Sleep command
| Toggle your character through light sleep and deep sleep. In light sleep you stop gaining new field experience but your pools keep draining into ranks; in deep sleep you neither gain nor drain, and you accumulate rested experience instead. |
| SLEEP (awake to light sleep) You see: You relax and allow your mind to enter a state of rest. SLEEP (light sleep to deep sleep) SLEEP (deep sleep back to awake) |
Syntax
- SLEEP
- Advance one step around the sleep cycle: awake to light sleep, light sleep to deep sleep, deep sleep back to awake.
- SLEEP HELP
- Display the in-game helpfile describing the command and your current sleep status.
AWAKEN leaves either sleep state and returns you to normal experience gain and drain.
Sleep States
The command cycles through three states.[1]
| State | Gains new experience? | Drains pools into ranks? | Rested experience |
|---|---|---|---|
| Awake | Yes | Yes | Spent while draining |
| Light sleep (SLEEP once) | No | Yes | Spent while draining |
| Deep sleep (SLEEP twice) | No | No | Accumulates |
Light sleep is the older behavior: new field experience stops coming in, but anything already sitting in your pools keeps converting to ranks at the normal rate, and rested experience is consumed while it does.
Deep sleep halts conversion entirely. Because nothing is draining, your rested experience pool begins refilling after five consecutive minutes, the same way it does while you are logged out.
Entering SLEEP a third time wakes you, so a script or macro that sends the command blindly can cycle you out of sleep rather than deeper into it.
Notes
- Nobody else in the room sees anything when you use the command.
- EXP reports your sleep status. To yourself it shows You are relaxed and your mind has entered a state of rest. To wake up and start learning again, type: AWAKEN; to someone appraising your experience it shows <Name> is relaxed and <his/her> mind has entered a state of rest.
- The experience window's sleep component carries the same text in light and deep sleep, so it cannot be used to tell the two apart.
- Sleep mode is named in the scripting policy, which prohibits gaining any benefit, for yourself or for another character, while you are unresponsive to the gaming environment. A script run while you are in sleep mode and are gaining no new experience, skills or money, and are giving no other character an in-game advantage, is listed among that policy's exceptions. Stopping experience gain is therefore necessary but not sufficient: sleeping does not cover an unattended character that is still earning coin, providing services, or buffing others.
