Game Helpfile

The HURL verb allows you to hurl items and is primarily used in combat.

Syntax:
HURL - will default to the creature currently being faced
HURL <ITEM> AT <TARGET>

Usage

HURL is the slowest, most damaging and most accurate of the three basic thrown attacks. Each step up from LOB to THROW to HURL is worth roughly 25% more damage and accuracy, at the cost of one to two seconds of additional roundtime.[1] LOB is the quickest and least accurate, and has the higher theoretical damage per second of the two, but misses too often to be worth it outside of niche situations.[2]

HURL also lodges the weapon in its target far more reliably than the other two. It lodges whenever the attack does damage, for every weapon type including pure blunts, and a glancing hit that does no damage will not lodge.[3][4] THROW lodges based on the weapon's puncture damage instead,[5] and LOB does not lodge at all. A bonded weapon can be called back with INVOKE BOND even when it has lodged.

The accuracy advantage is relative to the other thrown maneuvers, not to combat generally. Against an opponent with comparable defenses at missile range, HURL is still inaccurate, and it performs better at pole or melee range or when the target is stanced to parry.[6] Weapons not designed for throwing can be hurled, but suffer accuracy and damage penalties. A weapon must be held, and object targets are normally rejected.
