The Redeemed are designed along the vein as permanent-shocked Empaths, unclean Clerics, or dark Paladins; it's a fallen state that is not meant to be viable. One of the ironies of Necromancers is they can fall up.

In the more meta sense, the Redeemed are an intended answer to the drive some people will have to create and roleplay "good guy" Necromancers and emphasize their damnation by encouraging most characters to consciously choose to avoid redemption. Here is what a "white Necromancer" looks like; if you're unwilling to accept the price, your character clearly doesn't have his heart in it after all.
