First introduced during Hollow Eve Festival 458. These are a type of anthill garnet.
Although superficially similar to cinderstones, broodstones change temperature much more slowly. Rather than merely retaining warmth, they absorb excess heat during hotter periods and release it gradually as the surrounding soil cools, moderating temperature fluctuations within the nest.
Workers recognize this property and deliberately separate broodstones from ordinary excavation debris. They are most commonly found in chambers containing eggs and larvae, where the stones help maintain a more stable microclimate for the developing brood.
Broodstones are typically a rich orange-red and possess a steady internal radiance that becomes more pronounced when warmed. Their association with the colony’s young gives them their name.
Cultural Associations
Because broodstones moderate extremes without eliminating them, they symbolize moderation and compromise. Given as wedding gifts, they express the hope that a relationship will endure shocks and extremes without losing its balance. A broodstone may also be offered after a quarrel as a gesture of reconciliation, signifying a desire to restore equilibrium without pretending the conflict never occurred.
Common Description
Clear orange-red hues suffuse the stone beneath a soft, steady radiance. The color deepens toward its center, where the glow gathers most strongly and resembles banked heat suspended within the crystal.
