Description: | The Nissa's Binding spell is the only legacy the Empath Guild has of Lanival's companion, Nissa. Though it is thought that this spell was originally meant to be a type of anaesthesia, modern empaths have discovered other uses for it. When cast, this pattern will soothe the life essences around you and plunge them into a slumber. Those with great fortitude may resist this effect. As with most applications of this nature, Nissa's Binding is useless against the undead. | |

Commentary
Nissa's Binding has given rise to a rat's nest of consent issues. Many players consider casting the spell a belligerant act, and Empaths have suffered both in-character retaliation and Gamemaster-issued Warnings for using the spell on players.
From an Empath's perspective, since Empaths are severely restricted from engaging in violence, Nissa's Binding is the only even moderately effective tool available in a conflict. Contrary to the above statement, it has been GM-endorsed according to policy as a legitimate recourse for Empaths in a consented conflict. The warnings that were issued in the past were the result of GM confusion on the applicability of the spell in conflict situations.
All that being said, however, like any action in the game, under the right circumstances it can give consent as well.
