Thrumgrin will customize stone totems created via Carving, turning them into Dwarven style steles. Added on 2/20/2026 with Fun-Day Fridays #80.

Description

You see Thrumgrin Skowt, a Dwarf. He has deep-set ale-brown eyes, with pewter-rimmed glasses and thick platinum hair. He has weathered skin, broad shoulders and a sturdy build, indicative of years of hard labor. He is average height for a Dwarf and is ancient. He has a thick bushy mustache that droops heavily on his upper lip and a lush beard twisted into three long braids.

He is holding a stone-carving chisel in his left hand. He is wearing a crusty bark-hide leather apron over a simple linen shirt and sturdy trousers, all well-worn from years of use. Heavy, leather boots cover his feet, and an ebony leather tool belt hangs around his waist, filled with various carving tools and small pouches likely containing supplies.

Study

You've overheard others asking Thrumgrin about a number of topics, including place, season, partner, profession, goal, number, animal, location, shape, type1, type2, choose, orders, stele, example, finish, and status.

Ask Thrumgrin about Stele

Thrumgrin explains, "Totem steles are a Dwarven custom that symbolize the six aspects emblematic of an individual's life. These are: first, the core of the person second, the birthplace and season third, the profession fourth, the heart fifth, achievements and goals and sixth, the person's animal guardian. Consider reading, "The Pillars of Forfedhdar" by Baldar Skowt, in the Hibarnhvidar Library for more information."

Ask Thrumgrin about Example

Thrumgrin shows you a sandstone stele that is masterfully-crafted. The stele displays a carving of a male Dwarf standing upon a mountain slumbering in cool shade next to a female Dwarf. He is holding a stone-carving chisel. Below, there is a scene of the Dwarf gazing upon the perfect sculpting of a masterwork. The carvings are crowned by six manifestations of owls.

Thrumgrin glances at your <totem> and shrugs. "I don't know, I work with so many, I seem to have forgotten where we were. What were you after again?"

Once you have started:

Thrumgrin peers at the <totem> and flips through the pages of his notes. "Ah yes, here we are..."

Thrumgrin exclaims, "And that's all we've discussed thus far. As a reminder -- while my form has many questions that we must resolve, the final product may not use all of your selections."

Ask Thrum about Finish

If you have not set all the necessary options:

Thrumgrin shakes his head. "We haven't yet discussed <next option>, so I can't proceed with the design. Please choose an option first."

Once you have picked all the options:

Thrumgrin states in a slightly less stoic manner, "This looks good, sir! I would be honored to create it." He holds up a sketch for review:

      Short: an/ancestral/stele
       Long: a <material> ancestral stele depicting a <gender> <Race> holding a <profession depiction>
Description: <varies>

Thrumgrin says, "If you find this to your liking, just ask me again to finish it up. It will cost 200000 Dokoras to make these modifications, which I'll accept when you confirm."
Thrumgrin pauses before adding, "All customizations are final -- I cannot refine such delicate pieces once they've been agreed upon and the work completed!"
Roundtime: 4 sec.

After asking again to confirm:

You hand Thrumgrin the coins.
Thrumgrin takes a <totem> from you and sets to work on it. Pieces of <material> drop as Thrumgrin works on carving, turning your <totem> into an epic stele. In virtually no time, Thrumgrin nods and hands your ancestral stele back, afterwards grabbing a flask from his apron and taking a well-deserved swig. As he cleans up his work, Thrumgrin suddenly grows serious and reverentially says, "Honor this, and may your descendants be proud of your life and goals whenever they gaze upon it."
