
Companion-specific failures include:
- You sense no bond to any animal companion.
- You sense only a very weak bond to an animal companion. Perhaps if you were to call one to your side?
- Your companion does not seem to be with you at the moment. Perhaps you should get out there and track them down first?
Horses
The horse form requires the owner's horse to be in the room and wearing a halter. It cannot be used while the character is hidden or invisible. The movement commands, JOUST, STAND, SPIN, REAR and CHARGE require the owner to be mounted. KNEEL, BEG and SIGNAL HORSE RETREAT require the owner to be unmounted; a mounted rider uses RETREAT instead. ATTACK has no mounted-state requirement.
Horse actions include:
- Movement: WALK, TROT, CANTER, GALLOP and, when trained, PRANCE.
- General: JOUST <player>.
- Tricks, when trained: KNEEL, STAND, BEG, SPIN and REAR.
- Warhorse combat commands for Paladin owners: RETREAT, CHARGE <player/creature> and ATTACK <player/creature>. Charge and attack also require a sufficiently strong bond.
Horse commands may fail when the horse lacks the necessary training, is prone or sitting, is dead, stunned, webbed or immobilized, or has not recovered from its previous command.
