Look: Tiny skeins of black in the white coral appear like hairline fractures in a bone. Left otherwise unadorned, the coral pieces have been shaped and fitted together to give a macabre appearance like that of the sutures in a skull. The gorget's rigid structure forces what appears to be an uncomfortable posture, by elevating the chin and thereby elongating the silhouette of the neck.
