"What is the Price of Destiny?"<br/>
<br/>
"Shard was a city born not once, but twice."<br/>
<br/>
So begins the tale of Silvyrlock the Wanderer. Rich in history, a city of sparkling beauty and dark secrets, the tale of Shard is long and storied. In the year 375 however, another chapter was written. The Outcasts, a desert dwelling people who claimed Shard as their birthright, have taken the city and now rule from inside its crystalline walls.<br/>
<br/>
Displaced from their ancestral home, they dwelled for years in the inhospitable deserts of the north, awaiting the coming of the one that was prophesied to lead them back to the land of their ancestors.<br/>
<br/>
The Ferdahl has fallen, the Elothean people are scattered, and an uneasy truce is in place. The Outcast's prophesied king, Raenilar, now rules from the throne atop the Great Tower. Is this indeed a third rebirth for the city of Shard? Only time will tell.

Antoc clears his throat and says, "We are gathered here on this day, the 85th day of year 376, to facilitate an accord among the provinces and the occupying government of Ilithi. Please remain silent as dignitaries are announced and escorted in."

Antoc unlatches and opens his leather journal and pushes his spectacles up the bridge of his nose as he reads,"Representing the Outcast government..."
The roiling fog of war no longer blankets the lands of Elanthia. From high atop the Great Tower of Shard Raenilar, the Warrior King of the Outcasts, gazes out over the shining city that he as claimed as home for his people. Invoked in blood, he has fulfilled a centuries-old prophecy which has led his people back to their ancestral lands. After months of vicious fighting and heavy losses on all sides, the leaders of the other three Provinces joined Queen Morganae of the Mountain Elves to meet with the interloper. On the edge of a charred battlefield south of the fair city of Leth Deriel an uneasy truce was forged.

"Warrior King Raenilar Celendron,
In accordance with the treaty, the heir to the throne of Zoluren was returned (albeit through questionable means). The goblin Grishnok was brought north as a prisoner to face his crimes against the people of Elanthia. King Raenilar dissolved his alliance with the notorious Red Sash, distancing himself and his people from the sordid lot of mercenaries that had served to torment the villages and towns of Elanthia these long bloody months. In return for these concessions the provinces of Zoluren, Therengia, Qi'Reshalia and Queen Morganae all agreed to recognize King Raenilar as ruler of the city of Shard. Wax the color of blood now bears the seals that have removed the Elothean people from the city they called home.
Yhaman,
Koromas Urthil,
Mairdaen - Keeper of history,
Varinocae Lidh."

Their people scattered, their ruler executed, their city taken ... the Three step into their preordained roles to help heal the Elothean people. They have moved north and east in order to rebuild their society and select a new Ferdahl. King Raenilar's former allies have faded into the background, though recent murmurs in the darkest recesses of taverns and dockyards abound with rumors of foul deeds and continued unrest. Trade between the provinces has resumed, though not without difficulties. Bandits have become numerous along the Southern Trade Route, infusing the once peaceful countryside with a distinct and lethal element of danger.

Warrior King Raenilar's group came in from one side..
There is talk of rebellion in the province of Ilithi ...

Antoc turns a page of his journal and raises an eyebrow, saying, "Representing the Outcast allies..."

Votary Wyren Si'drow."

Wyren waves at someone, who knows, maybe at everyone, as they enter together.

Antoc casually observes the area, and turns another page, "Introducing the Mountain Elf contingent..."
The Northern Alliance pushes hard alongside their Ilithic brethren and by Day 53, Warrior King Raenilar pushes back. Moving his forces northward he appears to have turned his eye toward the southern precincts of Zoluren. After heroic efforts, he is stopped at the Gondola and can go no further. The Outcasts dig in and set up barricades.

"Queen Morganae Sunderstone,
The Outcast Yhaman leads a patrol even further northward; he strikes at Leth Deriel in a lightning supply raid. Meanwhile the ravishing Pirate Kendyll turns her eye to Zoluren, her Pirates attack Arthe Dale, Crossing and even Leth Deriel for some late night pillaging.
Prince Fayne Sunderstone,
Lady Eluresturi Ynaen'almura,
Captain Herrick Iocaste,
Envoy Getalva Suiashin."

Prince Fayne escorts the members of the Mountain Elves group in.
Guildleaders Tolle of the Rangers and Macfrae of the Bards join the fight against the Outcasts, pitching in along side Prince Vorclaf and Baron Gyfford. Tolle even manages to give Raenilar a taste of his bow, an indication that perhaps he is not invincible after all.

Antoc turns a page of his journal and calls, "Representing the Zoluren-Therengian alliance..."
May 17th, 2004

"His Majesty, Vorclaf Lasa'Sorvendig - Prince of Zoluren,
The Northern Alliance of Zoluren and Therengia mobilizes their forces and marches on Ilithi. Securing the Southern Trade Route and the north side of the chasm, they focus their efforts on breaching the Outcast defenses in occupied territory by Day 48. The tiny enclave known as Fayrin's Rest becomes a haven and a battlefield alternately as the battle fluctuates around them. The Warrior King Raenilar himself leads forces into the fray to meet them, his awesome fighting ability leading him once more to victory and questions as to whether or not he can be stopped.
His Grace, Gyfford Theren - Baron of Therengia,
Lady Edenlaen Farrenlaore - Khalo of the Empath Guild,
Captain Shaheyra Kawhn of the Royal Guard,
Commander Bilgrath Sharcoris of the Therengian Infantry,
Captain Owaen Bannistre of the Zoluren Cavalry."

Prince Vorclaf's group follows.
The Necromancer Velmix, Jomay and Captain Jourok are observed discussing plans surrounding the use of the Goblin Grishnok. While transformation is mentioned, it is unclear as to purpose or even victim. The Goblin himself remains conspicuously absent and even his forces lay low. Jomay and Velmix are also witnessed discussing further attempts on Prince Vorclaf, increasing the security measures around him.

Antoc turns a page of his journal, "Representing the Horse clan of Ilithi..."
The remnants of Ilithi pull themselves together and Commander Kirew is promoted to General, taking command of the ragged Ilithi forces and moving to coordinate their dwindled resources. Meanwhile Prince Vorclaf and Baron Gyfford setting in and around Fayrin's Rest, making camp and planning their next moves.

"Chieftain Ruinyk Ganela'shyrel."

Antoc says, "Representing the former Shard government..."
The Ogre Chieftain Naarg marshaled his dwindling forces and launched another assault on Wolf Clan around Day 43. They are held at bay by the western defenses and are left gnashing their rotted teeth in frustration. A schooner sweeps into Acenamacra, unloading Pirates bound for Leth Deriel. It is quickly sunk and the assortment of tars is decimated before they can even leave the beach.

Antoc recites:
Prince Vorclaf and Baron Gyfford lead their combined forces southward, engaging the Outcasts is southern Zoluren in a fierce battle. Meanwhile the Mountain Elves launch an attack on them from the south, separating their forces and causing heavy damage. During the melee, the rogue Barbarian Raellia attempted a surprise attack on the Zoluren militia. With maniacal glee she confronted Zoluren's Captain of the Guard, proclaiming her no challenge. In a lethally efficient response Captain Shaheyra killed Raellia and had her corpse transported to Ulf"Hara Keep. Once restored, she now rests in Zoluren custody, languishing in the dungeons to await the Prince's justice.

"Kulainik Emaylian,
Meanwhile reinforcements to the Northern Alliance arrive as Rathan forces commit to the battle. The hardy folk of M'Riss throw their lot in as well, and forces arrive in Leth Deriel to speed south in answer to Prince Vorclaf's call for aid. Later, during a break in the fighting, the Necromancer Velmix manages to place a curse upon Vorclaf. Fortunately those in attendance of him realized it and acted swiftly, managing to break it and remove it before he was possessed. His Majesty is being monitored at all times for fear of another attempt.
General Kirew Deruhanae."

Antoc closes his journal and looks forward. "These negotiations are hereby called to order." With that, he bows.
May 15th, 2004

Kirew surveys the assmebly, looking down his nose arrogantly. Vorclaf sits down on the chair. Raenilar folds his arms across his chest. Shaheyra moves behind Vorclaf's left shoulder, hands loosely clasped behind her back. Morganae takes a seat, nodding very slightly to her entourage. Fayne holds the chair for Queen Morganae, then sits, too. Herrick stands near Morganae. Jomay casually observes the area and sits down. Wyren takes a seat near Jomay. Bilgrath moves to stand behind Gyfford's left side. Eluresturi takes a stance at Fayne's shoulder. Yhaman stands near Raenilar. Koromas stands near Raenilar. Getalva moves to stand beside Eluresturi, folding his arms loosely behind his back.
The elusive Queen Morganae makes an appearance, holding court with Prince Fayne, the Lady Eluresturi and Getalva on Day 40. After consideration and certainly for her own unfathomable reasons, she offers her aid in the fight against the Outcasts. She sends Getalva to Prince Vorclaf as a messenger, informing him of casting their lot with the Northern Alliance.

Jomay says to Kirew, "Oh do sit down." He did not take her up on that invitation.
Bloody fighting continues throughout Ilithi as the militia hammers relentlessly at the occupying forces. The Outcasts fortify their positions further, erecting metal gates and barricades that are exceptionally difficult to damage. The Outcast Yhaman becomes the target of multiple attacks, in retaliation the Opreina Moracul is made a vicious example of and executed.

Kulainik regards the standing Raenilar, facing him across the table.
May 14th, 2004

Vorclaf asks Raenilar, "Are you waiting for an invitation to be seated, or do you wish to conquer it first?"
Outrage over the Ferdahl's death resonates across the land, Prince Vorclaf himself vows to avenge her death. On Day 36 he names Ambassador Lindryl as interim Royal Steward of Zoluren and mobilizes the militia for the march south to reclaim Ilithi. Zoluren Guildleaders - Darius of the Paladins, Annael of the Empaths, Silvyrfrost of the Bards and Gauthus of the Warrior Mages, join His Majesty's forces and head to meet the Outcasts. They are joined in Leth Deriel by none other than Baron Gyfford Theren himself, along with the Therengian army.

Raenilar says, "It appears to present more of a threat than you do, Prince Vorclaf, and therefore I give it more consideration first."
During their preparations, a Red Sash schooner sails into Acenamacra to launch an attack. Quick thinking and valiant effort on the part of the Secret's crew quickly show the pirates the shortest route beneath the waves, sinking it. Reports reach the Northern Alliance that Paladin Guildleader Snow is seen scouting the Outcast's defenses, eliciting a cheer of appreciation from travel weary throats.

Gyfford says, "We will cede tha chair please sit."
The Outcasts rally swiftly and move north to meet the oncoming forces; the two armies collide south of Leth Deriel in an epic battle that ravages the lands of the Southern Trade Route. During the fighting, an attempt on Prince Vorclaf's life is prevented by the Opreina Moracul Zoranyl. He dies while protecting the Prince and before he can be aided, the Outcasts capture him, taking him south behind enemy lines before he can be recovered.

Yhaman grins at Koromas.
As the exhaustive battle rages on long into the night, it seemed the Outcasts might win the day and open a hole right into Zoluren. However all was not lost. In a scene reminiscent of fables and bedtime stories, the Mountain Elves arrive to assist the Northern Alliance. The ever-capricious Queen Morganae commits her forces to the battle and Prince Fayne arrives, leading an army of Mountain Elves to engage the Outcasts. The scale swung once more toward a balance as her forces appeared to be well matched to the desert warriors. The brutal fighting continued well into the next day, with Morganae's assistance the Outcasts were finally beaten back after taking heavy losses.

Raenilar asks, "Do you wish to dispense with the petty insults, then?"
Word arrives from the south that Commander Kirew himself has been rescued and evacuated from the city. The Ilithi forces celebrate and rally around one they thought lost, preparing for the next battle to reclaim their beloved city.

Vorclaf says, "I'm sure a defenseless chair is to your liking, King. Something that doesn't fight back and will shape to your will."
May 13th, 2004

Gyfford shifts his weight.
After a temporary lull in the fighting, a flurry of activity is seen in and around the Outcast encampment. Votary Wyren gated the captive Ferdahl back into her former city, taking her directly the Great Tower and before the Warrior King Raenilar himself. Also in attendance were Captain Jourok and Jomay - oddly enough there was no sign of the Goblin Grishnok. With firm resolve and no interest or evidence of remorse, the culmination of six hundred and fifty years rested on the tip of the unusual blade in Raenilar's hand. She met his gaze without flinching, defiant to the last. His strike was swift and sure and she sank to the ground without a cry, mocking him even in death. Her eyes closed on her beloved city as the brutal assassination took the favor with her Gods along with her life. As the brilliant comet streaked across the sky, the collective voice of a people wailed in mourning and disbelief. The air was soon heavy with the palpable grief, causing a sense of unease as the enemy's alliance members feel the tension and begin perhaps to question the deed.

Shaheyra flicks her gaze briefly at Vorclaf before looking ahead once more.
On the 32nd day of the 1st month of Akroeg the Ram, in the year of the Emerald Dolphin (376) - the Ferdahl of Shard and leader of the Elothean people, Lady Kukalakai Alec'i'neir, is dead.

Gyfford nods to Bilgrath.
May 12th, 2004

Morganae remains seated, still and silent, her stance hinting at patient indulgence.
As Ilithi bears the weight of occupation, to their north the Zoluren militia struggles tirelessly. With grim determination they fight on, the dead and exhausted dragged from the fields. The screaming of twisted metal and the cracking of crude timber reward their efforts as the towers and barricades begin to fall, unable to withstand the relentless attacks of the militia. By Day 29 both Arthe Dale and Dirge stand as free Zoluren once more, the last of the invaders being driven off like the curs they are.

Raenilar says, "A simple 'no' would have sufficed. While you may not be interested in being brief, I've no interest in wasting more breath than necessary on this. And so I will spare you all the history lesson; though in regards to certain people present, perhaps it would make better autobiographical material."
Prince Vorclaf met with a delegation sent from Ilithi to discuss the current situation and what could be done. He pledged Zoluren's assistance to her ally, ordering troops to prepare for a march on Ilithi. Commander Kirew was sighted in Shard, working tirelessly to locate Protectorate Viirin, to no avail. She is presumed alive, but in hiding. There is no indication of her whereabouts though Ilithi holds out hope for her survival.

Morganae's head turns to regard Raenilar with distant appraisal.
May 11th, 2004

Mairdaen shifts very slightly, his gaze sweeping the room with alert interest.
As the harried Ilithi militia retreats to safe ground to regroup and plot their course of action, more of the Outcast allies arrive in droves, their work done elsewhere. The Goblin Grishnok and Jomay throw their forces against the militia all along the routes outside the city, while the Outcasts work to strengthen their hold on the city by erecting metal barricades and patrolling the desolate streets by Day 23.

Raenilar says, "Shard has fallen. With some small resistance near Fayrin's Rest that we have allowed to remain while securing our own positions, so has much of Illithi. We also presently hold land north of the gondola, and our forces have engaged at least a few times even to the north of Leth Deriel."
Intelligence reports monitoring the enemy's actions come in; they mention that in conjunction with Jomay, the Necromancer Velmix was remotely witnessed engaging in some obscure ritual. It involved the death of the Goblin Grishnok, it is unclear as to why or if he was even willing. The end result was the Goblin's heart was removed and set ablaze as some bizarre type of sacrifice. Scholars even now are hard at work trying to decipher their machinations.

