This Chris' Mass, show off your sculpting skills with ice carving, an activity available in the Forest Clearing of the Chris' Mass area.

Necessary Tools

To carve the ice sculpture of your dreams, you will need a mallet, chisel and pick. All three are available at the Chris' Mass Shop, east.

How to Carve

Select the right block size based on the shape you want to carve (see the list of Sculpture Shapes below). PULL a block from the appropriate pile (STACK for a small block, PILE for a medium, HEAP for a large, and MOUND for a huge).

Before you begin carving, you can PUSH block to shove it in a random available direction. Once you start shaping, you will be unable to move your sculpture, so choose wisely.

First, select the shape you want to carve with TAP BLOCK. Once your shape is set correctly, start with a mallet in your left hand and a chisel in your right and SHAPE BLOCK. From there on out, you will SHAPE <sculpture shape>. For example, if you are shaping an alfar, use SHAPE ALFAR. The number of shapes required depends on the size of your sculpture (3 for small, 7 for medium, 12 for large, or 20 for huge).

When you see "After careful observation, you decide the <shape> looks like it's been chiseled enough. Time for the pick!" swap your chisel for a pick (still in your right hand) and continuing with SHAPE <sculpture shape>. Again, the number of shapes to finish varies based on sculpture time (5 for small, 8 for medium, 10 for large, or 9 for huge - yes, huge takes one less than large).

Once completed, you can LOOK at your completed work: Masterfully carved, the <sculpture shape> is an elegant work of fine art, with many details that make it seem very realistic.

To destroy your sculpture, either while in the middle of shaping or once completed, use TILT <sculpture shape>.

Shaping Messages, With Chisel

Carefully tapping the hammer against the chisel you slice away a large corner piece.
Concentrating deeply, you gently tap the chisel with your hammer, and several clumps of ice break away, forming the jagged outline of your creation.
Several large chunks of ice fall to the ground as you cut through the <shape>, leaving behind a clearer outline. Making progress!
Slowly tapping the butt of the chisel with your hammer, it shears at the smooth surface, and you slice a good portion of ice from the <shape>. Looking good!

Shaping Messages, With Pick

Bending over the carving, you gingerly pick out a shallow crevice. Now you are making progress!
Focusing on one section of the ice <shape>, you repeatedly pick away at some of the finer details of the carving.
With a steady "Rap, Rap!" you wield the pick tenaciously and shape a smooth ridge. That's more like it!
