Similar to [[bagpipe]]s, the cornemuse consists of only a single reed, closed at one end and slotted. The height of the reed can vary for the type of sound range one wishes to convey, although all cornemuses fall into the contra-alto to tenor range. Chanters on this instrument are normally made of bone, but wood is often used, while the bag is almost always traditionally made of leather, although a heavy fabric can be used. |