Raenilar says, "You have something I require, Prince Vorclaf, and you have constantly chosen to place yourself in front of the guilt of the Three, for actions in the past, and for their choices of utter inaction."
With a fierce resolve the Zoluren militia slowly breaks the chokehold on their western front. One by one the barricades and towers fall, with Naarg's forces being whittled down in the process. Wolf Clan is finally freed and Zoluren forces battle on through the night and the next day in order to free Tiger Clan as well, driving the straggling forces back to their rocky homes.

Raenilar says, "They must face judgement, if any of us here wish to stop further bloodshed. You do not want this war on your keep's doorstep, Prince. Wars fought on your own land are little better for morale than foreign ones." Raenilar gazes at Gyfford.
May 10th, 2004

Gyfford fixes Raenilar with a frank, even stare.
The forces of the Goblin Grishnok and the Ogre Chieftain Naarg combined their forces for a collective assault on the Western front of Crossing, marching on the quiet outpost known as Wolf Clan on Day 20. The Goblin Prince Tnok, true to his earlier word, sent a regiment of a thousand goblins to aid Zoluren. This unexpected ally crushed the first wave of ogres beneath its collective feet. Despite the early gains, the combined forces proved to be too much for our newest ally. While Naarg's forces took heavy losses as a result of Tnok's aid, they eventually overwhelmed the Goblin allies and were able to secure Wolf Clan, erecting a siege tower to strengthen their hold. Prince Tnok himself was seen struck down, his helpless body dragged through one of Votary Wyren's moongates by none other than Grishnok himself. His fate remains unknown.

Vorclaf says, "I have nothing you require, King Raenilar, with the exception of a gallows. You invade Shard. You invade Zoluren, but yet you can not conquer and control both."
Regrouping, the enemy then moved relentlessly eastward, descending on the haven known as Tiger Clan, who could offer little resistance. The Clan was taken and another tower erected, tightening their grip on Zoluren's west. From here they launched wave after wave upon the Zoluren defenders, the grasslands becoming a quagmire of blood and debris as the militia gamely worked to keep them from the city gates. Schooners swept into Arthe bay, offloading a full regiment of Red Sash. The Sea Devil itself offloaded a bunch of building supplies. The Pirates ransacked the hamlet without mercy and quickly secured the harbor. They then moved to take the entire town of Arthe Dale, erecting no less than three towers. While the eastern front struggled to meet this threat, Jomay's Orcs launched an assault from the north, moving swiftly down the Northern Trade Route. Zoluren's resources by now were stretched thin, nigh unto breaking as they scrambled to match each new threat on their lands.

Vorclaf says, "I have sworn my life to protect the Three, and that is non-negotiable."
In a superlative display of coordination, Therengia was crippled from sending any aid south by attacks on both Riverhaven and Therenborough. Prince Saeward launched a heavy assault on Therenborough, barricading the city and throwing the strength of his Gypsies at the stalwart militia. Meanwhile schooners attacked Riverhaven, at least one of which was sunk before it could retreat. Despite the active defenses, at least one schooner managed to make it to port, dropping a regiment of pirates for the embattled city to contend with. If that were not enough, Wyren made certain to send some Goblin forces to Riverhaven as well, managing to supply them with significant reinforcements.

Fayne raises an eyebrow.
During the ensuing chaos, the remaining Outcast forces suddenly appeared to be acting with purpose. Demonstrating their tactical advantage by the multi-provincial assaults, they organized rapidly and were gated south to Leth Deriel by Wyren, along with the remaining allied troops in Dirge. Almost as if on cue, the missing Reaver sailed boldly into Acenamacra, where the remaining Outcast reinforcements swiftly disembarked and regrouped on shore with their eyes turned south. Yhaman himself organizes the forces and after a brief march, they are gated southward, once more by Wyren, arriving in Ilithi and on the borders of Shard itself.

Raenilar raises an eyebrow.
With a swiftness born of vengeance the Outcasts move to the gates of Shard, surrounding the city. Despite the most valiant efforts of the Ilithi militia and what allies could assist, the fair city was breached late into the night on Day 21. With some very quick thinking and a tremendous display of skill, the citizens manage to evacuate at least two members of the Elothean "Three" to the relative safety of Zoluren. Prince Vorclaf was quick to offer them refuge and what security he could. The Ferdahl, loathe to leave her city or her people, was finally moved to Horse Clan. The Warrior King Raenilar was not one to give up easily, not with the prize within his grasp. Her defenders managed to stay one step of his efforts for a time, but eventually she was captured and carried off the Outcast Camp.

Gyfford says, "As have I."
The Outcasts allies arrived in droves, hampering the militia at every turn. The grisly fighting lasted throughout the night; until it was clear that without aid, there was little more they could do besides sacrifice themselves. A blood red sun rose over an occupied Shard ... the shining city had been taken.

Bilgrath shakes his head at Gyfford.
May 9th, 2004

Jomay turns sharply facing Vorclaf with a piercing glare.
One could call Day 14 the "Day of the Goblin" as Zoluren seemed rife with them. Goblin troops engaged Zoluren forces heavily at both the Northeast and East gates of Crossing in a bloody display of base savagery. After an exhaustive battle which forced them back into the wilds, the enigmatic Goblin Prince Tnok approached Zoluren with an offer of assistance, offering his own Goblin troops to aid the resistance against Grishnok's and Naarg's forces. Before the sun had set, Prince Tnok himself had been struck down - his attacker or attackers unknown.

Kirew's hands rest lightly on his swordbelt and his eyes never leave Raenilar's face.
To the south across the mountains, Prince Fayne of the Mountain Elves also met his fate, twice in swift succession. The cause of his demise was unable to be determined, though rumors have trickled out that it was the result of a ... royal display of temper.

Vorclaf glances at Jomay, "Don't stare at me witch, I will strike that look off your face."
A red-sailed schooner slunk into Arthe Bay, docking very briefly. It set out again before its purpose could be determined and was engaged by the Leaping Dolphin, where the naval forces sunk it with practiced ease.

Wyren places his face in his hand and slowly shakes his head.
In what can only be classified as a conclave of evil, Votary Wyren, the Goblin Grishnok, Captain Jourok, Velmix and Jomay were all spotted together, meeting in a heavily guarded location. Intelligence reports warn the citizens and militia to be on their highest alert, as there were talks of a major offensive in three to four andu, targets undetermined

Kulainik asks Raenilar, "You speak in half truths, and old rage clothes your words. You say you wish to avenge an old wrong, and yet you only repeat it. Is there no wisdom in your people to temper anger with reason?"
May 8th, 2004

Raenilar fixes Kulainik with a serene, lofty stare.
Zoluren forces rallied by Day 12 and mounted a retaliatory strike on the Dirge Fort. They were repelled with some significant effort by the Fort's residents, only after being bolstered by squads of Outcasts who were ordered into the fray. Meanwhile Jomay and Velmix were overheard having an obscure conversation regarding some type of "transformation." The details are inadequate as to their nefarious designs, but point to their working together toward a common goal.

Vorclaf says to Raenilar, "You appear distracted, on many fronts. Stay focussed on our discussion."
The Goblin Grishnok dispatched a division of his troops; they were seen exiting the Fort numbering around a thousand all tolled. The Zoluren militia was lying in wait for them, cutting down at least two full units before they could do any significant damage. The bulk of the forces showed no interest in engaging the militia however, and with some effort vanished into the rocky hills surrounding Stone Clan.

Vorclaf says, "You can not have the Three. You have murdered in cold blood once, you will not do so again."
May 7th, 2004

Raenilar angrily says to Vorclaf, "Then you would do well to silence your associates while they raise such 'unfocused' matters. Tho I realize you have such little control over your allies, at least in battle." Raenilar looks thoughtfully at Vorclaf.
Day 8 saw heavy activity in and around Acenamacra. Numerous caravans and trade vessels were sighted, the heavy traffic at the pier raised a lot of suspicion, but no attacks or arrests were made. Viceroy Egolan and Jomay were sighted traveling together in southern Zoluren. Before they could be followed, they disappeared deep into the surrounding forests, giving no indication of their purpose or destination.

Kirew glances at Vorclaf, rage flaring across his face and as quickly suppressed.
The hamlet of Kaerna was the focus of some unusual attention. An Orc squad was spotted rapidly fleeing the area after a minor attack on the town's gates. The damage to the gates was negligible, leaving witnesses curious as to the purpose of the assault.

Raenilar says, "I seem to recall stories of a certain head sitting upon a certain pike in your lands. 'Cold blood' indeed."
May 6th, 2004

Vorclaf leans back and smiles softly.
A new year arrives with little break in the hostilities. On the 2nd day of the 1st month of Akroeg the Ram in the year of the Emerald Dolphin (376) the Outcasts are seen persevering at replenishing their supplies in as they try to recoup their losses and regroup. The Outcast Warrior Yhaman himself led raiding parties in hard strikes against the sylvan enclave of Leth Deriel, demonstrating a taste for the Elven weaponry and food supplies.

Gyfford says, "Maybe you should learn from that." Gyfford glances at Raenilar.
The beleaguered city of Dirge resembles a skeleton picked clean by scavengers; their meager stores having been completely stripped and the shops closed down while the occupying forces continue a relentless assault. The Northern Trade Route became a treacherous thoroughfare as scores of Orcs and Adan'f battled with Zoluren up and down its length - the exhausted militia gamely holding its own while beating the enemy back to their own frontlines.

Vorclaf says, "We are not here to debate my actions, no matter how justified they were. The table is to discuss your invasion of Zoluren and Shard."
May 5th, 2004

Morganae turns her head very slightly, beckoning to her Captain. As he bends to her she murmurs very quietly to him, one hand gesturing with idly about the room.
The heavily bloodied Day 400 brings cause for much celebration as one by one, the sieges are broken and the occupied territories freed. On the western Zoluren front Wolf Clan and Tiger Clan are littered with the rubble of shattered barricades and the debris of Naarg's fleeing forces. With the militia beyond exhausted, the push on through the night and finally free the city of Arthe Dale - driving the Pirates into the sea and demolishing the last of the structures. In a desperate maneuver, the Pirates tried to mimic their southern counterparts and barricade the city of Riverhaven. However the battle-savvy citizens managed to destroy their efforts and maintain the port and city as free.

Jomay says, "Lets get to the point dearie. We demand Arthe Dale and the outer clans."
The forces garrisoned at the Dirge fort are suspiciously quiet, the Outcasts seemingly unwilling to venture forth any interest in the fights for Zoluren and Therengia. Perhaps they do not wish to detract from their purpose or weaken themselves further, yet lie in wait as provisions arrive.

Mairdaen glances at Jomay with undisguised revulsion.
May 4th, 2004

Vorclaf turns his head and blinks slowly at Jomay, saying to her, "And who are you? Other than some ancient hag."
The rustic clearings of Wolf Clan are converted to trampled battlefields as Ogre Chieftain Naarg reinforces his holdings, sending more troops and fortifying the barricades by Day 396. Arthe Dale squirms in the savage grasp of its attackers, working to shrug off its barricades as the militia grits its teeth and fights tirelessly to free it for Zoluren.

Yhaman says to Jomay, "Hold your tongue till required to speak."
Goblin forces bypass Crossing completely and push through Leth Deriel, raiding the shops at every opportunity. The morose city of Dirge seems even more so as it bears the weight of a continued siege, the occupying army slowly sucking it devoid of any sustenance. Just to the north the Pirate hit Riverhaven again, seeking a strong vantage point and place for supplies. They're no longer facing green defenses however; the militia handily dispatches them back to where they came from.

Wyren clears his throat.
During the resulting melees there is a stroke of luck, the Pirate Jourok is captured and rapidly moved deep within the confines of Throne City. For a time it looked like there may have been an end to his gibbering and brutal attacks, but it was not to be. Both Grishnok and Wyren moved swiftly to rescue the sorry tar, with the Votary having the advantage at being recently captured there himself.

Jomay fixes Yhaman with a serene, lofty stare.
May 3rd, 2004

Edenlaen gazes coldly at Jomay.
The Votary Wyren spends a busy day manipulating his moonbeams as he works to support the non-stop raids on Arthe Dale by Day 394. Systematic attacks on the barricades result in little damage as the reinforcements repair them at the first break in the fighting. Orcs and Pirates strike the city in wave after wave, each drawing the militia away from the barricades in order to defend the city.

Jomay says to Yhaman, "We were promised many things, do not tell me to hold my tongue."
The city of Leth Deriel is hit for supplies as well, though rather than coming through Acenamacra Wyren gates Goblin units directly into the city in a lightning raid. Meanwhile Velmix, Jourok and Grishnok are all spotted up around Dirge - their combined forces raiding the remaining Dirge stores. The Goblin doesn't stay in one place however, and sends his forces to support the Ogres as Naarg strikes Wolf Clan again and secures it with fortified barricades.

Koromas shudders.
From across the ocean there is no word as to the fate of Zoluren's heir.

Getalva says, "Perhaps we would do well to avoid the insults where possible. On all sides."
May 2nd, 2004

Jomay says to Edenlaen, "And you, don't even try to show your lack of fear to me. I 'know' you."
With ferocious tenacity, the Zoluren militia ripped the western Clans from Naarg's grip by Day 390. Reclaiming both Wolf and Tiger Clan, they oust the Ogre's forces back into his mountainous home. Arthe Dale groans under the weight of its oppressors, remaining under heavy siege as it is systematically raided for supplies. A surge of defenders manages to destroy one of the towers at the Arthe Dale docks, bolstering the morale of the militia as they work to reclaim the small town.

Wyren places his face in his hand and slowly shakes his head.
The Reaver is spotted on open seas, moving toward the mainland.

Edenlaen smiles blandly at Jomay.
May 1st, 2004

Yhaman growls ferociously.
In the bitter cold of Day 384 Zoluren saw some of the heaviest fighting in recent weeks. Ogre Chieftain Naarg marched the largest force seen to date across the western grasslands of Zoluren. They were halted before breaching the West Gate of Crossing and began to make short work of the western front. Naarg's forces erected sturdy barricades and fortified his holding with a siege tower, securing the grasslands for his use. Meanwhile scores of Goblins and Ogres swarmed into Wolf Clan and Tiger Clan, capturing them quickly and erecting outposts.

Gyfford says, "A king that can not control his allies has no allies just rabble.."
The picturesque hamlet of Arthe Dale was battered once more, proving that any access to open waters leaves a vulnerability to be exploited. Schooners raced through the choppy waters of the Bay to swiftly offload troops and provisions at the docks. They immediately moved to block off the road to the port, fortifying it with a tower and men. The network of enemies proves strong as Jomay's Orcs, working in collusion with the Pirate forces, march into Arthe Dale. They erect barricades that stall the offenders as they proceed to pillage the city, stripping it of provisions that are then taken to the waiting schooners.

