Look: | The glass witch balls have shiny surfaces that insure good luck by warding off evil spirts, confusing them with their own images seen in the mirror-like glass. Alleged Magical Properties
It has long been rumored that witch balls increase charisma, and this mistaken belief once drove demand for them through the roof. However, witch balls are just fluff items that ring when tapped.
The item's LOOK has given rise to a superstition that it is bad luck to sell a witch ball. However, selling the item does not actually cause any negative effects to the parties involved. The story is the originial balls were a GM's gift during an event back in the ancient ages of DragonRealms, and he/she did not want them "demeaned" by becoming a commodity, thus the description.
