The Assay Office looks like a contractor's storeroom: scaffolding, loose timbers, planks, and tools lie everywhere, as carpenters and plasterers work away. Behind a tin-topped counter stands the assay clerk, who is adjusting the beam of the smallest of three graduated scales.
You also see a sign, a large map mounted on the wall and a wooden bench.