Yhaman inhales a great swallow of air.
With Naarg and Jomay working with the Pirates to the south of them, the Goblin Grishnok and Votary Wyren set their goal as reclaiming the already trampled city of Dirge. The heavy fighting served its purposes as the fort was taken with no resistance. Meanwhile the Goblin's army of Adan'f and Mammoths moved into the town itself, securing the city proper. A new fortress gate was swiftly erected as they set up shop in Dirge once more.

Bilgrath quietly says to Gyfford, "Touche'."
Prince Saeward lashed out at Riverhaven again, hitting the city from the north. He was supported by Wyren, who used his Dirge base to gate reinforcements into the Haven attacks. While the cities are being raided for supplies, yet another Trader is arrested for arms smuggling, demonstrating a growing internal problem as greed supplants loyalty. Ilithi is not immune to these strikes, as Viceroy Yhaman of the Outcasts is spotted hitting Steel Claw Clan. Meeting almost no resistance he raids the weapons stores and the Trader's Guild. With his fresh success he takes the time to move on Fayrin's Rest as well, leaving the Shard outskirts reeling.

Vorclaf remains focussed on Raenilar. "Now, shall we continue?"
The most disturbing news comes not from the fighters at the fronts, but from the travelers from the north. A large contingency of Outcast forces, numbering a few thousand fresh soldiers, moves out from Muspar'i. With a single-minded purpose they make no stops or engage in any skirmishing. In short order they move via moongate, first to Riverhaven then down to the newly reclaimed Dirge outpost. There they appear to be making final preparations for another large move.

Jomay loudly exclaims, "I will not be ignored!"
April 30th, 2004

Wyren quietly asks Jomay, "Perhaps... shut up?"
Day 380 and a relative calm has fallen over the mainland as Goblin hordes and Pirate thugs seem to take their ease for a change. There is a small commotion in Zoluren as a local Trader is arrested for smuggling provisions south to the Outcasts. His caravans were confiscated and he was placed in the dungeon to await His Majesty's decision regarding his fate.

Raenilar says to Gyfford, "Well spoken, given several assaults on our present holdings after my speaking with the Prince's ambassador."
The Dawnsinger, bristling with mercenaries and moving at a furious clip, was spotted chasing down a schooner that had been captured by a ZEF patrol. While the schooner's inventory had not been taken, it must have been of some significance. The Pirates managed to board it and eventually sink it with all hands on board. There were no survivors.

Gyfford says, "Not by my people."
April 29th, 2004

Eluresturi's hands clench at her sides but she remains silent at Fayne's back, only her eyes moving from face to face.
The embattled region around Dirge sees more activity around Day 376 as Grishnok is spotted lurking around the area with some of his Adan'f forces. Jomay's Orcs make a march on the city of Crossing, sending a few waves of attack without seeming purpose other than to tire the defenders of the teeming city.

Raenilar says to Jomay, "Your role will not be forgotten, Jomay. But your demand has been heard, and there is more to be said." He turns back to Gyfford, "Indeed. I did not say that it was."
During the melee, a schooner is sighted off the coast of Leth Deriel, but it vanishes quickly, before it can be identified. From the merchants in Zoluren comes an unusual report - a marked increase across the province of weapons sales.

Getalva leans over to speak quietly with Eluresturi.
April 28th, 2004

Raenilar says to Vorclaf, "And you asked who she was."
The Pirate Captain Aedem is overheard arguing with an Outcast Leader on Day 373, confirming that The Reaver was indeed a transport ship and not all the Outcasts were decimated in Ilithi. Meanwhile up north Prince Saeward reemerged from the depths of Ker'Leor, assaulting the city of Riverhaven with murderous intent the night before last. The tide was quickly turned on him however and it was only with the skillful, albeit risky help of Wyren was he able to escape his pursuers.

Jomay says to Raenilar, "Of course, dearie, of course."
A schooner slips into the Arthe Bay, managing to offload even more Red Sash troops before making a hasty departure. They work swiftly to block off the port in Arthe Dale, invading the small town with ferocity and engaging the Zoluren forces heavily. With the defenses distracted, Jomay's Orcs and Mammoths launch an offensive on Dirge, retaking the fort. However Zoluren is unwilling to give up the smallest parcel of land to these miscreants and musters a vicious response, causing Grishnok, Jourok and Wyren to all join the battle against the tenacious defenders. Their efforts were to no avail and they were driven like sheep from the Dirge Fortress.

Raenilar says, "For the important point, she is a reason we are hosting these talks here, and not further south. To put more of a point on it, she is a reason why the majority of your forces must remain in Zoluren."
The Ogre Chieftain Naarg slipped his forces toward Tiger Clan, erecting a barricading and blocking the small hamlet off for his own uses. Crossing's western defenses would hear none of it however and battered the Ogre's brood of henchmen throughout the day until they fled back across the grasslands and the Clan was reclaimed.

Herrick says, "She is a creature that needs putting down and quickly."
April 27th, 2004

Fayne glances at Morganae.
The Pirate Jourok and Votary Wyren were spotted aboard a schooner on Day 368. They arrived in Acenamacra and offloaded a bevy of Red Sash troops. Oddly enough rather than join them, they boarded the schooner and rapidly left. Apparently on a mission versus a pleasure cruise, they were overheard talking about the missing ship, The Reaver. Having taken serious damage during the fighting at sea, it had put in for repairs. There is speculation on whether or not there are Outcasts still aboard her, as well as if there are any of their sisters and brethren left to fight in the deserts.

Raenilar says, "Let us attempt some... simpler matters."
Viceroy Egolan, Koromas and Yhaman were all spotted at the encampment, having obviously survived the heavy fighting. They evinced some anger and frustration, but an overall sense of purpose - as if this were simply a minor setback versus the loss of the majority of their forces. Scores of wounded were being moved about the tents, their harsh cries ringing out from the distance as they were tended to.

Morganae says indulgently, "Now, now, my Captain. Would you refuse this one his toys? I hear no response to the Elothean's question, and so one must assume that, as children do, he lacks restraint and lacks fully formed reason."
April 26th, 2004

Herrick bows to Morganae, "As you say my queen."
In the wee hours of Day 364, a schooner arrived at Acenamacra under the cover of darkness. Offloading its troops and supplies to the unguarded pier, a gleeful Wyren launches an attack into Crossing, causing the defenses to scramble into action to repel him. The Zoluren Cavalry has since doubled its efforts and the hapless Votary remains one of the most sought after villains.

Morganae's gaze rests coolly on Raenilar.
Beyond that the lands catch their breath in the relative quiet, the mainland and island alike slowly coming to life with some sense of normalcy as they try to make repairs on people and property alike. Scouts continue to return without information of the hidden encampment, however the wilds of Ilithi are vast and difficult to scour.

Vorclaf leans back and asks Raenilar, "Do I need to wait 600 years to hear them?"
April 25th, 2004

Gyfford asks, "Perhaps we can return to the simple matters?"
The morning sun moves through the sky on Day 359, illuminating a field of carnage. In what was surely a stunning defeat, the bodies of thousands of Outcasts litter the ground before departing at the feet of Ilithi's defenses, led by Aurica Tearchild, an Elothean Warrior Mage of incredible skill. The desert storm that threatened to explode into life over Shard dissipates like a summer squall. The Warrior King Raenilar gathers the remnants of his forces and retreats to his encampment, the promise of vengeance riding heavily on the air.

Raenilar shrugs briefly to Vorclaf, and turns to Morganae. "Assume as you like, and accept the consequences of whatever conclusions it brings you to." He turns back to Vorclaf; Vorclaf seems to be waiting for him.
Despite the celebrations to the south, Zoluren is kept busy with its own troubles. Ogre Chieftain Naarg sends his forces against Crossing, once more hammering the Western defenses and assaulting anyone in their path. During some of his moongate shenanigans, Votary Wyren stumbles across the Zoluren Bard Guildleader, Silvyrfrost. Sensing his opportunity he attempts to affect her capture, failing miserably in his trademark style. Later Grishnok is spotted sneaking into the city of Crossing and is quickly chased off.

Morganae says encouragingly, "Indeed, the simple matters seem...best suited to the moment." Her gaze never wavers from Raenilar, and her voice holds more than a hint of contempt.
His Majesty, Prince Vorclaf of Zoluren, puts bounty on the Pirate Captain Aedem. He offers 1000 platinum kronars to those who would capture the nefarious pirate and bring him to Zoluren for justice. He also confirmed the intelligence reports that Grishnok was marshalling troops to march on the city of Crossing from three directions, in order to allow the citizens to best prepare their defenses.

Vorclaf glances at Morganae.
April 24th, 2004

Morganae says to Vorclaf, "Do proceed."
Bloody fighting continues to rage through Ilithi, with the Warrior King Raenilar's troops forming as close as the North Gate of the city by day 354. The exhausted Ilithi militia, bolstered by assistance from the other Provinces, refuses to relent. Unwilling to give up even the smallest concession, they fight until they drop. The fiercest fighters remain on point through the night, proving to the Outcasts that Ilithi is homeland to others as well, and they will not give in to their ancient claims. Raenilar's forces take heavy losses, unable to master terrain so foreign to them.

Raenilar says, "First, the city of Shard itself, then. We will not be forced out. And should the fate of the Three be decided, there is little reason for our presence in Zoluren. This war brings about little else."
The city of Riverhaven was assaulted from the water, getting hit hard as a schooner moved into the harbor. Docking at the pier, they offload troops of Red Sash Pirates before fleeing back out into open waters. A little further south, Zoluren intelligence confirms reports of a hidden Outcast encampment, though scouts have thus far been unable to locate its exact position. The Goblin Prince Tnok pays a visit to Zoluren, offering his aid, willing to send his troops to engage those serving Grishnok.

Vorclaf says to Raenilar, "So you agree that the Three shall not have any further bearing on these negotiations. And you further agree no actions will be taken by you to somehow 'mysteriously' make them disappear."
April 23rd, 2004

Raenilar says, "Not hardly. I merely assert that should we resolve their fate, there is otherwise little use for this war."
Day 350 and Ilithi mountains reverberate with the screams of warriors and the moans of the wounded and dying. The Outcasts consider their brutal assault, pushing hard to the south as they head for the city of Shard. Every ponderous step is met with incredibly fierce resistance and their fearsome countenance slips a little as their numbers begin to wan in the face of the ferocious defenders. Reports that they've hollowed out a hidden encampment and begun moving supplies in trickle up from the south.

Gyfford raises an eyebrow. "I had thought we were clear on them already. You may not have them."
The Surlaenian Council gives the Pirate Aedem an answer to his terms, a resounding "No!" that is echoed swiftly by the crushing defeat of the remaining pirate forces on their fair island. By the passing of Day 352 the Province of Qi is finally free. Remote bands of pirates are still ranging the deep interiors of Aesry, Ratha and M'Riss, but are no longer prepared to mount an onslaught.

Yhaman makes a grunting noise.
April 22nd, 2004

Raenilar smiles.
The howls of snowbeasts that usually echo through the Gash were drowned out by battle cries by Day 348. One has to wonder what these desert dwellers thought of the snowy wastelands of northern Ilithi; surely it cannot be what they bargained for. While Wyren launched an assault on Leth Deriel, effectively detracting any would be aid from the north; Warrior King Raenilar's forces gathered en masse near the chasm.

Eluresturi's attention shifts to Yhaman briefly.
In a surprising display of skill and with no small effort, Wyren managed to use his gating abilities to move Raenilar's forces into northern Ilithi with only minor casualties (namely himself). This was accomplished while defenders bound and determined to impede their progress if not halt it completely pummeled the Outcasts at every turn. Despite the military's efforts the Outcasts doggedly moved onward, regrouping in northern Ilithi.

Shaheyra leans forward slightly, murmuring to Vorclaf for a moment before resuming her position.
Meanwhile across the waters, the small island of M'Riss and its hardy inhabitants shrug off the last of the Pirates grip on their home. Destroying the last of the towers they drive the brigands off, forcing them to retreat back and turning the tides on them.

Raenilar says, "Then perhaps later, I shall not ask 'for' them, Baron. There are yet other possible fates."
April 21st, 2004

Yhaman grins at Eluresturi. Eluresturi bares her teeth at Yhaman, an expression which doesn't remotely resemble an answering grin.
The oceans off the coast of Leth Deriel were awash with blood, bodies and debris as the ZEF saw some of their fiercest fighting by Day 344, with heavy losses taken on both sides. The Talinak and the Lugpuur went to battle with Zoluren as the Dawnsinger, Ornery Wench and Black Star worked to deploy Outcasts and provisions in Acenamacra.

Vorclaf says, "The Three remain a protectorate of Zoluren. If that means they will reside there, then so be it. They will not be given up."
Unable to match the ZEF's skill, the Pirates could do little more than scramble like rats as the Talinak and the Lugpuur, were reduced to shattered bits of soggy kindling. They did not go quietly however, before the smoke cleared Zoluren's forces suffered a crushing blow as the Proud Nissa sank beneath the surface to her doom, courtesy of the Dawnsinger. Thankfully her crew was saved and will be able to rally and fight another day. As if our sodden defenders did not have enough to contend with, a hard strike on the Leaping Dolphin resulted in a stunning loss for Zoluren -- the current heir, young Lord Keresyk si'Allvar, was washed overboard. Before the ZEF could swing around and rescue him, he was spotted being fished from the stormy waters by none other than Captain Aedem himself and remains in the Pirate's custody.

Gyfford smiles at Raenilar.
With their confidence high and demonstrating their superiority on the high seas, they did not neglect to remind Qi that they still have a hold there. Captain Aedem posted his terms of occupation to the residents of Aesry in a move that looks more like extortion than for political gain. Demanding money, services and sovereignty for Shark Clan, it is unlikely he will be met with anything other than derision by the ferocious island defenders.

Raenilar asks, "You speak of Zoluren, or something a touch more subtle, Baron?"
A prolonged coordinated assault was launched against the inhabitants of the Dirge Fortress by a coalition of Zoluren and Therengian forces. Time became the enemy on both sides as the gates sustained heavy damage and were repaired as rapidly as the drones inside could do it. Fighting hard through the night and throughout Day 345, the exhausted military offensive finally proved successful as the inept Votary Wyren bolted like a rabbit driven from his hole moments before the fort fell. He was eventually found back in the region of Leth Deriel, having once more barely escaped with his life.

Jomay giggles.
Weeks of intolerable waiting draw to an end as the Outcasts return to the mainland. With the aid of their Pirate allies they land in droves in Leth Deriel. Driven by history and the Warrior King Raenilar, they shrug off Zoluren's forces and set their eyes directly south. The ground trembled all up and down the Southern Trade Route as the divisions marched inexorably south. They finally drew to a stop on the northern side of the area known as the Gash, making camp and working on provisions and rest -- obviously regrouping for their next offensive.

