[MAMAS Company, Main Office]
Raw wood and sawdust litter the floor of the Assay Office, and scaffolding, loose timbers, planks, and tools lie everywhere. Amidst the noise of hammers and saws, an assay clerk stands impassively behind a tin-topped counter. You also see a log door, a sign, a large map mounted on the wall and some balance scales.
Sign
Welcome to the Merchant Adventurers' Mapping, Assay, and Survey Company! We will soon serve all your mining needs. In the meantime, you are invited to use our scales for a token payment of one bronze coin of the province. Just put the item to be weighed on the counter, and our courteous staff will assist you. MAMAS Company thanks you!
Large map
The large map, handsomely mounted, is covered with curved lines, little squiggles, dots and dashes and bright-colored patches; you assume they must mean something to the Dwarves.
A large map reads:
Chuchurkreck Shup Chekmany Traanibenick. Someone has added in pencil, "where did this guy learn to draw?"
Counter
The stout wooden counter, topped with a metal surface, separates the waiting room from the assay office itself.
Scales:
All three scales, small, medium, and large, are simple yet accurate balance-beam scales with pans at each end of a rocker arm.
