Weapon Forging Templates

What kind of syntax would you suggest for weapon templates? Multiple weapon types use the same template, and it would make sense to link them all together and not make them dependent on the name. Let me know what you think works best so I can start flowing in data. —TEVESHSZAT 19:04, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

...I'm going to have to think about that. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 19:10, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

Alrighty. Just let me know whatever system you prefer. I was thinking something like Weapon:Forged_TYPE_PRIMARYDAMAGE_SUITED_VOLUME could possibly work. So, for example, the template used by the Briquet/Dagger/Misericorde would be Weapon:Forged_le_puncture_balance_2. There might be some times we'd have to do something like an _(1) or _(2) for some templates, but I don't think it would be too terrible. —TEVESHSZAT 21:05, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

Okay, set it up like this Weapon:Forged <template>
The template can be your choice of whichever of them you like, but also mention in the article it covers the other templates, and set up redirects. We'll try that for now. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 21:11, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

Template:ItemProperties

I would like item pages to say, "This item's type is unknown" when the type field is blank. --Isharon 22:05, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

While in theory I could add it, it would just about double the size of the template, and double the amount of work it would take with each update. So.... no. :P -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:21, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Forum Post Properties

For some reason, when I tag a post as being about "PvP," it doesn't list that under the "Facts about" section. However, if I go to the PvP article, the post is archived there. --Isharon 19:13, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

That is bizarre. And I can't figure out why. sigh -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 07:41, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

New Forum Posts

Now that the Play.net forum has been moved, what do you want to do with the Forum field? Previously, we placed the board number after the category and topic, but the forum no longer uses numbers. Should we just omit the numbers from now on (for example, Discussions with DragonRealms Staff and Players \ Game Master and Official Announcements? --Isharon 18:56, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

Also, the date format on new posts is a bit different. There are now zeroes before single-digit times (for example, "06/01/2011 05:42 PM CDT"). ----Isharon 19:09, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
Eh, omit the forum folder numbers and just keep the times as the forum displays. Easier to copy and paste that way. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 23:13, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
It looks like the forum post time no longer displays the second, so it is theoretically possible (though unlikely in practice) for two different posts to have the exact same page name. --Isharon 06:48, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Mining

Two things: could you remove my BOT status? I haven't really had the chance to move much DFP stuff recently, been busy for a while. Also, what is spoiler-ish about the mining section? Would it be possible to just move the spoilers to a secondary article? --Leito 01:38, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Sure.
It's spoiler-ish, because I put the page up right when mining came out. It was a warning to people who wanted to PAFO. I'll remove it in a couple more days. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 01:44, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Guildfest 401

Would you mind adding Guildfest 401 to the "Improvement Drive" section of the home page? Thanks!----Isharon 08:54, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

The current drive section lists "Guildfest 401" in May 2010. This should be changed to May 2011. ----Isharon 17:30, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Template:ItemProperties

When you select "writing" as the item type, nothing appears in the completed item. I think it should say something like "This item is a writing implement or something that can be written on." --Isharon 05:59, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

Turns out that's cause I hadn't added support for it. Huh, I wonder why. Anyways, fixed. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 09:21, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Any way you could add something for "anatomy chart?" It's a listed property, but the completed item doesn't say what it is if you use it. See, e.g., Item:Silverfish anatomy chart. --Isharon 06:38, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
I could, but at this point, I'd actually be inclined to remove that option. It doesn't seem like they're variable enough in form to need to have their own tag. In fact, I suspect I might have removed it from the template and forgot to remove it from the form and property. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 07:07, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

I would like the item pages to say when an item cannot be worn. Thanks! (wearloc=-) ----Isharon 23:58, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Done. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 00:25, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

Post Form

I have no idea why, but every time I try to create or edit a post with the form, I get the following error: --Isharon 18:43, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/khodges/public_html/w/extensions/SemanticForms/includes/SF_FormPrinter.inc on line 291

Fixed. Oops. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 04:07, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Item Template: Read

