Lob command
| Lobs a held weapon at a creature or player. LOB is a fast, lightly damaging attack that never lodges the weapon. |
| LOB <target> You see: <Opening description>, you lob <weapon> at <target>. <Target> <defense result>. <Weapon> lands <hit result>. LOB (weapon does not lodge) LOB (no weapon selected) LOB <weapon> AT <target> (weapon is not held) |
The LOB command is one of the three standard thrown-weapon attacks. Unlike THROW and HURL, it never lodges the thrown weapon in its target. LOB is the quickest and least accurate of the three. THROW is intermediate, while HURL favors damage and accuracy at the cost of longer roundtime.

Game Helpfile
The LOB verb allows you to lob items and is primarily used in combat. Syntax: LOB - will default to the creature currently being faced LOB <ITEM> AT <TARGET> Related (combat) verbs: ATTACK, THRUST, LUNGE, SLICE, SWING, CHOP, BASH SWEEP, JAB, DRAW, SLAM, PUMMEL, PUNCH, CLAW, GOUGE, KICK, KNEE, ELBOW SLAP, BITE, BUTT and MANEUVER
Use
The item selected for the attack must be held and suitable for throwing. Dedicated Light Thrown and Heavy Thrown weapons are best suited to the attack, but many other weapons and objects can be thrown as improvised weapons. Trying to lob an ordinary room object instead of a creature or player is refused.
LOB can attack from either hand. The right hand is used by default; add LEFT immediately after the command to use the left hand and train Offhand Weapon skill along with the applicable thrown-weapon skill.
The attack itself produces variable combat text for its opening description, defense result, hit, balance and position. A completed attack also produces a bracketed [Roundtime <n> sec.] line. Its roundtime depends on the weapon and current combat effects.
Failure Messages
- What are you trying to lob? — no weapon was selected.
- At what are you trying to lob your <weapon>? — no valid target was selected.
- You need a free hand to lob the <weapon>. — a two-handed weapon cannot be used because both hands are occupied.
- You must hold the <weapon> in order to lob it. — the named weapon is not in either hand.
- The <weapon> is stuck to your hand like glue. — the weapon is cursed and cannot be released.
- Perhaps you should find a suitable throwing weapon first. — the held item cannot be used as a thrown or improvised weapon.
- That would be a neat trick. — the weapon was also named as the target.
- Attacking an object? — the selected target is an ordinary object rather than a creature or player.
- You want to hit yourself in the foot? — you named yourself as the target.
- Oddly, some sort of resistance prevents you from attacking <target>. — the target cannot currently be attacked.
