Divination prism

Favored by the Monks of the Crystal Hand, the prism is a divination tool used by Moon Mages. As the prism spins on its chain, the mage interprets the patterns of colors and fractures to determine what the future holds. It is fitting that a group devoted to perfection and the identification of personal flaws would excel at predicting what is to come by studying how such colors and fractures echo from the hidden flaws of the crystal.

Use

A prism's readings are fairly precise, and the prisms themselves have a long lifespan, however, getting a skill reading is impossible without a chart, and the prism can only be used on oneself. As with any other tool, you must have the ALIGN ability, and must make a successful observation before you can predict. When you are prepared, TURN your prism to wind the chain around it, and then RAISE it to catch the light and unwind.

When Used

Raising it to catch the available light, you release the prism, allowing it to spin freely from the chain. You focus your sight on the prism as it spins, casting light violet tinged light as it moves in a small, uneven spiral then cracks into a random series of fractures. As the sapphire prism swings to a halt you notice the cracks go smooth and feel a fleeting moment of joy.

Possible Interpretations

To interpret a prism prediction:

  1. First examine the color of light that passes through it, as this will tell you the power. Like the basic light spectrum, violet light is cold and therefore weak, while red light is hot and therefore strong.
  2. The duration is determined by the way the prism spins. The wider the course of the spinning prism, the longer the prediction will last, and the tighter the spiral, the shorter it will be.
  3. The skill is described in the fractures you will see.
  4. The feeling of joy or sorrow tells you whether it is a blessing or a curse, respectively.
