Origami is the art of paper folding. In Elanthia, it is a pastime that also allows one to learn a bit of mechanical lore and scholarship. The ability to understand and STUDY specific origami instructions and complete the first fold relies on scholarship skill and intelligence. Being able to complete each consecutive fold and finish the piece depends upon agility as well as prowess in mechanical lore.

Finished designs can either be discarded or kept in origami cases which can be purchased along with other supplies at origami shops.

Getting Started

To start out, you need some type of instructions and paper. There are many different patterns to choose from, in a range of difficulties.

There are different colors of paper as well as plain paper, which is cheapest. You can purchase individual sheets of paper or buy in bulk. Bulk paper is sold in envelopes and are very handy. You can wear the envelope or hold it in your hand and PULL ENVELOPE to get one sheet of paper. Envelopes come filled with 10, 25, 50 and 100 sheets of paper, plain and multi-colored (random color with each pull).

Excerpt from an origami primer:

Origami is the ancient art of paper folding. By using this
technique, and finely made, carefully cut and squared paper, one can
learn to make all manner of delightful things.

The recommended procedure is to choose a piece of origami paper,
then look over the instructions. Read them through to get some idea
of how difficult the project will be. It is not recommended that
beginners attempt the more difficult projects, as this results only
in frustration and the waste of good paper.

When you have decided upon a project, study the instructions
carefully, and begin to fold the paper. Continue folding until the
project is completed, or until you have made a mistake; if a mistake
is made, the only recourse is to discard the ruined paper and try
again.