It would be nice if there were a dedicated field for item reads. --Isharon 00:53, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

The default (-) value would be There is nothing there to read. --Isharon 00:53, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
It could be done, but that seems like it might just be another step to template overload. Do you really see a huge need for it? -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 04:14, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
It would just make it easier to generate forms (especially by script). --Isharon 04:39, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
Mmmmmm, lemmie see. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 04:41, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
(The main issue with my Elanthipedia Items script is that the look ends at the end of the line, and reads are on a separate line. I can't capture that with one regular expression.) --Isharon 04:50, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

Ampersands in Post Page Names

How should we handle post titles that contain the ampersand (&)? It seems to be cutting off everything after the ampersand. For example, Post:Crossbows & Tinkering - 4/30/2011 - 8:32:54. (See how it redirects from Post:Crossbows.) --Isharon 22:46, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

It has to do with the & being used as a control character by the wiki in addresses. If necessary, just replace it with "and." -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 00:00, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Shield Template Bug

The shield form is missing at least one value (incredible). Here is the shield appraisal scale:

  1. very poor
  2. poor
  3. rather low
  4. low
  5. fair
  6. better than fair
  7. moderate
  8. moderately good
  9. good
  10. very good
  11. high
  12. very high
  13. great
  14. very great
  15. impressive
  16. very impressive
  17. tremendous
  18. incredible
  19. god-like

--Isharon 22:28, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

Fixed. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:51, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
I see the option in the shield form, but on the finished shield page, it shows up as "Unknown protection." --Isharon 01:18, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
Okay, now it's fixed. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 07:41, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
Now "incredible" is showing up as "Tremendous (10/11) protection." (See above item.) --Isharon 08:07, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
No it doesn't. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 08:19, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
It's showing up as incredible now, but is there a reason that the Paladin-only values aren't considered part of the scale? Incredible should be 18/19, not 10/11. --Isharon 18:59, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
Because the vast majority of shields are not paladin appraised, and I want them to still be as accurate as possible when attempting comparisons. For example, if you tried to find all shields better or equal to a paladin level, it would miss many of the shields that were actually that, but not listed as such. Thus, the Paladin more specific appraisals are the same rank as the value a normal person (no, Paladin's aren't normal) would appraise it at. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 00:41, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Reference Tag Bug?

When I use the {{RefAl}} tag, something is wrong with the formatting. The "Related Forum Posts" and "Also See" sections are not recognized as headers. --Isharon 18:10, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

I know, and I've been trying to figure out why. Gimmie a bit. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:10, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Fixed. I know what I had to do to fix it, but I don't know why it had to be done. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 10:00, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Item Template: Fest Items

Does the item template still support the fest= tag, and should we be filling that out? It's not in the form when you click "create/edit with form." --Isharon 22:57, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Nope, it's superceded by the rare= tag. Thought, it technically will work, since I didn't want to have to track down the ones I'd tagged fest. I also, more or less meant it as an advanced option... though that doesn't seem so smart now that I think about it. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 09:20, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
If you still want us to flag things as rare (fest, auction, etc.), can you add a rare field to the "create/edit with form" option to the weapon, shield, armor, and item pages? (This field is useful if you're using the query pages.) I think that the main reason that it hasn't been added to more items is that people don't know that the information is requested. --Isharon 18:17, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Rareness is automatically populated for festival store weapons as long as the source store is set as a festival store. That field is reserved for odd source equipment, such as auctions or quest which the system doesn't understand. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:10, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Is rare automatically set to no for items whose source is set to a permanent shop? --Isharon 22:45, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
It SHOULD be, but I'm not sure if it is. I don't remember whether I figured out an easy way to do it. I'll check when I have a moment. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 22:49, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for catching my timestamp errors. (I know that midnight is hour 0, but for some reason I forgot when I posted the dragon posts.) --Isharon 05:47, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Spell Template

Can there be an option to designate something as a metaspell (for Magic 3.0)? --Isharon 08:09, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

On second thought, perhaps a separate metaspell template would be better.--Isharon 08:43, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Bug With Brawling Template

When the puncture/slice/impact type variable is set to No, the page looks like the puncture/slice/impact damage info is missing.

