Ballista

The ballista is a siege weapon consisting of a large crossbow type mechanism mounted on a wheeled platform. The common Zoluren design is a tri-bolt ballista that is capable of being dragged. It can be pushed or pulled to face the proper direction for shooting. It is designed to be loaded with trios of large bolts, once its crank is turned far enough to winch the wire-and-sinew cable back into its latched position. The frame is built of sturdy wood, fastened with steel pins. The fireing cables wear out frequently and have to be replaced by holding a cable and REPAIRing the ballista from a nearby barrel. Besides the barrel will be a crate of ammunition containing a trio of bolts.

[TURN the ballista to draw back the firing cable. PUSH and PULL the ballista to pivot it to face different directions. AIM and FIRE ballista AT TARGET/DIRECTION to aim and fire it. Aiming the ballista at a target will first check its current area, then the nearby area in the direction the ballista is pointed. Aiming the ballista AT DIRECTION will aim it two movements away in the direction it is pointed, but not at a specific target in that area.]

There are ballistas in operation on Ratha and just outside of Wolf Clan in cougars.