Wyren glances at Jomay.
April 20th, 2004

Gyfford says, "You are not stupid I presume..."
Cries of celebration echo through the tiers of Ratha as the embattled islanders finally shake off the Pirate's iron grip on their island by Day 340, the Red Sash will find no haven there. Aesry and M'Riss remain under siege, though if the Pirates thought this would be an easy task they are finding themselves choking on their own blood as they try to retain their footholds. Back on the mainland Riverhaven finds itself subjected to continued assaults. With Grishnok's return they've upped the ante as Wyren gated a company of Goblins into the beleaguered port city. Despite the renewed intensity of the offensive, the citizens were able to repel the invading hordes and keep claim to their homes. Wyren's moonbeams are now sought after like treasure, the crashing of sigils sound much like laughter in the face of his frustration.

Morganae makes a faintly amused sound.

Gyfford shrugs.
The Red Sash hit idyllic Arthe Dale hard from the bay. During the assault, Orcs were gated into the town, blocking access to various spots including the Trader outpost. While the defenses scrambled, Grishnok busied himself by raiding the Commodities Pit, completely wiping out the stores there. The security of the Crossing and Leth Deriel pits are now seriously in question. During the attack a scroll was found on the Leaping Dolphin, wrested from a dead Pirate. The scrawled writing carries news of the worst sort, the Red Sash is sailing for Zoluren in force and with it ... the entire Outcast army.

Vorclaf says to Raenilar, "To be blunt, the remainder of your tribes to the north."
The Ogre Chieftain Naarg himself led a large group of troops in an assault on Crossing's West Gate. The ferocity of it drove some of the defenders back; they breached the town and managed to block off areas for a short time, including the bank. However the Zoluren forces rallied swiftly and once more drove them back out of the city. More construction was seen inside the Dirge Fort, the gates have been fortified with metal and now bristles with archers at the ready. The rancid stench of burning oil roils down from cauldrons kept boiling atop the gates.

Raenilar says, "Indeed. But I wonder what the historians might say of such an ill-advised march into the wastelands for the Baron to undertake."
April 19th, 2004

Gyfford says with a shrug, "Your old ones your women your children..."
Thanks to the quick work of provincial engineers, the city of Crossing now boasts functioning battlements. From their new perches above the city's walls, Zoluren's defenders will be able to have a bird's-eye view as well as first shot and anyone looking to encroach upon the city. The militia was seen happily scaling the structures as they examined them for the best vantage points and locations to install siege weaponry. While the North Gate still remains in a state of disrepair, between this and the upgrades to the West and Northeast gates Zoluren has surely been granted a boon to its defenses. Despite these attempts at reinforcements, Naarg's forces managed to impinge upon the northwestern precincts of the city late in the afternoon on Day 335. Eventually driven from the city like unwanted curs, they remain a constant threat to Zoluren's western front.

Raenilar says, "Ah! The Paladin in you shines through, Baron. A sterling example, indeed."
Unfortunately, the enemy seems bent on fortifying their positions as well. There was a flurry of activity up at the Dirge Fortress as construction teams were seen working at fortifying the imposing fort gates. From safe inside this enclave, the highly sought after Votary continued to sporadically move troops into RiverHaven and down into Crossing. Even with his level of skill, he must be finding it more and more difficult to work, as all eyes are on him and the people band together to thwart all of his favorite ploys. His polite inquiries on the gweth are often met with derision and responses from such a wide myriad of locations that it must surely be more work for him to narrow down his targets. Though with a small measure of dismay, the Goblin Grishnok was spotted back on the mainland -- returning to the Dirge Fortress from his island holiday and thus making their threat all the worse. To the south, another schooner was caught lurking off the coast of Arthe Dale. With a minimum of fuss our own ZEF removed it of its ability to stay afloat and thus dispatched the threat before it could do any serious damage.

Mairdaen's gaze flickers rapidly from Gyfford to Vorclaf.
Meanwhile out on the islands their tenacity is being rewarded as they gain their homes back inch by agonizing inch. Voices made harsh from exhaustion cheer in celebration every time a tower falls in Ratha. Several more were destroyed through the night of Day 337, the Pirates are losing their toeholds on the rugged island. Over on the ringed jewel of Aesry, the fierce inhabitants have destroyed yet another of the reinforced barricades, much to the enemy's chagrin. More pirates arrived on the shores late into the day as the enemy was forced to call for reinforcements. Qi continues to hold its own, hopefully their dogged determination will see them victorious.

Gyfford says, "This baron will dare it."

Raenilar says, "Allow me to make it simple for you, then."
April 18th, 2004

Shaheyra steps back quietly, bowing slightly from the waist. At a distracted nod from Vorclaf she steps out of the room.
The brisk autumn winds filled the sails of the schooners that sailed against the mainland around Day 330. In a series of lightning-fast maneuvers, scores of Red Sash troops were offloaded to the docks, only to have the ships swing around and engage the naval forces. Both Zoluren and Therengia have cause to celebrate, having successfully sent a schooner apiece to watery graves with all hands onboard. Leth Deriel and RiverHaven were both struck hard by violent Pirate raids, eventually driving them from their shores handily.

Gyfford says, "You sir have no room to talk."
Crossing's western defenders enjoyed delivering a crushing defeat to Ogre Chieftain Naarg's troops today, they were barely able to reach the west brook before elite Zoluren forces decimated them. The Ogres seemed almost overwhelmed, and sadly presented little challenge for some of the Zolurenites engaging them. However with all eyes and resources turned to the west, Jomay's Orcs breached into the city proper via the North Gate. Meeting little resistance, they proceeded to rampage through most of the town before being routed by scrambling defenders.

Raenilar says, "Do so, and I will grant you a fate the late Ferdahl would have been pleased to have." Raenilar fixes Gyfford with a serene, lofty stare.
Embattled Ratha continues to dig itself out from under their Pirate oppressors, their fierce resistance slowly gaining them their home back one destroyed timber at a time. As the sun sets on Day 333, there are faint reports that Votary Wyren has moved squads of Grishnok's troops right into Crossing's Town Green ...

Gyfford says, "You may try sir. As the bonfires burn." He smile right at Raenilar.
In what can only be described as a moonbeam melee, Zoluren's defenders try to ward off Wyren's attempts as best they could. Using his own strategy against him, citizens cried out when they felt a sense of unease as he tried to locate their whereabouts -- after which his beams were tracked down and destroyed as sigil after sigil crashed to the ground. Like hounds to the scent they chased the mad fox about the city, preventing untold loss of life. Then came the stunning report from the north, Wyren had been captured and was unconscious in Throne City! The wily Votary was soon on his feet however, leading his would-be captors through the dark recesses of the ancient city. The air was fraught with tension and for a short time he was bereft of moons, his capture and a victory seemed imminent. Then Katamba rose, its unfathomable darkness almost ironic as Wyren swiftly harnessed it to make his escape, diving back into the safety of his fortress.

Getalva murmurs, "Posturing. Words." He shakes his head with a light sigh.
April 17th, 2004

Fayne leans over respectfully and whispers a few hushed tones to Morganae.
Having brutally ripped their provisions from the belly of Qi, the fleet sails on for Aesry. The Outcast armies freely aided the ill-reputed Captain Aedem of the Red Sash as they spearheaded a brutal assault on the docks, his forces spreading out behind them to breach the inner ring of this island sanctuary. The Warrior King Raenilar through his thoughts conversed openly with Aedem, reminding him that their "debt" would soon be paid in full. While never disclosing what that might entail, their voracious forays into the islands leaves little doubt that they are what hang in the balance. Having not had their fill on the steps of Aesry, they then moved swiftly over to Ratha. Despite the vicious tenacity of the islanders, enemy forces, bolstered by the Outcast armies, secure the first three tiers of Ratha by Day 328

Yhaman dryly says to Raenilar, "Aman, his people would probably perish in the deserts without assistance from our peoples. Heed his words none."
Votary Wyren continued to aid in the persistent haranguing of RiverHaven, utilizing his skills to mobilize troops into their vicinity. Despite his continued efforts, the city remains free and has withstood all advances since being reclaimed by Therengia.

Gyfford says, "Conceed the Three and I will turn from what I am urged to do." Gyfford smiles at Yhaman. Gyfford says, "My border lords know your desert. Fret not." and Gyfford leans back.
April 16th, 2004

Vorclaf says to Raenilar, "You see? Your cycle of vengence is not yours alone to covet."
M'Riss remains held in an iron vise by the Pirate hordes as Day 325 draws to a close, its residents battling valiantly to try and rout the marauding Sash. Turning their eyes to the shining tiers of Ratha, they arrived in force and tested the island's defenses throughout the day. Not only was Grishnok spotted, but the vile Pirate Jourok led the fray alongside the nefarious Bretari. Wicked skirmishes led from the blood-soaked beaches up into the tiers as the city was pillaged and barricaded at the enemy's whim.

Raenilar says, "On this, I shall listen to Yhaman, tho his words rarely are ones appropriate for these discussions. Baron, I politely invite you to follow into the desert until your heart is content." Raenilar pointedly ignores Gyfford.
The mainland saw its share of action as enemy forces continued to harry the various Clans with swift and violent raids. The battle-weary city of RiverHaven held off numerous raids as more attempts were made on this once peaceful harbor town.

Gyfford says, "On your head sir be those deaths."
April 16th, 2004

Yhaman nods to Gyfford.
It is now the 3rd day of the 9th month of Dolefaren the Brigantine, Day 323 in the year of the Iron Toad (375), thirty-two days into some of the most exhaustive fighting Elanthia has ever seen.

Gyfford shrugs.
With M'Riss secure, the Pirate Jourok was spotted setting a new course ... back towards Ratha.

Yhaman says to Gyfford, "And when you return, perhaps my cullings will be to your liking."
April 15th, 2004

Gyfford fixes Yhaman with a frank, even stare.
After days of bloody fighting, by the time night falls on Day 320 the fair jewel of Ratha has been snatched back from the claws of the Red Sash - the Pirate scum driven from the shores in droves. Unfortunately they found another fruit ripe for the plucking, regrouping their forces they moved rapidly toward the smaller island of M'Riss, taking the island by force in a swift and barbarous assault. The battles waged were exceptionally brutal as the Pirates met an unexpected level of resistance from a small community of highly skilled defenders. The Pirate Captain Jourok actually met with the 13 after a run-in with the island's own Captain Jafe, however the Goblin Grishnok was swift in his retribution. During the fierce fighting the Outcasts alleged Viceroy Egolan was struck down while trying to assist Jourok; enraged Outcasts go on a rampage as a result - decimating the island.

Wyren quietly says to Jomay, "I really don't like the desert."
Back on the mainland Votary Wyren is kept busy in the transportation business, masterfully gating assorted troops assembled from Grishnok's Jomay's and Naarg's respective forces to the front lines of RiverHaven. Quick-thinking citizens begin to anticipate his actions after careful and constant observation of the Dirge Fortress. A few well-placed sigils thwart any number of Wyren's attempts to wreak more havoc.

Gyfford leans back and whispers to Bilgrath.
April 14th, 2004

Raenilar says to Vorclaf, "You'd do well to follow my advice earlier, and silence your own 'allies' if you wish any progress."
Day 318 and harried islanders continue to scramble to reclaim their beloved Ratha with a series of fierce battles that stretches out over the course of days. With no intention of leaving their land in the clutching grasp of the Red Sash the citizens wage a constant war to recoup what is theirs, the normally peaceful streets echoing with the valiant cries of the defenders.

Bilgrath nods to Gyfford, "It will be done." Gyfford nods to Bilgrath.
Ogre Chieftain Naarg marches out from his western stronghold once more, threatening the precincts outside of Crossing's West Gate. In a tense standoff lasting several anlaen, his forces block off Wolf Clan and were determinedly driven back up into the stark hillsides of their home.

Vorclaf says to Raenilar, "We are getting nowhere. Demonstrate your nobility by releasing the Three from any further harm and we can proceed further. And as for the Baron, he has his own will and strength, as do the people of Ilithi, and that will not be silenced."
Throughout the day Votary Wyren, operating from a fortress in Dirge, used his abilities to further the enemy's causes by assisting their forces with a series of Moongates to tactical locations. The brave citizens of Therengia entrenched themselves even further in the defense of their harbor city as Wyren kept placing fresh troops from Grishnok, Jomay and even Naarg's forces virtually on their front steps. If they thought they would own RiverHaven once more however, they were sadly mistaken as they confronted the full brunt of Haven's defenders.

Gyfford smiles at Vorclaf.
April 13, 2004

Jomay says to Vorclaf, "They will cower in fear and be silenced. I have seen empires rise and fall, yours is nothing compared to those great times."
The dawn of Day 314 heralds a free RiverHaven. Having been forced eastward by the harrying ZEF, the Outcasts and their Pirate companions put into the Pirate Haven to restock and repair their ships. Once completed, they emerge once more and launch a surprise attack on Ratha.

Vorclaf turns to Jomay and says, "Stuff it."
Outcast forces spearheaded the attack, quickly taking over the Uaro and Neh docks before the citizens could rally to their defense. The Pirates forces establish at least three outposts, effectively cutting the islanders off from the docks.

Raenilar says, "I believe 'nobility' has firmly thrown itself through the door." Raenilar glances at Gyfford.
Having turned Ratha over to the Red Sash, the Outcast forces withdraw to their ships, preparing to depart. The island of Ratha has suffered heavy losses, while the rest of Qi scrambles for its defenses. The mainland continues to get harried by attacks in both Therengia and Zoluren as Grishnok and Jomay use Wyren to facilitate their troops' movements.

Wyren places his face in his hand and slowly shakes his head.
A coordinated assault by Naarg's, Grishnok's and Jomay's forces assault the city of Crossing, perhaps 2 anlaen before Ratha is hit. Naarg's forces fail to reach the West Gate, while Grishnok's Adan'f and Cyclops are met and successfully held at bay at the NorthEast Gate. Jomay's forces however, encountered little resistance and entered the city, at one time cutting off the Cleric Guild from the rest of the city and causing much mayhem before finally being routed by Zoluren's staunchest defenders.

Eluresturi hisses to Jomay, "Be silent, you mad creature. Honorless, faithless, empty of spirit and heart, be still."
And thus the sun rises on Day 316 ... Elanthia waits for the next move.

Wyren looks around for the nearest exit.
April 12, 2004

Raenilar says, "Apparently, we have both chosen some poor allies." He smiles at Vorclaf.
Apparently using the Dirge fortress as a base of operations, the city of RiverHaven is attacked once more as enemy forces are relayed north via Moongate, in a belated attempt to reinforce what few barricades remained standing. Ultimately they were destroyed and the city's full control returned once more to its own citizens by Day 310. The city continues to be subject to sporadic attacks, some heavy at times -- tying up the majority of Therengia's defenses. Chieftain Naarg marched once more on Crossing's West Gate down in Zoluren, briefly entering the city before being driven back like whelps.

Kulainik says to Raenilar, "You are strong, there is no denying this. You may even have the favor of some dark and angry god to speed your way. But you are no king, only a hunger and a spite. Until you learn what it is to rule, and that it means to serve as well as to command, you will be no more than the most vicious dog in a pack of curs."
During the melee, the region of Leth Deriel was attacked by Pirates in a focused attempt to reach the city. The Pirates were aided by Orcs, acting in league with one another to free the Pirate Magnoona from her prison within the city. The combined Cavalry Units of Zoluren operated in tandem with allies from Shard and the Infantry to drive all enemy forces from the fabled Elven stronghold. While they lost the prisoner, they certainly won the day for Zoluren and her allies.