For example: Weapon:Gold elbow spikes

Appraisal:

You are certain that it could do:
no puncture damage increase
quite a bit of slice damage
quite a bit of impact damage

Form Values:

|puncture=none
|puncturetype=Yes
|slice=quite a bit
|slicetype=No
|impact=quite a bit
|impacttype=No

Page says:

Puncture: none

Slice: Unknown

Impact: Unknown

The "Facts about" item box at the bottom is also missing damage stats. --Isharon 00:36, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

Yea I know. The problem is that I can't set up the template till I have information on how they relate. Is "quite a bit" better or worse than "some?" -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 00:47, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
I've fixed it so it will display, but without more information on how brawling weapons compare, I can't do much more. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 01:57, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. Is there any way that the display could add (increase) when "the damage is the special brawling increase type"? For example:

Puncture: none (increase)

Slice: quite a bit

Impact: quite a bit

--Isharon 15:32, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

Sure. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 21:08, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

Whitelisting URLs (CAPTCHA Bypass)

Is there a way that certain URLs can be added to a whitelist so that contributors don't have to complete a CAPTCHA when these links are posted? Leito brought it to my attention that he has to go through CAPTCHA every time he adds the DFP tag. --Isharon 20:13, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Already on it. Having Callek look into it since I wouldn't really know where to start. It'll be a bit as he's stuck with RL stuff. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 21:08, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Leading Articles (Items)

Currently, a, an, and some are leading articles that are not included in page names or item names. However, other potential articles are not treated consistently. For example, in some items, "a pair of" and "a set of" are treated as leading articles, but in others they are not.

Do you have a full list of leading articles that should be excluded from page names? --Isharon 17:35, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

To be honest, I have no idea why people have decided to leave out the "pair of" etc, but I've been too lazy to do anything about it. On one hand, it is part of the item, but on the other hand, it doesn't add much to the info.
What's your opinion? -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 19:11, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
Ignoring the amount of work that it would require to make all of these items consistent, I would only count a, an, and some as leading articles. Phrases like "a pair of" are not articles (grammatically speaking); they're quantities. Unless we exclude all "leading quantities" from page names, we'd have to decide which to include and which to exclude, and that would breed inconsistency.
It seems that more of the items that I've looked at omit "pair of" and "set of" than include those terms, so it would be more work to add those terms than remove them. Another issue is that many of the store pages also omit these articles, so it may not be immediately obvious which pages need to be edited. --Isharon 20:27, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
I agree, include them from now on, and I'll work on updating the old ones where possible. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 20:28, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
Most of that would be from me, based of this post. Category talk:Items#Pairs and Sets?. If memory serves, it was a decision to the achieve the same effect as the List field.-Glimmereyes 21:40, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
Huh, before my time. Interesting. Well, it'll make linking easier... probably. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 21:49, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

Favicon

Just an FYI, the FAVICON.ICO for elanthipedia doesn't appear to be working in any browser. (Chrome, FF, IE). Possibly missing.

... I don't actually know what that means. -Moderator Caraamon Makdasi(talk) 03:57, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
It's the icon that appears in the browser for the page/bookmarks for example, the greyish sphere for play.net page, the facebook "f" icon, etc. It looks like Elanthipedia's is missing (it should be at http://elanthipedia.com/favicon.ico according to the source, but it doesn't appear to be there.) I'm not sure you guys have looked at it at all or anything, but for a few months, I've noticed that the Favicons for elanthipdia, the Theren Guard page, and Ranik Maps(Which is just a quick link to the maps on here) haven't been working on either Chrome or Firefox. It's only in the bookmarks bar, because on the URL I can see it just fine. "Stand Like a Rokk" 19:55, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
