Area Descriptions

[Rossgallan Keep, Jousting Field]
Arranged in quadrants, the jousting field features a list along the eastern fence for those who wish to compete against each other. To the south, quintains permit the solitary knight to work against a target, while to the west, an obstacle course is laid out to train horses and young squires together.

Hard packed soil, covered with a layer of sawdust, is laid out with a list down the middle for jousting practice. Though raked at frequent intervals, the passage of horse hooves churns the sawdust to reveal the compressed red soil beneath.
You also see a hitching post, a rack with a couple of things on it and a soft gold jacquard cloth with several things on it.
Obvious paths: west.

  • This area will periodically have a Picnic basket of food available

[Rossgallan Keep, Jousting Field]
A straight run down the grassy jousting field ends at a quintain, a barrel shaped dummy mounted on a wooden pole. The object is to attempt to strike the quintain's target with a lance -- too low or too high, and the quintain will pivot on its pole, striking the rider. Local knights require a well trained horse and long hours of practice to be able to hit the target without receiving a painful buffet in return.
You also see a hitching post.
Obvious paths: north.

[Rossgallan Keep, Jousting Field]
Thick grass over packed earth makes an easy surface for the horses which run the obstacle course. A brick wall separates this area from a more challenging course to the south.
You also see a squat barrel, a low hedge marking the start of a water hazard, a red-marked course, a triple-rail fence and the paddock entrance.
Obvious paths: east.