Kulainik fixes Raenilar with a calm, clear stare.
April 11, 2004

Edenlaen smiles at Eluresturi.
The occupation of RiverHaven continues through day 304. The harbour becomes a busy thoroughfare as ships rotate into the docks, are loaded to the brim with men and supplies, then depart. The last of the Outcast forces depart aboard the Talinak and Black Star, leaving small units behind to oversee the Orcs and Goblins now controlling the barricades.

Vorclaf asks Raenilar, "Oh I have confidence in mine. I put my lives in the hands of Zoluren, Ilithi and Therengia. Can you say the same for yours?"
Immediately after the primary withdrawal, General Amlach leads the Baron's forces against the occupying forces in a tremendous display of leadership, taking down the northernmost barricade and allowing defenders to breach the city. Bloody fighting continues well into the next day as the last of the invaders is killed and the city itself is reclaimed by joyous Therengians.

Gyfford smiles, "And the gypsy part of your plan rots in my prison."
Meanwhile out on the high seas, the outbound Outcasts are detoured by a run-in with the ZEF -- who pitch several battles against the heavily armed schooners, thwarting their movements and driving them from the mainland routes towards Qi.

Wyren turns to Raenilar and gives a wide grin.
April 10, 2004

Raenilar nods to Wyren.
By Day 300 the attacks in Zoluren have intensified, with waves of Ogres and Goblins striking from the west as Orcs travel the Northern Trade Route. The last of the barricades in Langenfirth are destroyed by the Theren defenders. The known Pirate ships The Black Star and The Ornery Wench sail into RiverHaven's harbour, followed scant hours later by the Talinak and Reaver. There is a flurry of activity as the Outcast armies appear to be preparing to set sail with their Pirate comrades. Scattered skirmishing continues, but does not deter the Outcasts from provisioning the ships and other preparations. A majority of the forces board the Pirate ships in anticipation of departure, while a couple thousand continue to patrol the city and oversee the supplies.

Bilgrath snorts, loudly and nods to Gyfford.
In desperate attempts to help with fortifications, the town gates are upgraded and reinforced in both the small town of Kaerna and its southern neighbor Arthe Dale. Siege weaponry to be used as defense is hastily deployed in both Crossing and south in Shard.

Jomay says to Wyren, "Yes dearie, you are good boy."
April 9, 2004

Raenilar says, "You might say that, Prince. And your zealous Baron may wish to realize who else sits in whose prisons. Some are ... far more dear to us than... others."
Day 295 and the embattled citizens of Therengia valiantly reclaim Langenfirth, driving the Gypsies out with the aid of King Talorc, who dispatches Saeward and retreats with the Gypsies further into Ker'Leor. There are sporadic attacks on occupied RiverHaven as the Outcasts' defenses are tested, most are repulsed easily while evacuations continue. The Zoluren Navy battles with a schooner in Arthe Bay, driving off the encroaching pirates. Zoluren's forces are prevented from assisting Therengia full-scale as they are forced to contend with attacks from the west by Ogre Chieftain Naarg as well as the Pirates in Arthe Dale proper. They were assisted by the miscreant Grishnok and his motley assortment of Cyclops, Adan'f and Goblins, along with Jomay and the horde of Orcs at her command.

Gyfford says, "Be glad your viceroy doesn't sit in my prison."

Raenilar says to Ruinyk, "It is good, then, that we have came here for both."

Vorclaf asks Raenilar, "And your Viceroy has been treated with respect and dignity even in the dungeons. Can you say the same for Zoranyl?"

Ruinyk says to Raenilar, "There cannot be both. You fight those who, themselves, did nothing to you, and offered to right those wrongs committed by their ancestors."

Yhaman grunts at Ruinyk.

Gyfford says, "Yes let us speak of a lack of nobility..when we speak of how you have treated him."

Wyren furrows his brow. Wyren quietly asks Jomay, "What is he talking about?"

Yhaman asks Ruinyk, "What, her offer of us living under her thumb?" Yhaman makes a grunting noise.

Vorclaf glances at Yhaman.

Jomay says to Wyren, "Nothing, be silent."

Raenilar turns to Kulainik. "And you. You, who preach so elegantly of leadership. Follower of leaders that do not know justice. Follower of leaders that would stand upon the graves of ancestors forced from the land so they could have what they wished. Follower of leaders that would do nothing to right this wrong, until its righting was forced upon them. Follower of leaders that has brought you to ... what?"

Ruinyk says to Yhaman, "And so you killed her, rather than talk, rather than see if something could be arranged."

Kirew glances at Yhaman, saying harshly, "You speak without knowledge, for you never paused to hear her words. Say what you will now, but those of us who witnessed remember the truth of the matter."

Gyfford says, "Explain to your ally Wyren....tell him what you think fair treatment is." Gyfford fixes Jomay with a frank, even stare.

Kulainik says to Raenilar, "I say again - you speak half a truth, and you made no attempt to learn the rest."

Vorclaf says to Raenilar, "I believe you underestimate many things, King Raenilar." Vorclaf stands up, "First, you underestimate the resolve of the Ilithi people."

Kulainik says to Raenilar, "I say again - you speak half a truth, and you made no attempt to learn the rest."

Ruinyk says, "Was it? No, she would not give up Shard, but would she have allowed you to remain within the borders of Ilithi? Would she have attempted to set land aside for all of you to live outside of the desert? She may have. I think she would have, but you killed her."

Vorclaf says, "Secondly, you underestimate the strong alliances we have formed. Theregia, my good friend the Baron," he smiles at Gyfford. "Ilithi, even what remains of their force." Vorclaf smiles at Kulainik with those words, and continues, "And let us not forget Qi. Yes... Qi. Strong warriors, who have driven your forces and those of the red sash of their islands."

Vorclaf asks, "Can you say, then when you are in a position of need, that anyone will answer your call?" Vorclaf glances at Raenilar. "Even occupied, Qi did not hesitate to come to aid when I gave word."

Morganae yawns delicately, and says in a soft, disinterested voice, "Come, gentlemen, cease this posturing. Begin to come to an accord, or....perhaps you wish me to watch as you eat each other alive, and leave none standing after you?"

Kirew glances at Morganae.

Vorclaf asks, "Can you say that your witch here..." He glance with Jomay with amusement. "Will come and aid you in -your- time of need? And yes, even our new allies in the Mountain Elves. Vorclaf bows respectfully to Morganae.

Getalva gives an ironic bow.

Vorclaf turns to face Raenilar. "Can you say, that your allies will stand with you?"

Eluresturi eyes flash to Morganae's face very swiftly, anger readily apparent before she lowers her gaze cautiously.

Yhaman folds his arms across his chest.

A shimmering mirror of shadows appears momentarily in the air above, briefly revealing Osur's face.

Vorclaf says to Raenilar, "I suggest to you this. Release the Three from your 'blood oath' and we can proceed further."

Gyfford nods.

Fayne glances at Raenilar.

Raenilar asks, "They have, and they will. Take care your words, Prince, and your bowing to your 'allies' of the Mountain Elves so soon after they idly offer to consume your lands as well. Take care you not overestimate your own position, or do you truly wish to learn who must experience their 'time of need' earliest?"

Gyfford says, "I will stop my border lords from planing this minute," then he adds, "If the Three are no longer on the table that is."

Kulainik glances up sharply as the last shadow mirror shimmers breifly.

Wyren expresses a sigh of relief at not having to go to the deserts and glances at Vorclaf and Raenilar in turn.

Raenilar says, "I will make no such offer, Prince Vorclaf."

Gyfford says, "You have gained much king do not let being single minded blind you."

Raenilar says, "If you wish to continue, I suggest other matters be discussed, should this war indeed come to an end and a suitable fate for the Three be found."

Morganae says to Raenilar, "Perhaps it is that your grasp of the Common is lacking in some manner. Perhaps you really do only hear what you wish to hear. A little advice - that is never a safe thing. You must seek to hear what you do not wish as well, or surely you will fall in the end, victim to your own folly."

Getalva says, "And here we begin again."

Wyren glances at Morganae.

Jomay begins to stare at Morganae then turns away.

Bilgrath slings a covered shield over his shoulder.

Morganae's head turns to regard Wyren with a meditative air. Wyren looks down, trying not to be noticed.

Eluresturi's mouth curves slightly in a very small, very private smile.

Edenlaen nods slightly to Eluresturi.

Ruinyk says, "If this point will not be compromised, it would seem there is little need for further discussion..."

Raenilar chuckles at Ruinyk.

Gyfford says, "Then let us discuss a gesture of good faith....You remove your barricades for free travel."

Wyren says to Gyfford, "One has been destroyed by an angry tog."

Gyfford says, "Always a scarey sight sir. But now remove the rest."

Wyren leans over and whispers to Yhaman.

Raenilar waves a hand dismissively. "Should we agree to end this war, granted. You lead well into a topic perhaps some progress can be made on. Trade."

Gyfford says, "Bah."

Yhaman dryly says to Raenilar, "I see again how a truce was broken, even after a talk with an Ambassador."

Gyfford says, "There can be no trade with barricades."

Raenilar glances at Gyfford, "... Thus why they would be removed. I did not believe you so dense."

Yhaman dryly says to Raenilar, "If their truces equate to what their words mean here, they are worth nothing."

Gyfford leans back, and Vorclaf shakes his head in disbelief.

Gyfford says, "A simple request king. And you choose insult." He stands up.

Varinocae mutters to herself, "Children."

Vorclaf says, "Sir, trade is done with nations who do not hold hostages. Trade is done with nations who allow their citizens travel through their towns without molestation."

Gyfford says, "I was asking the barricades to come down now as a gesture of good will."

Vorclaf says, "You wish to discuss trade? Demonstrate a gesture of good faith. You have yet to present anything to this table of worth."
Gyfford nods to Vorclaf, "Just so."

Kirew makes an impatient gesture, cut short sharply. His angry gaze meets that of Kulainik, and he settles to tense stillness once again.

Vorclaf asks Raenilar, "I have asked for the Three, you have refused. I have asked for removal of troops from Zoluren, you have refused. What -do- you offer?"

Raenilar says, "Trade is done with nations that do not threaten to crusade against the old and the young. You groan of hostages, and keep your own prisoners. Cease this utter foolishness, Prince."

Herrick says with a shrug, "Perhaps he fears you will march troops down those barricadless roads..."

Mairdaen's gaze shifts from face to face, alert and concentrated.

Vorclaf says, "Sir, we do not 'kidnap' innocents. If the sound of that does not taste good to you, then perhaps you should find a new vocation. Your Viceroy was captured and treated fairly. Your ally Raellia, was captured and treated fairly."

Getalva says, "Gentlemen, this does no good. We can point blame and accuse each other all day, and that day will be wasted. Someone needs to give."

Herrick bends over to whisper to Morganae while Eluresturi's hand fists slowly at her side.

Raenilar says, "And consider to listen as well. Occupying Zoluren is of little value should this war end. I've said that much already." Raenilar snorts, loudly.

Morganae's head turns slightly, inclining to her Captain as he speaks.

Vorclaf asks, "You dare to have your witch here perform her acts of necromancy on my guardsman?"

Wyren glances first at Vorclaf, then at Jomay.

Raenilar asks, "I da-- what?" Raenilar peers quizzically at Vorclaf then glances at Jomay.

Vorclaf asks Jomay, "Do you deny it?"

Jomay clasps her hands infront of her. "I deny nothing, I took his pain, nothing further."

Koromas glances at Raenilar.

Wyren glances at Jomay.

Antoc pushes his spectacles up the bridge of his nose.

Raenilar says, "Explain your claim, Prince Vorclaf."

Vorclaf laughs once. "My claim?"

Raenilar says, "Whatever it is you've just gone on about," as he gestures towards Jomay.

Vorclaf says, "Yes, I heard you, I could not believe you do not know what magics she is performing. Countless witness have observed this witch and the necromancer performing... rituals."

Jomay waves her hand dismissively.

Raenilar asks, "And this has... what to do with these proceedings?"

Vorclaf looks down and shakes his head. "You... you are unaware of what goes on beneath your very nose."

Mairdaen draws a little further away from Jomay, expression a mixture of disgust and wariness.

Raenilar says, "Spoken by one that needed the older Baron's assistance to claim the crown. I'm still looking for why this is relevant."

Vorclaf says to Raenilar, "Release the hostages. Now."

Gyfford fixes Raenilar with a frank, even stare.

Gyfford says, "You are not worthy to mention my lord father even in passing. And that has no bearing here."

Raenilar mutters into the air something about short-sightedness.

Vorclaf says to Raenilar, "You hold my cousin, Keresyk. You hold my guardsman, Zoranyl, and it's reported you even hold the Goblin Prince."

Vorclaf says, "Release them."

Gyfford nods to Vorclaf.

Fayne glances at Morganae.

Jomay says, "We'll do nothing of the sort."

Raenilar asks, "In exchange for... what? What do you offer for this request that I must immediately fulfill, Prince Vorclaf?"

Morganae says calmly to Raenilar, "Do you seek to prove to us that you are only and utterly a fool? Your position is not so strong as all this, that you can antagonize all in this room and hope to stand alone."

Yhaman growls low in the back of his throat.

Fayne says to Yhaman, "Keep your growls down, less you find yourself with no head to speak from."

Bilgrath says to Fayne, "It is a peace talk, we should keep it to that Milord."

Raenilar says to Morganae, "I see much blind posturing, threats, and requests from those whose lands survive this day solely because of these discussions. I do not see much more, yet."

Fayne asks Bilgrath, "And who are you?"

Bilgrath says to Fayne, "I am a Therengian Milord, I just imply too many threats are being used in these talks."

Yhaman says to Raenilar, "More threats it seems my Aman."

Getalva says, "You speak as if you are guiltless of the same."

Vorclaf says to Raenilar, "I will return to you, your Viceroy in exchange for the hostages."

Herrick glances at Morganae.

Morganae's head turns slowly as she fastens her remote gaze on Raenilar once again. She says distantly, "You are tedious. Strength without wisdom is always so, and you begin to wear on my patience."

Antoc jots a few notes in his journal.

Vorclaf coyly says to Raenilar, "However, in addition to this trade... I want you to deliver me the goblin."

Raenilar says to Vorclaf, laughing, "Should you come across a suitable heir of mine, such an exchange would be quite appropriate. As is, I have no desire to hold these prisoners indefinitely, but nor shall I offer them up solely in exchange for those you hold. You demand your heir, -and- my ally, for the Viceroy? I am pleased you value the Viceroy Egolan so highly. Indeed he is valuable." Raenilar smiles.

Eluresturi says to Raenilar, "He is only slightly less a cur than you."

Koromas looks thoughtfully at Eluresturi.

Vorclaf says, "A more than fair trade. Your ally is inept. Your Viceroy is as I understand, quite knowledgable and also your right hand."

Raenilar says, "Certainly. You may have them, for the Baron's head and but one of the Three. Now, perhaps, we can dispense with these absurd notions again."

Morganae gestures to Eluresturi to be silent, but she doesn't seem displeased.

Jomay laughs at Vorclaf.

