The Gear Gate

Raven's Point's Gear Gate opens only during the day time. It is well manned by dwarven warriors. Threats crossing the mountains from the south, particularly Dragon Priests must pass this gate to penetrate deeper into Forfedhdar.

Description

Formed from a maze of interlocking sprockets and cogs, the massive circular gate has been shaped into the appearance of an enormous gear. Spanning the length of the canyon, the area has been carefully crafted to slide seamlessly into the surrounding black rock walls. Broad square teeth, carved into the outer edge of the circular gate, rotate clockwise and counterclockwise along rows of slats carved into the frozen ground of the canyon floor. Massive lengths of chain that drive the gear gate have been wound around several sprockets set into the walls that surround the gear gate, their trembling links plunging into holes cut into the black rock of the canyon. The immense gate rests in the closed position, sealing any passage through the icy valley.
