peculiar sungold firefly with glimmering stripes
Look: The bright beetle has an oddly quirked, shield-like head with a pair of wiry antennae. Oxidized stripes along the elytra darken the warm gold's hints of rose, orange, purple, and blue, the sunset tones encroaching upon shades of twilight. The stiff wing cases protect thin, topaz hindwings, their soft bronze hue deeper along carved veins. Nestled below the thin wings, gleaming sungold braces a gaethzen abdomen. Tiny gears and links articulating the insect's body are just barely visible from below.

Verbs

  • STUDY: As you study the firefly, you think you could probably rub, push, pull, turn, wear, remove and toss it.
  • RUB: You surreptitiously brush a small lever below the sungold firefly and it stirs to a semblance of life. It tilts its broad head curiously before zipping away with whirring wings, a blur of warm light. Seeming to run out of energy, the insect darts back to you and settles.
  • PUSH: You gently push a minuscule button on the sungold firefly and it takes to flight, circling around your head in a gleaming blur and leaving a glowing trail for a bare moment. When it lands again, it flutters its wing case shyly, hiding fragile wings.
  • PULL: Moving subtly, you tilt the sungold firefly, causing an internal gear to catch. After a moment, the insect lifts off and hovers by your head like a bright earring, its glowing aura visible at the edge of your vision. With an aimless, swaying bob, the mechanical creature drifts back to you and stills, concealing its glowing abdomen.
  • TURN: You twist a small gear underneath the sungold firefly, causing it to raise its wings, both the stiff sungold casing and the delicate gemstone pair beneath, to reveal its gaethzen abdomen. Flashing a frenetic light display, the sungold firefly holds the pose in perfect stillness. Then it carefully folds its topaz wings under solid gold and returns to rest.
  • WEAR: As you set the sungold firefly against your shoulder, the legs grip tightly to you, holding it in place. Its antennae brush against you and give one contented twitch.
  • REMOVE: The sungold firefly's legs release their grip upon you, allowing you to pull the mechanical creature free.
  • TOSS (when not worn): You toss your sungold firefly up into the air, trusting its mechanical reactions. The insect immediately spreads its wings, showcasing a milky but unlit gaethzen abdomen. Tiny legs fidget and its head tilts down, antennae quirking in worried confusion. It gives its abdomen a decisive shake and the light finally pops on, causing the arthropod to twirl in happy circles around you before gliding back to your cupped hands.