Gyfford sits down on the chair.

Jomay says to Vorclaf, "You stupid human. You have no idea."

Raenilar smiles at Gyfford, "In this I mean no offense."

Gyfford says, "Understood. Amusing all the same. My lords..."

Eluresturi appears to be concentrating intently on something.

Eluresturi raises her eyes and fastens them on Jomay warningly.

Vorclaf says to Jomay, "At one point in my life, I piked a traitor's head. I swore I would never do such a deed again. You, madam, would make a liar out of me."

Wyren says to Jomay, "Good thing Jourok isn't here."

Raenilar ponders.

Fayne folds his arms across his chest.

Raenilar says, "We shall withdraw to the south side of the gondola. Providing your people, Baron, withdraw into your lands."

Kirew says to Raenilar, "You stand firm on your demand for the Three based on the belief that they owe you something for the crimes of history."

Yhaman folds his arms across his chest.

Raenilar says, "We both know how quickly such a decision can be unmade."

Gyfford says, "I can not withdraw my people I am sworn to help the prince."

Raenilar says, "Perhaps it is a suitable start."

Kirew says to Raenilar, "You operate under a mistaken premise in this determination to kill more of the leaders of Shard and of the Elothean people. None knew of your...ancient grievance save our Ferdahl, and...." his head turns towards Morganae momentarily. He resumes, "And of those two, the Ferdahl knew only what was written by her grandfather, and in that, there was no word of where those of your people who were driven forther went to. You vanished from all knowledge for those centuries - even those of your people who did remain and joined with ours forgot you in time."

Raenilar says to Kirew, "Indeed, your people nearly succeeded in forgetting. It is good that they did not." Raenilar looks at Kirew and shrugs.

Gyfford says, "And this you knew when you made that offer." Gyfford shrugs.

Raenilar nods to Gyfford.

Gyfford says, "I will not be foresworn for barricades."

Raenilar asks Gyfford, "Indeed, but should this war end, what need do you have of your forces in Zoluren?"

Vorclaf asks Raenilar, "You are so focused on the Three and the house leaders, yet you have mentioned your desire to seek vengence on another. And she sits at this table. Will you demand the Queen as well?"

Wyren says to Morganae, "I believe he's referring to you."

Fayne fixes Wyren with a serene, lofty stare.

Raenilar says to Gyfford, "And should these talks devolve into the outbreak of war, you are quite capable of returning."

Yhaman grins.

Gyfford shakes his head.

Raenilar says to Gyfford, "Just as we are quite capable of retaking land."

Kulainik asks Raenilar, "Are you indeed the rigid, intemperate *fool* this queen names you?"

Kulainik regards Raenilar with disbelieving astonishment.

Gyfford says, "I can not be foresworn for stone and metal.."

Raenilar says to Vorclaf, "Then perhaps with your permission, Prince Vorclaf, you may offer permission for your ally to return to his lands. As he seems to feel he would be 'abandoning' you." He chuckles.

Morganae sits poised and still, her attitude eloquent of sorely tried patience.

Raenilar says, "Demand the head of Queen Morganae." Raenilar ponders.

Vorclaf says to Raenilar, "You become too distracted and switch from topic to topic, ignoring the ones of importance. One would wonder if you are truly intent on these discussions or are preparing some deception."

Raenilar chuckles at Vorclaf, "Perhaps for once, you should listen to your ally the Baron, then. He has spoken of worth, when suggesting at least some minor matter be solved."

Yhaman growls low in the back of his throat.

Vorclaf says, "I begin to wonder if your ability is only in the body and not in the mind."

Yhaman balls up his fists stiffly at his side.

Koromas shakes his head at Yhaman.

Raenilar says to Vorclaf, "Pray it is not, Prince Vorclaf; you would abhor the consequences if it were. I am, after all, still -here-."

Yhaman glances at Koromas.

Gyfford asks, "Why? when you will not bend?"

Yhaman inhales a great swallow of air.

Vorclaf says to Raenilar, "I have brought valid issues to the discussion, which to be pointed -you- wished in the first place. Do you intend on making a mockery of these talks, or will you demonstrate some sort of intelligence in making a decision."

Mairdaen's gaze scans the room, resting on each face in turn, his own expressive of nothing more than concentration and profound thoughtfulness.

Herrick shifts his weight.

Raenilar says, "Your demands are from an untenable position, and unreasonable to accept, Prince Vorclaf. If you do not desire these discussions, then perhaps a little time is needed before you do. I would advise against you taking that course of action, however."

Vorclaf says to Raenilar, "And in regards to the good Baron. I have no intention of 'sending' him home. Zoluren and Therengia share a long history of alliance. His armies march through Zoluren with my blessing. Why? Because, we have trust in one another."

Morganae says very softly to Raenilar, "Little, nameless, forgotten whelp of a desert dog, you place too much faith in your position. It is not as strong as you pretend to believe and all here know it."

Vorclaf asks Raenilar, "Explain to me how the release of your hostages for my prisoners is unreasonable?"

Vorclaf asks, "Do you not hold value on your Viceroy? Your right hand as it were? Or do you fear that the only way you can control a situation is to be nothing more than simple kidnapper."

Eluresturi turns her head slightly to meet Kirew's gaze for a long moment.

Antoc turns the page of his journal and continues his documenting.

Raenilar says, "Perhaps you should value your heirs more highly, Prince. I imagine that unlike my people, he was not willing to die over this."

Gyfford asks, "You who would make war on a child?"

Vorclaf says to Raenilar, "Keresyk is of age to make decision and serve. I honor his choice as I honor all who choose to serve."

Vorclaf says to Raenilar, "I do not hide in my Keep, I met you on the battlefield, as did Keresyk serve on ship."

Raenilar says, "Hardly. He is treated well -- which is far better than what you threaten just this night, Baron." Raenilar looks at Gyfford and shrugs.

Vorclaf says, "You are nothing more than a thug, with other thugs serving."

Wyren quietly says to Jomay, "I'm not really a thug."

Mairdaen glances keenly at Wyren.

Raenilar asks, "Shall I spit your words back at you, Prince? What else would you call the man that threatens so boldly to march on what old and children alike he can find amidst a desert?" Raenilar glares at Vorclaf.

Raenilar says, "'Your good friend' if I recall correctly."

Vorclaf asks Raenilar, "With respect, you have no idea how he is treated. You were unaware of Zoranyl's treatment. And what of the Goblin prince? And what other hostages do you hold that we are unaware of?"

Fayne says to Raenilar, "What you fail to see, is that while the Human Prince holds prisoners. You hold hostages, there is a difference."

Raenilar snorts at Fayne.

Yhaman dryly says, "This is pointless. If I wanted to hear threats, insults I could of just stayed in Shard and listen to the Commanders talk. My Aman, we walk in circles in these talks. Word games not good, direct should this be."

Fayne says to Raenilar, "Do not snort at me, or perhaps you forget the fatal blow I dealt to you so soon. There is more of that where it came from."

Raenilar says, "Such a selective memory for memorable encounters. Spare your threats, I tire of them."

Gyfford sighs.

Raenilar says, "It's clear nothing shall be accomplished this evening. I suggest we end for now, and return on the next day for another attempt."

Vorclaf asks, "Again... you stall, for what purpose?"

Gyfford asks, "Perhaps you will come back to the table with a more open mind if we do break?"

Vorclaf says, "Give the hostages back, take your troops back off Zoluren lands, relinquish your quest against the Three and the Queen, then we can deal with the next issues."

Raenilar says, "For the purpose of -not- destroying more keeps than I need to, Prince. Or perhaps you should ask what you have left to gain with your foolish demands. Demands like those, for which you have nothing to offer." He turns to Gyfford, "Let us hope that more than just "I" return with an open mind," then scoffs.

Gyfford says, "Sir my mind is open."

Vorclaf says, "For the hostages and the Goblin Grishnok, I will return your Viceroy."

Morganae says, "This is pointless. Desert cur, end this posturing and come back to this table as a man with something which might distantly resemble a working intellect, rather than a posturing ego drunk on blood. Otherwise you may find that rather than drink, you may drown in it."

Raenilar fixes Morganae with a serene, lofty stare.

Morganae flicks one hand sharply, an irritated gesture.

Wyren quietly says to Jomay, "This is getting quite tense."

Raenilar says, "Silence your words, 'Queen.' You more than -any- present bear guilt for this situation. Any at all. You have -no- right to presume as you do."

Wyren fixes his sight on the exit.

Gyfford says, "You are showing one thing king..you are showing that your rule should it occur will be without mercy and without compramise."

Raenilar says, "I grow vastly tired of your insults, and will tolerate them no longer."

Getalva asks, "And what will you do?"

Yhaman joins Raenilar's group.

Herrick says, "Yes what will you do ..."

Morganae says to Raenilar, "You are a fool, and only I know what guilts I MAY bear, and what triumphs I may cherish. Child, fool, intemperate creature."

Herrick smiles.

Wyren quietly exclaims to Jomay, "I almost thought about gating but then remembered.. I don't have beam!"

Yhaman dryly says to Wyren, "One has been arranged."

Gyfford asks, "Or is that you intend to rule with an iron fist and are giving a preview?" Gyfford peers quizzically at Raenilar.

Raenilar says to Herrick, "If your Queen would be so kind as to show herself outside of her mountains, and not under pretenses of these meetings, perhaps you will find out. This, too, is a course of action I do not advise."

Getalva smiles. and says, "Oh, yes, by all means. 'We cannot fight you on your terms, so we will puff ourselves up until you meet us on ours.'"

Edenlaen shifts her weight, gazing at the expression on each face around her.

Morganae says, "Ah, puppy, you see, I do not see any need to pander to your ego. Should you live long enough you may learn subtlety. You may learn to be clever."

Raenilar chuckles at Getalva.

Morganae says, "I am not sanguine, however." and waves a languid hand.

Herrick smiles.

Gyfford sighs.

Raenilar asks, "Well. Do you all wish to continue for our people to die, or shall we simply depart and attempt this again tomorrow?" Raenilar raises an eyebrow.

Vorclaf glances up smiling, "King Raenilar, these talks have shown one thing."

Eluresturi's hand closes so tightly on the back of Fayne's chair that her knuckles gleam white and a very thin trickle of blood trails down her fingers.

Vorclaf says, "When I agreed to your cease fire, it was with the honorable intention of maintaining such a truce for talks I understand this day one of my lieutenants destroyed one of your barricades. I had intended to discuss the matter with him, however, I am now in firm belief, that he is owed a commendation for his efforts."

Raenilar says, "And here I was polite enough to not raise that issue, for the purpose of moving these forward." Raenilar smiles.

Gyfford chuckles.
Vorclaf says, "You have shown no effort for gesture of peace. You have made no concessions other than to firm your beliefs."

Vorclaf says, "The talks this day are now over. Zoluren leaves the table"

Yhaman says to Vorclaf, "I see, then I understand my next course of actions should be."

Eluresturi glances at Getalva, and then down at her hand, looking faintly surprised. She relaxes her hold, straightening where she stands.

Vorclaf pointedly ignores Yhaman.

Gyfford says, "As does Therengia."

Prince Vorclaf's group just went west.

Morganae says to Fayne, "My son, I see no great charm in this company." and she stands up.

Commander Bilgrath just went west.

Herrick says, "Well that went stunningly bad."

Yhaman says to Raenilar, "I told you they had no honor to abide by their own words."
Ruinyk sighs, shaking his head.

Wyren exclaims, "Well, atleast noone died!"

Wyren stands up.

Chieftain Ruinyk just went west.

Raenilar nods to Yhaman.

Yhaman gestures.

A shimmering shield surrounds Yhaman.

A shimmering shield encompasses Raenilar.

Wyren mumbles atleast he didn't die.

Jomay stands up.

Yhaman gestures at Raenilar.

Koromas says, "Well I suppose I have many gates to watch."

Yhaman nods.

Kaith Partani Jomay's group just went west.

Varinocae says, "Stupid waste of time."
On the 11th day of the 8th month of Skullcleaver the Dwarven Axe (Day 291) in the year of the Iron Toad (375), an army of desert warriors - Outcasts all, marches forth from the wastelands beyond the Velakan desert down through Muspar'I towards the cities of Therenborough and RiverHaven. Meanwhile in a surprise move, Prince Saeward of the Ker'leor Gypsies leads his own band of brigands in an attack on the great Keep itself.

Raenilar casually observes the area.
With the Warrior King Raenilar himself leading the advance, a forward attachment of at least a thousand warriors reaches the outskirts of Theren. Prince Saeward turns his forces south, moving on the idyllic enclave known as Langenfirth in an obviously coordinated effort. The Outcast forces move to the east and toward RiverHaven via Rossman's Landing, the remaining divisions being brought up from behind.

Mairdaen says nothing, his expression continuing thoughtful.
As the day waned, Prince Saeward's forces secure Langenfirth while the Outcasts capture RiverHaven, snatching it from its beleagured defenders. Saeward's Gypsies barricade the way to Rossman's, effectively cutting off Therenborough. Across the lake, Orcs and Goblins assist the Outcasts in locking down RiverHaven and securing the city. In an unusual display of mercy, the ferry entrance is left available for the refugees to evacuate the city and the dead to be extracted. The refugees arrive in Zoluren late into the night.

Raenilar says, "I'd offer parting words, but their own foolishness and arrogance speaks well enough for them."

==Aftermath==
The results of the Outcast War have left a number of emotional scars in the players and GMs of DragonRealms. It was one of the major causes of the leaving of several prominant GMs of the time, as well as contributing to the leaving of an unknown number of players.

Even over ten years later, some current GMs still admit to having lingering resentments over the affair.

Official Description

Taken from the original play.net event page:

"What is the Price of Destiny?"

"Shard was a city born not once, but twice."

So begins the tale of Silvyrlock the Wanderer. Rich in history, a city of sparkling beauty and dark secrets, the tale of Shard is long and storied. In the year 375 however, another chapter was written. The Outcasts, a desert dwelling people who claimed Shard as their birthright, have taken the city and now rule from inside its crystalline walls.

Displaced from their ancestral home, they dwelled for years in the inhospitable deserts of the north, awaiting the coming of the one that was prophesied to lead them back to the land of their ancestors.

The Ferdahl has fallen, the Elothean people are scattered, and an uneasy truce is in place. The Outcast's prophesied king, Raenilar, now rules from the throne atop the Great Tower. Is this indeed a third rebirth for the city of Shard? Only time will tell.

For a timeline of the events of the Outcast War, see Outcast_War/Timeline.

Description

In 2002 the story line for the Outcast War was introduced via the character Grishnok who in addition to filling a contract to embarrass the empath's guild was recruiting willing groups to ally with the 'angry people'.

How it began

Warrior Prince Raenilar's group came through a silver arch, into the Great Tower of Shard's Hall of Feasts. There the Ferdahl was holding a celebration after the victorious Ilithi and Zoluren fight for the old Fortress outside of Shard where the goblin Grishnok and the pirate Jourok had held up.

In attendance were many of the military who helped at the battle, Prince Fayne of the Mountain Elves, members of the Ferdahl's Court and guard, and of course the Ferdahl.

