They understand how to use astronomical parallax and have a decent idea how far away and big the stars are (see: {{PRel|Moon Mage Enchanting|enchanting}} sigils), though they are likely confused about the stars' composition (see: {{PRel|Starlight Sphere}} spell).

It's debatable how far this knowledge has spread outside the astrological community, particularly given the intensely active and mythological-minded religion in the provinces. It's reasonable that a layman could run around still thinking that the stars are Phelim's pixie dust.
