Truffenyi's Travels Journal
After The Sting of Truffenyi event, Mazilyn got the opportunity to ask Unaka about her idea to imbue an ox bead with connection to Truffenyi through tours of civilization.
Mazilyn says, "The imbuing the altar at the basalt isle took some clerics imbuing some teeth with their.. whatever the shark wants." Mazilyn says, "And it worked." Unaka nods to Mazilyn. Mazilyn says, "I was hoping something like that might be possible to do to channel Truffenyi in our attempt to help asildu." Mazilyn says, "But i donno how exactly she did it n i dont think sharks teeth are the right object." Unaka nods to Mazilyn. Mazilyn asks, "So i made som quarzite ox things as prototypes to maybe bless? or something?" Vythlak grunts at Mazilyn. Mazilyn says, "And i was askin if Truffenyi had any followups on if that could happen." Unaka nods to Mazilyn. Unaka says, "And if you're asking my opinion, well. I like the idea. It can't hurt! But more than that, it's a pretty creative way to get thinking about Truffenyi, and do something bigger for him." Ectheleon nods in agreement. Mazilyn says, "The teeth themselves were special though." Mazilyn gets a lustrous shark's tooth from inside her starfish pouch. Vythlak asks Mazilyn, "Do a tour of the various shrines and temples to Truffenyi and the places under his protection?" Mazilyn winces. Unaka says, "Gathering, praying, and sharing stories -- these are all good. The personal stories last time were extra good, if you ask me. But I keep feeling like you all could do bigger things too." Unaka says, "That's one thing that would be bigger." Unaka accepts Mazilyn's shark's tooth. Mazilyn says, "See." Couri nods to Unaka. Unaka says, "But, that said, I can't really say if that would help with Asildu." Mazilyn rubs her head. Mazilyn nods to Unaka. Unaka says, "But empowering Truffenyi is something that will surely help." Mazilyn stretches out a hand imploringly to Unaka. Unaka says, "Connecting with him, I think, will help him in some way." Unaka holds a lustrous shark's tooth in both hands and closes her eyes in concentration. Mazilyn accepts Unaka's shark's tooth.
So began the Travels of Truffenyi. Mazilyn took her Truffenyi doll to various places around the realms, documenting their travels and praying over her sketches.
Events
Beseeching Elanthia - Artifacts
[Ancient Tunnel, Null Chamber]
The stonework appears to spiral outward from a central point, a whorl of finely mortared masonry that radiates around the room and down the hallway. A short plinth terminates in a gentle bowl, which cradles a bronze bell. All sound is utterly blocked, the chamber burdened by a heavy, absolute silence.
A large crack runs along the seam of the once pristine bell, and the surface appears drab and somehow flat. Whatever happened to it has rendered it inert.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll examing the ruined bell. His face contorted in concentration as he traces the crack in the seam of the bell)
[Endrus Forest, Secluded Glade]
A score of ancient sana'ati trees stand like primeval guardians around this circular clearing, stretching their weathered boughs overhead in a protective canopy of scintillating green. Lush grass and blooming flowers surround a pool of clear water, bubbling upwards from an unknown source beneath the surface. You also see a small aqueous fissure, a stone bench, an overgrown footpath and a hole at the base of a large tree.
You see Primal Memory Keeper Asildu, Avenger of the Spires, a Herald-marked Scholar resembling no known mortal species. Asildu has a misshapen crag of a face, twisted with thick vines that cover barely-visible moss-green eyes. His nose is twisted and covered by spindly fibrous roots. A wreath of shoulder-length tangled overgrowth covers his head. His skin is encased in a tangle of twigs, vines, and moss that cling to rough-hewn stone features. Asildu is of middle-age for a Human. He is in good shape. He is wearing a carved jade dragon with gold-inset eyes, a cambrinth dragon charm, a linen tunic layered under a leather vest, a scholar's satchel, some amber linen pants and a pair of distressed leather shoes.