Egolan and Yhaman, the visitors who have been around a while, attended the Warrior Prince.

Raenilar nodded to Kukalakai and said, "Ferdahl. I have heard you were of a mind to speak with me."

Kukalakai turned her head, regarding Raenilar with great interest and said to Raenilar, "Sir, I was. I think we share some history."

Raenilar replied, "We share a great deal of history. That history is why we are here, and now."

Kukalakai said to him, "It is time and past time we spoke, I think."

Raenilar asked, "Do you believe you might say something, that would balance 600 years of history?"

Kukalakai responded back to Raenilar, "I was not born at the time you speak of. No more were you, I think. Can we not make right what our ancestors could not?"

Observers saw Egolan shake some sand from his boots; which is an insult in some parts of the world. Whether or not it is to these Northerners is unknown.

Raenilar continued his conversation with the Ferdahl, "Indeed we can, Ferdahl. Indeed we can. But there is nothing you could offer, upon behalf of yourself or your people, that could hope to change the results of 600 years of existence."

Kukalakai asked Raenilar, "Our people have turned from war whenever they have choice. We believe in the arts of peace and a generous understanding. Will you speak with me of setting aside old hurts?"

Raenilar laughed at that. There was an uncomfortable hush in the room as the Ferdahl Kukalakai regarded him evenly, meeting his gaze without looking away.

"What use war, when simple banishment shall suffice?" he asked. "When you do not have what you or your kind desire?" Raenilar fixed Kukalakai with a serene, lofty stare.

Kukalakai said to Raenilar, "That is bitterness and the wrongs of the past speaking through you. I offer a hand of...reparation, at least, if you will not accept friendship."

Prince Fayne told Kukalakai, "There is no need to apologize for what transpired. Shard was built by Morganae and Corik and it stands for greatness this day."

Raenilar responded, "The chains that have bound us since the founding of this city are strained. They are stretched to their limit, and I have broken the first of them -- those that bind myself. Very soon, I will return to our people, those who were Outcast from this land so your bloodline could have this city. I shall return there, and tear asunder those bonds forged so long ago. You wish reparation? There is no reparation you can offer. Our lands and freedoms were taken. The only reparation, also, is that which can be taken."

When Raenilar had finished speaking, Kukalakai first spoke to Fayne, "Shard is worth the blood in my veins and the rest of my years and I grudge nothing to her. But sometimes, a wrong can be amended."

Fayne agreed with Kukalakai, "Yes a wrong can be ammended."

Kukalakai turned to Raenilar, "Then, sir, you will compound the wrong done to your fathers and mothers. And you will be as wrong now as my forebears may have been then."

Raenilar said, "Weak words, from a weak bloodline -- one that chose to do nothing about these 'wrongs' until brought face to face with them."

Kukalakai straightened further and fixed Raenilar with an imperious gaze, "Once more, I say - take my hand. I will seet myself to meet my grandfather's debt to you. If you do not - then you force me and my people, and there can be no peace between us, no friendship and no grace."

Yhaman was overheard saying quietly said to Egolan, "We waste time, the longer we speak, the longer it takes to return."

Fayne spoke to Kukalakai, "You are kind to offer your sympathies to these... desert dwellers. However you have nothing to apologize for."

Raenilar said, "We have survived for longer than this city has with neither your peace, friendship, nor grace. We will continue to survive that way. Will you? Prepare yourself, Ferdahl, for our prophesies draw near. Prepare yourself, Commanders, because your times shall change, and you shall have change with them."

Kukalakai stared at Raenilar, disregarding his attendants completely. Then she spoke, "So be it. Get you gone from my Tower, you and your people. From the moment you clear the doors of this place, you are hunted enemy. Go, and my sorrow you choose it so."

Fayne nodded, "Spoken as the Queen should."

Herrick, guarding and travelling with Prince Fayne, quickly added, "As our Queen would have."

Raenilar told the Ferdahl, "We shall leave this place. Pray your words will make a difference."

Kukalakai sighed as Warrior Prince Raenilar's group went through a silver arch and out of the tower. His group was given safe passage escort through Ilithi, Zoluren and Therengia.[1]

Death of Kukalakai

[The Great Tower, Hall of Audiences] Although exposed on all but one side to the rows of white benches reserved for observers, this dais, spread as it is with an array of large square pillows for the comfort of both Ferdahl and guests, manages to retain a feeling of intimacy. The doors leading back to the hallway are set in a curving, mirrored wall, and the floor beneath the pillows is covered by a finely woven indigo silk rug. Also in the room: Mairdaen, Captain Jourok, Kaith Partani Jomay, Ferdahl Kukalakai, Varinocae, Votary Wyren, Viceroy Egolan, and Warrior King Raenilar. Obvious exits: none.

Raenilar nods to Mairdaen.

Kukalakai inclines her head slightly, saying, "Greetings, my enemy."

Raenilar nods.

Raenilar says, "Well. It is good that you speak directly, so I shall honor that and waste no time of mine."

Mairdaen steps back to stand, watchful, by the closed doors.

Kukalakai says, "I know no other name for you than that. It is all you ever gave me."

Kukalakai says, "You have stolen my city and slain my people, my enemy."

Raenilar smiles.

Raenilar says, "Just those words, I imagine, were spoken 6 centuries ago. By my very own ancestors. How fitting, that you speak them now, and feign belief in them."

Kukalakai says, "Yes. Maybe so."

Kukalakai inhales, then straightens to meet Raenilar's gaze proudly.

Kukalakai says, "Oh yes. They did your ancestors great wrong, those of my people who appeared in numbers, stayed on your ground, found you there and did not leave, respecting your ownership. It is not a thing I like to acknowledge, it is not a thing I can excuse by saying, such is the way of the world, the strong prevail, or, many have done worse. It is not the way I would have for my people. "

Kukalakai says, "Knowing why Corik says he continued does not excuse. I cannot know why the Queen did so - you must ask her if you care for explanation. But I tell you now that this brings no honor on you, on your people, any more than it did on mine. Perhaps you are more like your enemy Morganae - revenge tasted well to her once on a time also."

Mairdaen shifts restlessly by the door.

Kukalakai glances at Raenilar.

Kukalakai says, "But I tell you this...."

Raenilar folds his arms across his chest.

Kukalakai says, "This city did not exist before my people and the Elven people built it. You had ruins and villages. I do not deny a wrong was done, but you also commit one now. You steal a city that was built with the effort and the will of many, paid for with a man's honor, and bought back at great cost in blood from the Dragon Priests who came to plague this land before you. Thus city is no more yours than the stars or the moons, and you will pass and be only an evil memory."

Raenilar says, "Customarily, you would be silent, perhaps even gagged, right now -- allowed to speak only when I have offered you your ritual opportunity. But, as you are the once-ruler of this city, and perhaps because there is more ritual to be done, I will allow you to continue."

Raenilar smiles slightly.

Kukalakai shakes her head slightly, saying, "This city will never belong to you. Perhaps...your children, if they live to be born here, and to grow to love and serve it. You do not serve, you only wish for mastery."

Kukalakai says, "As for my people - they are the Elotheans, and they will live as well. Another will lead them in my place, and they will go on. But this is their city, built by their forebears. And those who are not Elothean but live here and love this city will also go on. I do not know if you will sleep easy here, my enemy, but you will never be part of this place."

Jomay says to Kukalakai, "You will be forgotten, as Corik will be forgotten. It will be as if you never existed."

Raenilar says, "Are you quite finished, Ferdahl, or do you have more to banter on about your six centuries of progress and the blood you spilled to keep what your predecessors gained through spilling yet more blood? You truly believe that your people have washed away the stain that rots the very foundation of this city? You dare question our right to this land and city? ..."

Wyren glances at Jomay.

Raenilar says, "Well, yes, Ferdahl. After all, how else would you wish this to end? You wish to be remembered as well. And so you shall -- with hope, far better than how well my own ancestors were."

Kukalakai lifts her chin slightly and looks at Raenilar coolly. She says, "I have no more to say to one with no will to hear. You mistake. One person does not make a people, and the memories held of me, for good or ill, will matter little to me soon, I think."

Raenilar says, "You know so little of what has become of the my people -- the very descendants of those who were banished from this land. You can hardly comprehend the words you utter. 'One person does not make a people.' If there is any who understand the need for a binding of brothers and sisters, it is us. That very notion is one of several things that many might say -defines- us. And yet you presume to lecture me."

Raenilar says, "You are right, though, Ferdahl. You do, in fact, have very little time left to worry about how you will be remembered."

Raenilar asks, "Do you know how you are to die?"

Kukalakai says, "If I know so little, it is because you would not speak when speech was offered and sought with an honest heart."

Kukalakai asks, "....no. I do not. Tell me, will you kill me, again and again? Collect me from the altar, kill me again? Make a mockery of me, and of the favor of the gods towards me?"

Raenilar draws forth a curved ceremonial dagger with strands of red and white silk around the pommel.

Jomay says to Kukalakai, "No dearie, that wont be necessary."

Jomay hums a haunting melody.

Raenilar nods to Jomay.

Raenilar rubs a curved ceremonial dagger with strands of red and white silk around the pommel.

Wyren furrows his brow.

Kukalakai glances at Jomay.

Raenilar asks, "Do you recognize, perhaps, the form of this blade?"

Kukalakai says to Jomay, "Silence, witch and crone. I will not have my last time, if such this be, tainted by such as you."

Raenilar says, "It is a derivative of a S'kra weapon. Oft used as an assassin's weapon, it's purpose is quite limited, but it is effectiveness cannot be underestimated."

Raenilar taps a curved ceremonial dagger with strands of red and white silk around the pommel that he is holding.

Jomay giggles.

Kukalakai says to Raenilar, "I see you will mourn me as you use it against me."

Wyren casually observes the area.

Raenilar says, "This particular dagger was hand-forged with one person in mind. You. And when you are slain, the favor of the gods shall mean precious little."

Wyren glances at a pair of carved ash doors.

Egolan glances at Wyren.

Koromas fixes Wyren with a frank, even stare.

Jourok says to Wyren, "Stand yer ground, lad."

Jourok gets a whale bone-hilted scimitar etched in brass from inside his leather harness.

Raenilar says, "I do mourn your passing, Ferdahl. I mourn that this was necessary, and yet celebrate that the next steps of justice, of vengeance, of the rightful return of the Outcast tribes of Muspar'i... are taken now."

Kukalakai pales slightly, her gaze flicking rapidly from Raenilar's face to the dagger he holds, before once more lifting to meet his eyes.

Yhaman turns his poloh'izh hide cloak.

Yhaman fades from your very sight!

Mairdaen glances at Raenilar, taking a half-step forward towards him before stopping abruptly and resuming his watch.

Koromas glances at Mairdaen.

Jomay says, "Be done with it."

Koromas shakes his head.

Jomay waves her hand dismissively.

His manner distant, impersonal, almost priestly, Raenilar steps forward before Kukalakai. With the right hand he reaches out to hold her hair, pulling back her head as she stands motionless. In his left is the curved dagger which he raises to rest lightly about her throat. The two stare at each other across the blade.

Jomay glances at Wyren.

Still meeting the woman's gaze, Raenilar gestures that those holding her should step back. As they do so, he turns the blade he holds and draws it sharp and strong in a slanting, downward stroke. The blade bites deep into the point where neck and shoulder meet, and blood follows instantly in a bright spray.

Kukalakai staggers an instant as the dagger bites, one hand reaching as if to grasp at the arm holding her before dropping back to her side. An odd, small exhalation, almost a laugh, escapes her along with a trickle of blood from her mouth as she dies.

  • Kukalakai is slain before your eyes!

The shimmering shield fades from around Kukalakai.

Raenilar releases his hold on her hair and the body of the Ferdahl slides slowly from the blade to fold on the bloody ground.

You also see the body of Kukalakai, motionless in a slowly spreading pool of scarlet blood. Also in the room: Mairdaen, Captain Jourok, Kaith Partani Jomay, Varinocae, Viceroy Egolan, and Warrior King Raenilar. Obvious exits: none.

Raenilar nods to Mairdaen.

Raenilar says, "Let her passing be the first. There is yet more work to be done."

Mairdaen says, "My King, you have what you wished."

Jomay turns sharply, her cloak following suit.

Yhaman says to Raenilar, "There are still current forces of Zoluren and Therengia in the area."

Raenilar nods to Yhaman.

Raenilar says to Yhaman, "Then let us be rid of them."

Jomay says, "Take Zoluren."

Mairdaen stretches out one hand, saying, "You have the city, you have your vengeance."

Jomay says, "And do the same to the Prince."

Jomay hums a haunting melody.

You hear the voice of Koromas say, "Woman you are to bloodthirsty by far."

Mairdaen says to Jomay, "Be silent, bitch. You have no kin, you have no people. You are nothing."

Raenilar nods to Mairdaen.

Jomay glances at Mairdaen.

You hear the voice of Koromas say, "You don't fight you are like a leech, so yes be silent."

You hear the voice of Koromas say, "For once I agree with my brother."

Jourok says, "Now dat nae be too neighborly. We be 'elp'd yer barnacle arses."

Raenilar nods to Jourok.

Raenilar says, "The pirate speaks correctly."

Raenilar says, "Silence, the lot of you."

Koromas comes out of hiding.

Koromas bows to Raenilar.

Jourok says, "Doncha be fergett'n dat either."

Mairdaen falls into silence, mouth tight.

Koromas says, "Be silent dwarf you make me ill."

Koromas sneers.

Raenilar says, "Ensure that this tower, and the city, is clear of invaders."

Koromas says, "Yes sire."

Raenilar says, "There is word that Zoluren will mobilize against us."

Koromas bows to Raenilar.

Raenilar says, "We must prepare to march forth and meet them."

Koromas went through a pair of carved ash doors.

Egolan bows to Raenilar.

Raenilar nods to Jomay.

Egolan glances at the body of Kukalakai, motionless in a slowly spreading pool of scarlet blood.

Viceroy Egolan went through a pair of carved ash doors.

Mairdaen says, "I shall care for the lady."

Raenilar says, "You are to continue your services. Our need of you is in Zoluren."

Raenilar nods to Mairdaen.

Mairdaen says, "If you will allow, my King."

Jomay nods politely.

Mairdaen bows.

Jomay smirks.

Kaith Partani Jomay went through a pair of carved ash doors.

Yhaman asks Jourok, "How many islands did we give to your pirates?"

Raenilar says, "See that she is properly placed."

Jourok asks Yhaman, "Shut yer flapp'r. We be put up wif yer troops fer 'ow long?"

Raenilar says, "Vengeance, justice, her destruction, but let us not dishonor ourselves with treatment of her remains."

Raenilar says, "I will not be compared to the ruler of Zoluren, who placed his predecessor's head on a pike on his own city walls."

Jourok mumbles something under his breath.

Captain Jourok went through a pair of carved ash doors.

Mairdaen nods to Raenilar.

Yhaman nods.

Mairdaen kneels to gather up the body of the dead woman in his arms gently. Rising to his feet, he turns and leaves the room in silence.

Yhaman makes a grunting noise.

Yhaman gestures.

Yhaman's eyes darken a shade.

Yhaman went through a pair of carved ash doors.

