Description

The dyrachis is a six-legged burrowing beast about the size of a yak. When it feels threatened, it can inflate air sacs beneath its skin to display its long sharp quills glistening with poison -- and then use that air to fire the quills with great force.

The spiny dyrachis is a six-legged beast about the size of a yak. The creature's feet are wide, each of its three toes splayed, and it stands on the page in a stubborn, immovable posture. The dyrachis' head resembles a cross between a bull and a sheep, though its mien is mulish and cantankerous. The author notes that when it feels threatened, the dyrachis can inflate air sacs beneath its skin to raise its long, sharp, poisoned quills -- and then use that air to fire the quills at its foes with great force.
