Alright, I did some digging. Check this out:

Eventually, Dzree was defeated, marking the Victory of Lanival.

Taken from Jadewater Mansion.
It's funny how this is described as the Victory of Lanival even though Lanival had, according to the stories, been taking a big nap for years. Thoughts? --Basselope 01:53, 21 October 2007 (CDT)

Maybe we should start referring to the calendar as It has been 388 years, 246 days since the Victory of Sithsia the Mad Mage. ;) I just posted on the Talk to Simu general discussions. Let's see what pops up. --Kraelyst 12:55, 21 October 2007 (CDT)

When that timeline was given out at Simucon 2000, I believe, Cadaya did address this point. While years are listed as "since the victory of Lanival the Redeemer," the years counted are since the fall of the Dragon's Empire; this is intentional, explained as an error in history by the developers of the calendar in the aftermath of the Dragon's Empire, or something to that extent. While some scholars later discovered the discrepancy, the system had been in use for some time and changing the nomenclature served no real purpose.

Doesn't the BV/AV split denote the defeat of the Dragon Priests under Dzree? --Basselope 01:08, 19 October 2007 (CDT)

According to the Elanthian Timeline it appears you are correct. However, as far as I can tell Lanival was not involved in that conflict and all references I've ever seen to AV indicate the calender is based on the Victory of Lanival, including when you type TIME in the game: It has been 388 years, 246 days since the Victory of Lanival the Redeemer. And at the end of several books like Book:MRlgFOM: by Lorethew Gealeranendae, in the 18th Year of Lanival's Victory