Also in the room: Varinocae and Warrior King Raenilar. Obvious exits: none.

Varinocae shakes her head, eyelids half-lowered.

Varinocae just went through a pair of carved ash doors.

Raenilar sheathes his ceremonial dagger.

Raenilar glances at the windows, and then closes them.

First Peace Talks

Antoc clears his throat and says, "We are gathered here on this day, the 85th day of year 376, to facilitate an accord among the provinces and the occupying government of Ilithi. Please remain silent as dignitaries are announced and escorted in."

Antoc unlatches and opens his leather journal and pushes his spectacles up the bridge of his nose as he reads,"Representing the Outcast government..."

"Warrior King Raenilar Celendron, Yhaman, Koromas Urthil, Mairdaen - Keeper of history, Varinocae Lidh."

Warrior King Raenilar's group came in from one side..

Antoc turns a page of his journal and raises an eyebrow, saying, "Representing the Outcast allies..."

"Lady Jomay Maveinelei, Votary Wyren Si'drow."

Wyren waves at someone, who knows, maybe at everyone, as they enter together.

Antoc casually observes the area, and turns another page, "Introducing the Mountain Elf contingent..."

"Queen Morganae Sunderstone, Prince Fayne Sunderstone, Lady Eluresturi Ynaen'almura, Captain Herrick Iocaste, Envoy Getalva Suiashin."

Prince Fayne escorts the members of the Mountain Elves group in.

Antoc turns a page of his journal and calls, "Representing the Zoluren-Therengian alliance..."

"His Majesty, Vorclaf Lasa'Sorvendig - Prince of Zoluren, His Grace, Gyfford Theren - Baron of Therengia, Lady Edenlaen Farrenlaore - Khalo of the Empath Guild, Captain Shaheyra Kawhn of the Royal Guard, Commander Bilgrath Sharcoris of the Therengian Infantry, Captain Owaen Bannistre of the Zoluren Cavalry."

Prince Vorclaf's group follows.

Antoc turns a page of his journal, "Representing the Horse clan of Ilithi..."

"Chieftain Ruinyk Ganela'shyrel."

Antoc says, "Representing the former Shard government..."

Antoc recites:

"Kulainik Emaylian, General Kirew Deruhanae."

Antoc closes his journal and looks forward. "These negotiations are hereby called to order." With that, he bows.

Jomay says to Kirew, "Oh do sit down." He did not take her up on that invitation.

Kulainik regards the standing Raenilar, facing him across the table.

Vorclaf asks Raenilar, "Are you waiting for an invitation to be seated, or do you wish to conquer it first?"

Raenilar says, "It appears to present more of a threat than you do, Prince Vorclaf, and therefore I give it more consideration first."

Gyfford says, "We will cede tha chair please sit."

Yhaman grins at Koromas.

Raenilar asks, "Do you wish to dispense with the petty insults, then?"

Vorclaf says, "I'm sure a defenseless chair is to your liking, King. Something that doesn't fight back and will shape to your will."

Gyfford shifts his weight.

Shaheyra flicks her gaze briefly at Vorclaf before looking ahead once more.

Gyfford nods to Bilgrath.

Morganae remains seated, still and silent, her stance hinting at patient indulgence.

Raenilar says, "A simple 'no' would have sufficed. While you may not be interested in being brief, I've no interest in wasting more breath than necessary on this. And so I will spare you all the history lesson; though in regards to certain people present, perhaps it would make better autobiographical material."

Morganae's head turns to regard Raenilar with distant appraisal.

Mairdaen shifts very slightly, his gaze sweeping the room with alert interest.

Raenilar says, "Shard has fallen. With some small resistance near Fayrin's Rest that we have allowed to remain while securing our own positions, so has much of Illithi. We also presently hold land north of the gondola, and our forces have engaged at least a few times even to the north of Leth Deriel."

Raenilar says, "You have something I require, Prince Vorclaf, and you have constantly chosen to place yourself in front of the guilt of the Three, for actions in the past, and for their choices of utter inaction."

Raenilar says, "They must face judgement, if any of us here wish to stop further bloodshed. You do not want this war on your keep's doorstep, Prince. Wars fought on your own land are little better for morale than foreign ones." Raenilar gazes at Gyfford.

Gyfford fixes Raenilar with a frank, even stare.

Vorclaf says, "I have nothing you require, King Raenilar, with the exception of a gallows. You invade Shard. You invade Zoluren, but yet you can not conquer and control both."

Vorclaf says, "I have sworn my life to protect the Three, and that is non-negotiable."

Fayne raises an eyebrow.

Raenilar raises an eyebrow.

Gyfford says, "As have I."

Bilgrath shakes his head at Gyfford.

Jomay turns sharply facing Vorclaf with a piercing glare.

Kirew's hands rest lightly on his swordbelt and his eyes never leave Raenilar's face.

Vorclaf glances at Jomay, "Don't stare at me witch, I will strike that look off your face."

Wyren places his face in his hand and slowly shakes his head.

Kulainik asks Raenilar, "You speak in half truths, and old rage clothes your words. You say you wish to avenge an old wrong, and yet you only repeat it. Is there no wisdom in your people to temper anger with reason?"

Raenilar fixes Kulainik with a serene, lofty stare.

Vorclaf says to Raenilar, "You appear distracted, on many fronts. Stay focussed on our discussion."

Vorclaf says, "You can not have the Three. You have murdered in cold blood once, you will not do so again."

Raenilar angrily says to Vorclaf, "Then you would do well to silence your associates while they raise such 'unfocused' matters. Tho I realize you have such little control over your allies, at least in battle." Raenilar looks thoughtfully at Vorclaf.

Kirew glances at Vorclaf, rage flaring across his face and as quickly suppressed.

Raenilar says, "I seem to recall stories of a certain head sitting upon a certain pike in your lands. 'Cold blood' indeed."

Vorclaf leans back and smiles softly.

Gyfford says, "Maybe you should learn from that." Gyfford glances at Raenilar.

Vorclaf says, "We are not here to debate my actions, no matter how justified they were. The table is to discuss your invasion of Zoluren and Shard."

Morganae turns her head very slightly, beckoning to her Captain. As he bends to her she murmurs very quietly to him, one hand gesturing with idly about the room.

Jomay says, "Lets get to the point dearie. We demand Arthe Dale and the outer clans."

Mairdaen glances at Jomay with undisguised revulsion.

Vorclaf turns his head and blinks slowly at Jomay, saying to her, "And who are you? Other than some ancient hag."

Yhaman says to Jomay, "Hold your tongue till required to speak."

Wyren clears his throat.

Jomay fixes Yhaman with a serene, lofty stare.

Edenlaen gazes coldly at Jomay.

Jomay says to Yhaman, "We were promised many things, do not tell me to hold my tongue."

Koromas shudders.

Getalva says, "Perhaps we would do well to avoid the insults where possible. On all sides."

Jomay says to Edenlaen, "And you, don't even try to show your lack of fear to me. I 'know' you."

Wyren places his face in his hand and slowly shakes his head.

Edenlaen smiles blandly at Jomay.

Yhaman growls ferociously.

Gyfford says, "A king that can not control his allies has no allies just rabble.."

Yhaman inhales a great swallow of air.

Bilgrath quietly says to Gyfford, "Touche'."

Vorclaf remains focussed on Raenilar. "Now, shall we continue?"

Jomay loudly exclaims, "I will not be ignored!"

Wyren quietly asks Jomay, "Perhaps... shut up?"

Raenilar says to Gyfford, "Well spoken, given several assaults on our present holdings after my speaking with the Prince's ambassador."

Gyfford says, "Not by my people."

Eluresturi's hands clench at her sides but she remains silent at Fayne's back, only her eyes moving from face to face.

Raenilar says to Jomay, "Your role will not be forgotten, Jomay. But your demand has been heard, and there is more to be said." He turns back to Gyfford, "Indeed. I did not say that it was."

Getalva leans over to speak quietly with Eluresturi.

Raenilar says to Vorclaf, "And you asked who she was."

Jomay says to Raenilar, "Of course, dearie, of course."

Raenilar says, "For the important point, she is a reason we are hosting these talks here, and not further south. To put more of a point on it, she is a reason why the majority of your forces must remain in Zoluren."

Herrick says, "She is a creature that needs putting down and quickly."

Fayne glances at Morganae.

Raenilar says, "Let us attempt some... simpler matters."

Morganae says indulgently, "Now, now, my Captain. Would you refuse this one his toys? I hear no response to the Elothean's question, and so one must assume that, as children do, he lacks restraint and lacks fully formed reason."

Herrick bows to Morganae, "As you say my queen."

Morganae's gaze rests coolly on Raenilar.

Vorclaf leans back and asks Raenilar, "Do I need to wait 600 years to hear them?"

Gyfford asks, "Perhaps we can return to the simple matters?"

Raenilar shrugs briefly to Vorclaf, and turns to Morganae. "Assume as you like, and accept the consequences of whatever conclusions it brings you to." He turns back to Vorclaf; Vorclaf seems to be waiting for him.

Morganae says encouragingly, "Indeed, the simple matters seem...best suited to the moment." Her gaze never wavers from Raenilar, and her voice holds more than a hint of contempt.

Vorclaf glances at Morganae.

Morganae says to Vorclaf, "Do proceed."

Raenilar says, "First, the city of Shard itself, then. We will not be forced out. And should the fate of the Three be decided, there is little reason for our presence in Zoluren. This war brings about little else."

Vorclaf says to Raenilar, "So you agree that the Three shall not have any further bearing on these negotiations. And you further agree no actions will be taken by you to somehow 'mysteriously' make them disappear."

Raenilar says, "Not hardly. I merely assert that should we resolve their fate, there is otherwise little use for this war."

Gyfford raises an eyebrow. "I had thought we were clear on them already. You may not have them."

Yhaman makes a grunting noise.

Raenilar smiles.

Eluresturi's attention shifts to Yhaman briefly.

Shaheyra leans forward slightly, murmuring to Vorclaf for a moment before resuming her position.

Raenilar says, "Then perhaps later, I shall not ask 'for' them, Baron. There are yet other possible fates."

Yhaman grins at Eluresturi. Eluresturi bares her teeth at Yhaman, an expression which doesn't remotely resemble an answering grin.

Vorclaf says, "The Three remain a protectorate of Zoluren. If that means they will reside there, then so be it. They will not be given up."

Gyfford smiles at Raenilar.

Raenilar asks, "You speak of Zoluren, or something a touch more subtle, Baron?"

Jomay giggles.

Wyren glances at Jomay.

Gyfford says, "You are not stupid I presume..."

Morganae makes a faintly amused sound.

Gyfford shrugs.

Vorclaf says to Raenilar, "To be blunt, the remainder of your tribes to the north."

Raenilar says, "Indeed. But I wonder what the historians might say of such an ill-advised march into the wastelands for the Baron to undertake."

Gyfford says with a shrug, "Your old ones your women your children..."

Raenilar says, "Ah! The Paladin in you shines through, Baron. A sterling example, indeed."

Mairdaen's gaze flickers rapidly from Gyfford to Vorclaf.

Gyfford says, "This baron will dare it."

Raenilar says, "Allow me to make it simple for you, then."

Shaheyra steps back quietly, bowing slightly from the waist. At a distracted nod from Vorclaf she steps out of the room.

Gyfford says, "You sir have no room to talk."

Raenilar says, "Do so, and I will grant you a fate the late Ferdahl would have been pleased to have." Raenilar fixes Gyfford with a serene, lofty stare.

Gyfford says, "You may try sir. As the bonfires burn." He smile right at Raenilar.

Getalva murmurs, "Posturing. Words." He shakes his head with a light sigh.

Fayne leans over respectfully and whispers a few hushed tones to Morganae.

Yhaman dryly says to Raenilar, "Aman, his people would probably perish in the deserts without assistance from our peoples. Heed his words none."

Gyfford says, "Conceed the Three and I will turn from what I am urged to do." Gyfford smiles at Yhaman. Gyfford says, "My border lords know your desert. Fret not." and Gyfford leans back.

Vorclaf says to Raenilar, "You see? Your cycle of vengence is not yours alone to covet."

Raenilar says, "On this, I shall listen to Yhaman, tho his words rarely are ones appropriate for these discussions. Baron, I politely invite you to follow into the desert until your heart is content." Raenilar pointedly ignores Gyfford.

Gyfford says, "On your head sir be those deaths."

Yhaman nods to Gyfford.

Gyfford shrugs.

Yhaman says to Gyfford, "And when you return, perhaps my cullings will be to your liking."

Gyfford fixes Yhaman with a frank, even stare.

Wyren quietly says to Jomay, "I really don't like the desert."

Gyfford leans back and whispers to Bilgrath.

Raenilar says to Vorclaf, "You'd do well to follow my advice earlier, and silence your own 'allies' if you wish any progress."

Bilgrath nods to Gyfford, "It will be done." Gyfford nods to Bilgrath.

Vorclaf says to Raenilar, "We are getting nowhere. Demonstrate your nobility by releasing the Three from any further harm and we can proceed further. And as for the Baron, he has his own will and strength, as do the people of Ilithi, and that will not be silenced."

Gyfford smiles at Vorclaf.

Jomay says to Vorclaf, "They will cower in fear and be silenced. I have seen empires rise and fall, yours is nothing compared to those great times."

Vorclaf turns to Jomay and says, "Stuff it."

Raenilar says, "I believe 'nobility' has firmly thrown itself through the door." Raenilar glances at Gyfford.

Wyren places his face in his hand and slowly shakes his head.

Eluresturi hisses to Jomay, "Be silent, you mad creature. Honorless, faithless, empty of spirit and heart, be still."

Wyren looks around for the nearest exit.

Raenilar says, "Apparently, we have both chosen some poor allies." He smiles at Vorclaf.

Kulainik fixes Raenilar with a calm, clear stare.

Edenlaen smiles at Eluresturi.

Vorclaf asks Raenilar, "Oh I have confidence in mine. I put my lives in the hands of Zoluren, Ilithi and Therengia. Can you say the same for yours?"

Gyfford smiles, "And the gypsy part of your plan rots in my prison."

Wyren turns to Raenilar and gives a wide grin.

Raenilar nods to Wyren.

Bilgrath snorts, loudly and nods to Gyfford.

Jomay says to Wyren, "Yes dearie, you are good boy."

Raenilar says, "You might say that, Prince. And your zealous Baron may wish to realize who else sits in whose prisons. Some are ... far more dear to us than... others."

You have yet to present anything to this table of worth." Gyfford nods to Vorclaf, "Just so."

Yhaman says to Raenilar, "I told you they had no honor to abide by their own words." Ruinyk sighs, shaking his head.

Raenilar casually observes the area.

Mairdaen says nothing, his expression continuing thoughtful.

Raenilar says, "I'd offer parting words, but their own foolishness and arrogance speaks well enough for them."

Aftermath

The results of the Outcast War have left a number of emotional scars in the players and GMs of DragonRealms. It was one of the major causes of the leaving of several prominant GMs of the time, as well as contributing to the leaving of an unknown number of players.

Even over ten years later, some current GMs still admit to having lingering resentments over the affair.
