Description: The Caiman Swim spell mimics the abilities of its namesake, invoking the wilds to infuse the target with improved swimming skill. With higher levels of skill, the caster can also hold his breath as if he were a caiman. You may also notice that if cast in marshlands, swampy areas, or other wet places, it is more effective.
Effect: Unknown
Example Messaging: Cool waves of force shiver down your legs and through your arms, coursing through your body like some force of nature. A sudden sensation of buoyancy and supple strength follows.

Your lungs feel oddly wet and moist.

<Person> shivers forcefully, as if from a cold wind.

With a shiver, you feel a power drain from your life and your limbs. You feel less confident about your swimming abilities. Your lungs suddenly feel drier as you notice your ability to breathe underwater fade.

Devices/Tattoos: No devices or tattoos documented.

Notes

  • Maximum duration when cast on dry land is 20 minutes.
  • Maximum duration when cast in water is 22 minutes.
  • The spell is more effective if it is cast in water, all else being equal, both the duration and in the rank boost bestowed.
  • When this spell is in effect, it prevents the character from becoming wet. This protection does not extend to instruments and other items that are affected by water.
  • In addition to boosting swimming skill the spell has a secondary effect of allowing those under its influence to breath underwater. This effect is dependant on the Primary Magic skill of the caster, and begins to occur ~100 ranks. The bolded message above indicates it will be seen only when the water-breathing effect is achieved.
  • CAIS helps greatly with learning swimming by increasing swimming skill ranks, which makes harder swims possible as well as reducing the roundtime for swims you can already achieve.
