Item Catagory?

Having done some major work on items, it occurs to me that some of the searching and name issues (such as those juggling items called "wolf spiders") could be solved by having a dedicated category for items. Any thoughts? -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 17:11, 3 June 2008 (CDT)

Veyne

You might want to take a peek at this. I may have overstepped my authority, but this looks like a problem just waiting to happen. I couldn't find any precedent on it, so I thought I should lock it till it could be discussed.-Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 03:58, 8 June 2008 (CDT)

Forms

I've done everything I can with the knowledge I have of forms right now. Where can I find more info? I can't seem to find anything. -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 19:39, 11 June 2008 (CDT)

Semantic Forms --Naeya (talk) 20:07, 11 June 2008 (CDT)

Major Changes

I'd like permission to do two things: 1) Move all items to Item/Armor/Shield/Weapon namespaces (I'll take care of the work and links) and 2) Implimenting semantic wiki "tagging" via templates. The sooner you get back to me, the better. I've got a week till I start working IRL. -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 04:48, 12 June 2008 (CDT)

Hmm ok, so you want four new namespaces created: Item, Armor, Shield and Weapon (which I'll have to do via the server). I'll also need to get the server admin to run a few maintenance scripts on it after we've made those.--Naeya (talk) 09:38, 12 June 2008 (CDT)
Done.--Naeya (talk) 17:13, 12 June 2008 (CDT)
The semantic wiki stuff doesn't seem to be functioning in anything in the new namespaces. Any clue? -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 23:42, 12 June 2008 (CDT)
No idea. How exactly aren't they funcitoning? Might needta read up on Semantic MediaWiki when using custom namespaces (IE you will since you're neck deep in this stuff atm) Then let me know what changes I need to make. Sorry to kinda leave you high and dry but I don't have time to get embroiled in that stuff atm due to RL.--Naeya (talk) 09:04, 13 June 2008 (CDT)

Possible Fix for Semantic Failure and Question

I ran across this in the admin docs, it may be what's wrong:

(3) Perhaps Adjust namespaces. Semantic MediaWiki uses six additional custom namespaces. By default their indices start at 100. If you have added your own custom namespaces, then
you have to set the variable $smwgNamespaceIndex in LocalSettings.php before including SMW_Settings.php. See the documentation in SMW_Settings.php for details. If you add more
namespaces later on, then you have to assign them to higher index numbers than those used by Semantic MediaWiki.

Semantic MediaWiki only evaluates semantic annotations in some namespaces. For example, by default it ignores semantic annotations in talk pages. If you want to change the
namespaces with annotations (likely if you have added your own custom namespaces), then you have to change the array variable $smwgNamespacesWithSemanticLinks in SMW_Settings.php.

There also seems to be an issue with the semantic search. Since you didn't mention it so far, I wanted to make sure that it was enabled, linked, tuned, polished, put up on blocks, and properly licensed with the appropriate government organizations, before I started complaining about doom and server failure. -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 14:56, 13 June 2008 (CDT)

Well I started the indices at 108 (after the last namespace added "Form - 107"), so I don't think it's an index problem. I'll hafta look into semantic search in a bit I guess.--Naeya (talk) 15:09, 13 June 2008 (CDT)
Is the whole array variable doodad updated and paid for?-Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 15:28, 13 June 2008 (CDT)
The what?--Naeya (talk) 15:54, 13 June 2008 (CDT)
Check the second paragraph that I posted. It says something about changing the array variable $smwgNamespacesWithSemanticLinks in SMW_Settings.php if you want annotations to be active in new namespaces.-Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 16:13, 13 June 2008 (CDT)
Alright, I'll do that.--Naeya (talk) 16:25, 13 June 2008 (CDT)
BINGO! It's working. And that's why you're the boss.-Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 16:38, 13 June 2008 (CDT)
Nevermind, I'm an idiot and was looking in the wrong namespace.-Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 16:44, 13 June 2008 (CDT)
LOL I was fixin to say, I didn't do anything yet! So everything is peachy now?--Naeya (talk) 16:47, 13 June 2008 (CDT)
Nope. No change that I can see.-Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 17:13, 13 June 2008 (CDT)
I freely admit I have no real idea, but would this page help?-Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 18:18, 13 June 2008 (CDT)
I just read over our past conversations, and it looks like I was less than clear. No it's not working, I thought it was but I looked in the wrong namespace. See? Clear as an iron curtain.-Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 18:33, 13 June 2008 (CDT)
Okay.....here's something to make things even wierder. I did a search by property and successfully got 3 items out of the tons I should have gotten...but get this, two of them were in them Item namespace...... It looks like the issue may not be that it's not tracking the new namespaces but that it's just not showing the little factbox thing in them....I'm so confused!!!!-Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 18:38, 13 June 2008 (CDT)
You probably need to wait. The job-queue is pretty big as of my posting right now. Special:Statistics--Naeya (talk) 18:42, 13 June 2008 (CDT)
No dice. job-queue 0, still working only strangely.-Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 19:32, 13 June 2008 (CDT)

Can you show me exactly how to reproduce this problem? As I have no idea where to even begin to fix it now. Should we just nuke the namespaces and stick to the Main namespace?--Naeya (talk) 19:47, 13 June 2008 (CDT)

