Alteration Guidelines for Alfar Warriors (Guardian Spirit)

What your design should specify:

  • adjective: the word that immediately precedes "alfar warrior" (limit of 9 characters)
  • appearance ("tap"): the full name of the warrior as seen in the room text (limit of 80 characters, including spaces -- no commas)
  • description ("look"): what people see if they type DESCRIBE WARRIOR (limit of 500 characters, including spaces and punctuation)
  • name: the name your warrior will give if asked (limit of 16 letters, no spaces)

Design Guidelines for Guardian Spirit:

  • It cannot be named after a player character or NPC. All naming policies with regard to OOC, vulgarity, etc., apply. See: https://www.play.net/dr/info/whatsinaname.asp
  • It must remain an "alfar warrior."
  • The description must be written entirely in the third person. (Avoid the use of you/your.)
  • The gender cannot be explicitly specified. For pronouns, use "it" or "its," not gendered pronouns.
  • The warrior's gear is hard-coded and cannot be altered.
  • Because the gear is hard-coded (and/or may be swapped out by players), avoid describing weapons or armor.
  • References that are out of character or out of genre will not be permitted.
  • If your description includes clothing or jewelry, and you wish to include rare materials, you must provide them in an appropriate amount. (You don't have to describe clothing or jewelry; this is optional.)

As with feature alterations:

  • You cannot add extra body parts to the warrior or otherwise fundamentally alter how the species looks. (Warriors have two arms, two legs, two eyes, and a vestigial pair of feathery wings. See below for official descriptions.)
  • You cannot include features that are vulgar or sexually suggestive.
  • You cannot give your alfar magical properties, such as emitting light.
  • Avoid describing facial expressions, movement, or sound. (These aspects of its appearance would always be in flux, not permanently fixed in time.)
  • You cannot dictate the feelings or reactions of others. (Show, don't tell. Let other players decide how their characters would react to your warrior.)

Stock summon description (as a general reference for how this species looks): An alfar warrior is tall and fair of face, with clear eyes and white skin that gleams like ceramic. Its features are all sharp angles, with oblique cat-slitted eyes that survey its surroundings with an untouchable serenity. Its pointed ears sweep upward, accentuating the eagle-like hauteur of its mien. Its lips are tinted blue, the color of a bruise, and are set in a grim line. Flat black clasps gather its colorless hair, binding it into a severe, warlike queue that brushes its waist. Thin and attenuated, though with a wiry strength, this warrior of the alfar is not obviously male or female.

Anatomy chart: Small vestigial wings sprout from the alfar, their seeming softness at odds with the creature's hard-looking, gleaming white skin. Otherwise resembling a thin, hairless Gnome, the alfar stares coolly from the page, one outstretched hand grasping a massive, pitch-black blade as delicately as a musical instrument. The creature's immense, night-black eyes seem to follow the viewer no matter how the page is oriented.
