Background
Saeryal spent her childhood and early adolescence in Sunfall Hub, one of the last remaining Prydaen villages nestled high in the mountains of Sorrow’s Reach. Life there was quiet but never dull: steep trails, whispering pines, and the ever‑present scent of charred wood from old battles shaped her earliest memories. The Hub’s isolation meant that every Prydaen mattered. Saeryal grew up surrounded by a tight‑knit community that valued instinct, balance, and the old ways. She was known as a bright, affectionate kit who often lingered near the healers’ tents. She was fascinated by the way Empaths soothed pain with touch and presence rather than claws or steel.
Under the watchful leadership of Darkali Swiftclaws, the Hub maintained a delicate harmony between tradition and survival. Saeryal admired Darkali’s strength but was more drawn to the quiet caretakers who tended the wounded and mediated disputes. Her natural warmth made her a favorite among the elders, who often sent her to deliver herbs, messages, or comfort to those recovering from hunts or mountain mishaps. It was during these small acts of service that her empathic sensitivity began to surface. She felt others’ emotions like shifts in the wind; sometimes overwhelming, sometimes illuminating.
By seventeen, Saeryal’s gifts had grown too strong to ignore. The Hub’s healers gently urged her to seek formal training beyond the mountains, knowing that the Empath Guild in Crossing could teach her what Sunfall could not. Leaving home was bittersweet; she loved her people fiercely, but the call to heal was stronger. With a juniper silk chmir gifted by her mother and a raaho blessed at the Prydaen altar, she descended the winding trails toward Kaerna Village and beyond. Sunfall Hub had shaped her heart; Crossing would shape her purpose.