Okay, basically here's the symptoms: Items, when in the normal namespace, when edited acquire their proper Template defined semantic properties. They even retain these once moved. However, once moved, they no longer pick up new ones....despite having the exact same template that assigns semantic qualities in the exact same way. However, even if they propertly retain their semantic properties, the semantic overlay (the factbox at the bottom, any warning notes within the body, etc) fails to appear. So ya..... I'd just like to say for posterities sake, I blame you, President Nixon and the Orange Growers of America.....but I won't say for what. -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 20:00, 13 June 2008 (CDT)
LOL Well with all your fiddlings, you know more about Semantic MediaWiki than I do... hmm so I really don't know. Eep? Was there anything mentioned over at the SM site about this kinda of error?--Naeya (talk) 20:19, 13 June 2008 (CDT)
Okay, without having access to the code I'm somewhat limited in my guesses, but I ran across two other people having the same problem in their "forum." [[1]] and [[2]]. -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 17:25, 14 June 2008 (CDT)
Hey, Caraamon. I added all the custom namespaces to that SMW_Settings.php file. It seems that the fact boxes still aren't appearing on the other namespace pages though. And those links above for the other two people reporting problems. Does the semantic search work for the namespaces now though?--Naeya (talk) 19:17, 19 June 2008 (CDT)

Error Error, Weapon's Can't Talk!

We've got another issue, but HOPEFULLY this will be easy. Right now, the wiki thinks the Weapon namespace is the talk namespace for the Shield category. :P -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 20:00, 13 June 2008 (CDT)

Was a problem on my end, fixed now. You'll need to move those weapons back to the Weapon namespace (I moved them out, if I hadn't they'd have been lost).--Naeya (talk) 20:17, 13 June 2008 (CDT)
Hmmm, you might have bumped something while you were at it. When I attempt to edit using the weapon form I get the following response:
Catchable fatal error: Argument 1 passed to SMWDataValueFactory::getPropertyObjectTypeID() must be an instance of Title, null given, called
in /usr/home/elanthia/public_html/w/extensions/SemanticMediaWiki/includes/storage/SMW_SQLStore.php on line 225 and defined
 in /usr/home/elanthia/public_html/w/extensions/SemanticMediaWiki/includes/SMW_DataValueFactory.php on line 193
No idea what that means. -Caraamon Strugr-Makdasi(talk) 02:38, 15 June 2008 (CDT)
Neither do I, and no it wasn't something I did. Namespaces have nothing to do with the SMW extension files. I think we're both out of our depth with this. I'm sorry but I really don't have the time right now to mess with SMW.--Naeya (talk) 02:50, 15 June 2008 (CDT)

Confusion About Individual Anatomy Charts

Hey, I've been trying to set them up to say how much they cost, what scholarship they need, ect on each page and there's a blank template on the page but I'm having trouble filling it in. Is there somewhere on the site I can read up about this?

First off, please don't move all items out of the Item: namespace (which is what you're doing). I could understand it for the herbs (but they'll probably end up being moved back). However, they're called Item:Blah blah blah for a purpose. I'll have to take a look at those charts + the Item template and see what's in store. I'll ask Caraamon how he wants those handed, but yes, please stop redirecting Item: pages to a none Item: namespace page. I know you didn't know, but we're trying to keep all items with the Item: prefix.--Naeya (talk) 09:00, 27 June 2008 (CDT)

OK, please undo all the moves (if you can). If not, I'll do it for you. Then click on Edit with form above the article (to the left of the normal Edit tab). This is where you enter all your information, see how I did Item:Silver leucro anatomy chart for more info. --Naeya (talk) 09:05, 27 June 2008 (CDT)

Oh and I don't mean to sound harsh at all! I just woke up! :) To explain the above, we're in the middle of moving items TO the Item: prefix (called a namespace). So redirecting FROM that namespace wouldn't be good :) We've also set up Forms to help with item entry, so when you Edit with Form, it's much easier for those unfamiliar (and even those with some wiki knowledge as you say you are).--Naeya (talk) 09:16, 27 June 2008 (CDT)

Ok, I'll set them to redirect to the Item: (thing) entries if someone hasn't beaten me to it yet.--Zamara 17:34, 27 June 2008 (CDT)

You should be able to Move them, easier and it keeps all the history. --Naeya (talk) 17:43, 27 June 2008 (CDT)
Well I'm see on the one you did, if you search for anything under the Item: prefix they don't come up (I tried Silver Leucro chart) so I want to make them under the correct place, but those don't seem to be searchable, so I was going to use the old ones to redirect to the correct ones. I guess I'll move them and then make the old one, and have it redirect to the new one?--Zamara 18:04, 27 June 2008 (CDT)
I just did a search in the Item namespace and Silver Leucro anatomy chart came up just fine. All you have to do is MOVE them to the Item: namespace (ie click Move and type Item: in front of the name), and it will automatically make the old place a redirect. Basically saves you a step or two, AND retains the history. This is the preferred method. Does this make sense? .--Naeya (talk) 18:15, 27 June 2008 (CDT)
I'm gonna try it on a few of them, the search is working now, I dunno maybe I miss typed it before. --Zamara 18:23, 27 June 2008 (CDT)
