Parry
Defensive combat maneuver that adjusts your positioning to enhance your ability to parry with your weapon, at the expense of your ability to dodge or block with a shield. The state lasts until you perform another attack or maneuver.
PARRY

You see: You move into a position to parry.
  [You're solidly balanced]
  Roundtime: 3 sec.

The PARRY command is one of the three defensive maneuvers, alongside DODGE and BLOCK. It shifts your defensive positioning toward parrying with your weapon, at a small cost to your chances to evade or block. The state lasts until another attack or combat maneuver is performed.

Because parry is barely fatiguing and balance neutral, it is also useful for bringing balance back up after a botched combo, or after falling or being knocked down.

Game Helpfile

The PARRY commands will increase your chances to parry attacks slightly, at a small cost to both your chance to evade or block attacks.

Detailed Information

Parry is a defensive maneuver.
Parry tends to be a barely fatiguing maneuver.
Parry tends to be balance neutral.
Parry is a quick maneuver.
Parry slightly bonuses the appropriate defense, but slightly penalizes the others.

Parrying Attacks

Parrying is the ability to block an incoming melee blow with your weapon. It is governed by the Parry Ability skill and happens automatically; the PARRY command only biases how much of your defense goes into it.

Attacker sees:

< Moving as one fluid extension of power, you step backward and then slice at Meantermel. Meantermel beats off the sword with a scimitar.
[You're nimbly balanced and have slight advantage.]
[Roundtime 3 sec.]

Defender sees:

* Rantjur steps backward and then slices at you. You beat off the sword with a scimitar.
[You're solidly balanced and opponent has slight advantage.]

Parrying Ranged Attacks

Paladins and Barbarians can parry a ranged attack against them, provided they are at melee range with their attacker.

Ranged attacker sees:

You attempt to fire at Meantermel with your hunter's longbow!
Meantermel skillfully shoves the hunter's longbow aside with her scimitar causing the basilisk head arrow to misfire into the ground.

Defender sees:

Rantjur attempts to fire at you with his hunter's longbow!
You skillfully shove the hunter's longbow aside with your scimitar causing the basilisk head arrow to misfire into the ground.
