The world of Elanthia has its own system of time. We have day and night, sunrise and sunset, and the days and seasons pass as in the real world. However, we measure time on a different scale, so we have a unique calendar of years, months, days, hours and minutes for keeping track as well. Here are some of the basics to get you started:
Time (Anlas, Hour, Minute, Second)
Elanthia | Earth |
---|---|
1 Roisan | 1 Minute |
1 Anlas | 30 Minutes |
2 Anlaen | 1 hour |
12 anlaen (1 andu/day) | 6 hours |
4 andaen (1 week) | 24 hours |
10 weeks (1 month) | 10 days |
10 months (1 year) | 100 days |
The Elanthian day consists of 12 anlaen (6 real hours), beginning and ending at midnight. There are no timezones, so presumably the Dragon's Realms are small enough to make this a moot consideration (on the other hand, Elanthia might be flat).
Minutes
Elanthian minutes are known as Roisan, plural being Roisaen.
Anlasaen
People sometimes refer to "anlasaen" (usually shortened to anlaen) as "hours", but an anlas is actually half an hour long. Some old systems (such as repair shops) use Real Life time (minutes and hours), but this is normally Out Of Character. There are 12 anlasaen in a day, each one having a name.
- Anduwen (midnight)
- Starwatch (2:00am)
- Asketi's Hunt (4:00am)
- Berengaria's Touch (6:00am)
- Hodierna's Blessing (8:00am)
- Peri'el's Watch (10:00am)
- Dergati's Bane (noon)
- Firulf's Flame (2:00pm)
- Tamsine's Toil (4:00pm)
- Meraud's Cloak (6:00pm)
- Phelim's Vigil (8:00pm)
- Revelfae (10:00pm)
Telling Time
Starting out as a new adventurer, you will realize that you can only get a vague reckoning of the time. This improves with skill, but it's up to you to find out how.
Many Elanthians do not have access to timepieces, and so they tell time based on the position of the Sun/Moon. Other places use items such as sundials, orlogs (windable clocks), bells, or anlas candles to mark the time.
Kermorian Calendar (Year, Month, Week, Day)
Elanthia | Earth |

1 Andu | 6 hours |
1 Week | 1 day |
1 Month | 10 days |
1 Year | 100 days |

Second | 1 | ||||||
Roisan | 60 | 1 | |||||
Anlas | 1,800 | 30 | 1 | ||||
Andu | 21,600 | 360 | 12 | 1 | |||
Week | 86,400 | 1,440 | 48 | 4 | 1 | ||
Month | 864,000 | 14,400 | 480 | 40 | 10 | 1 | |
Year | 8,640,000 | 144,000 | 4,800 | 400 | 100 | 10 | 1 |
Days
"Andu" is High Gamgweth for "day", but because 1 Earth day is 4 Elanthian days the common translation is "week".
Weeks
Four andaen make up an Elanthian week. There are ten weeks in an Elanthian month, each named for one of the Immortals.
- Kertandu
- Hodandu
- Evandu
- Truffandu
- Havrandu
- Elandu
- Chandu
- Glythandu
- Faenandu
- Tamsandu
Months
We have ten months in a year, each forty days long. The months are divided into ten weeks of four days each. Thus, each game month contains forty(40) days.
- Akroeg the Ram
- Ka'len the Sea Drake
- Lirisa the Archer
- Shorka the Cobra
- Uthmor the Sky Giant
- Arhat the Fire Lion
- Moliko the Balance
- Skullcleaver the Dwarven Axe
- Dolefaren the Brigantine
- Nissa the Maiden
Years
The years run in a continuous cycle of seven names and are numbered with regards to an important event of Elanthian history, the Victory of Lanival. You can read more about him in the local libraries.
- 0. Year of the Silver Unicorn (Victory of Lanival)
- 1. Year of the Bronze Wyvern
- 2. Year of the Golden Panther
- 3. Year of the Amber Phoenix
- 4. Year of the Iron Toad
- 5. Year of the Emerald Dolphin
- 6. Year of the Crystal Snow Hare
Alaudian/Gorbesh Calendar (Year, Month, Week, Day)
The Gorbesh Calendar, sometimes called the Alaudian Calendar after the Founder of the Empire, is based upon the worship of the Gorbesh Gods. Because astrology and prophecy are such important concepts within the religious views of this people, the calendar is also closely tied to that.
-Albinas Dinelt, Iyqaromos Gnome, author of The Gorbesh Calendar
Days
There are 400 days in the Gorbesh Calendar.
Weeks
No mention of week divisions, but presumably the same number as the Kemorian calendar.
Months
No mention of month divisions, but presumably the same number as the Kemorian calendar.
Years
The Gorbesh have different names for the planets of our solar system.

Prime Years
The first year of the cycle, Xosedas - Osec, is always a time of great importance and consequence. Expensive, year-long festivals are hosted, the greatest war campaigns are begun, new buildings or cities are started, and new monuments to people of importance (generals, emperors, priests, gods) are raised. Also, the people are most devout at this time.
Death Years
The last year of the cycle, Sidasas - Kneisa, is a time of reflection and remembrance of everything that's happened in the past cycle as we salute the new age. The Skalds write epic scrolls recording the events and people, immortalizing them for all time.
