Typically from saltwater clams or bivalve mollusks. Scallop shells are brightly colored, symmetrical, fan-shaped with radiating and often fluted ornamentation.
Though scallop (animal) do occasionally produce pearls, scallop pearls do not have a buildup of nacre and usually lack both lustre and iridescence. Their pearls can be dull, small, and vary in color.