(Mazilyn makes a sketch of Asildu and her Truffenyi doll sitting next to the pool of water conversing like old friends)
Oasis
[Haizen Cugis, The Canopy]
A forest of heavy, burlap cloth hangs in thin strips from ceiling to sand floor, dyed the color of tree bark. Between the cross-woven supports overhead, many more folds of dark green fabric serve to resemble foliage, though not very convincingly. Amidst the artificial trees dwell several mannequins displaying the wares for sale, most of which stand out starkly from the distinctly non-native landscape. You also see a row of copper hooks with a couple of things on it and a spindly wire rack with a few things on it.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll with a bemused face as he sifts through the wares while the sunset-hued papillon puppy barks at the artificial trees in a sea of sand)
[Haizen Cugis, Ilerenz's Supplies]
Surprisingly sturdy walls of heavy burlap cloth hang from carved wooden beams down to the scuffed oak floor, making what would otherwise be a modest desert lean-to resemble a formal structure found in most any town. Within the confines of the room stand several tables and racks, proudly displaying the mottled assortment of goods available for purchase. You also see a tall display stand with a sand dune molded from cloudy yellow glass on it and Ilerenz.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll confering with Ilerenz about a blackened stone wrist knife decorated with a curved rainbow smear while her sunset-hued papillon puppy tugs on some twisted bundling rope)
[The Suncatcher]
The Suncatcher barge is made up of a wooden flatboat mounted atop steel rails. An elevated platform at the front of the craft is used by the team of Sand Elves that sail it through the desert ocean by controlling the team of massive yeehars that pull it. The barge itself is full of coils of rope, wooden crates and barrels, and bulging sackcloth. You also see a sunset-hued papillon puppy.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll poking at all the barge's workings, impressed by the craftsmanship and idea behind using the yeehars to pull it. Her sunset-hued papillon puppy sits with her paws up on the edge, tongue hanging out and flapping in the wind along with her ears)
Muspar'i
[Outside Muspar'i]
The dark, towering walls of Muspar'i look out over the desert sands beyond. As the harsh Velakan winds swoosh sand through the air, threatening to obliterate all in their path, the walls serve as a barrier protecting the merchant city. A bit to the south, along the walls, a ramp leads up to a metal platform, while a stone trail works its way through the sea of sand in a northeasterly direction. You also see a teak airship suspended from a segmented balloon, a metal ramp, the Great Gate of Muspar'i, a rocky trail and a sunbleached wooden siege tower.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll smiling at the wonders civilization comes up with as the airships go to and fro. Her sunset papillion puppy is in the background building a sandcastle that continuously falls down)
[Muspar'i, S'zella's Square]
A few benches and enthusiastic food vendors fill this square, which often serves as a gathering spot for the people of the city. To the east, the great boulevard of the Tuul Yamshuk Staho provides for every need of the city's newcomers and visitors. You also see a refreshment stand with several things on it.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll and her sunset-hued papillon puppy splitting a bowl of stewed prickly pears and a glass of cool cactus tea as they enjoy sightseeing in Muspar'i)
[World Dragon Temple, Main Chamber]
Polished obsidian walls supported by columns of purple quartz encircle the vast chamber where an overbearing stillness permeates the air. Rays of light filtering through the large stained glass dome high above bathe the massive altar in a profusion of refracted colors, adding to the serenity. Suspended beneath the circular balcony winding its way around the upper reaches of the chamber hangs a large tapestry. You also see a sunset-hued papillon puppy.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll silently appraising the praise to the World Dragon. Her sunset-hued papillon puppy nips at the bottom of the tapestry)
M'riss
[Fever Point, Village Inn]
From the size of the building, the inn, ironically named "The Lost Sailor's Refuge," was obviously a mainstay of the fishing village. A large picture window, now but a boarded-up frame, stares out at the street. Unlike other structures, the inn's front door has been sealed securely with lengths of rusty chain. You also see a weathered pier.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll and her sunset-hued papillon puppy exchanging a look that seems like they are wondering if they are Lost Sailors since the inn is obviously locked for them)
[Penal Colony, Northwest Ring Road]
In the Colony Fortress's South Wall, the stout oaken leaves of the Desert Gate stand shut tight. A lane leads from the gate downhill to where the Island Ring Road bypasses the colony, southwest to northeast. Aside from a large flat rock and a few scrubby patches of sea-oats, the area is barren. You also see a sunset-hued papillon puppy.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll inspecting the Colony Fortress, a sad acknowledgement of its necessity while reassuring the sunset-hued papillon puppy that she is a good girl and never needs to be locked up)
[Wishing Well Grove, The Well]
The community well, ringed by a low wall of mortared stones, stands at the east end of the Commons. Women fill their waterjars each morning and evening at this center of the grove's social life, chatting with each other and with the old folks sitting there, conveniently near an oaken bucket beaded with water.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll and her sunset-hued papillon puppy helping the women fill waterjars and engaging in the social exchanges)
Arthe Dale
[Arthe Dale, Willow Pond Pier]
Brightly painted low wooden chairs sit along the edge of the dock, allowing fishermen to relax as they cast their lines over the side in an attempt to lure the trout that lurk beneath the pilings. Towels lie scattered upon the wooden surface, evidently the property of swimmers cavorting in the pond's cool green waters.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll watching the swimmers play, the look of a proud father on his face. Her sunset-hued papillon puppy makes use of the slide and sends a wave of water towards the shore)
[Thipbeet's Tart Boutique, Fabulously Fruity]
Hung from the ceiling, decorative vines dangle painted wooden strawberries and tiny silk blossoms. Orange gingham cloths cover the counter and tables set up around the room, each surface piled high with pastries to tempt the palate. Despite the dirt floor, the area retains an aura of cleanliness and refinement. You also see a sunset-hued papillon puppy.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll with both hands full of tarts, her sunset-hued papillon puppy's nose is covered in blueberry tart crumbs as they appreciate the skillful baking of Thipbeet)
[Yulugri Wala, Floor Seating]
Bright red upholstered seats allow guests to sit in comfort for the performances. This section of the floor seating provides few frills, but does allow a clear view of the stage -- as long as the occupants of the seats farther forward are not too tall.
[Yulugri Wala, Stage]
A row of lights illuminates the boards and those who take their place upon them. Dark curtains block sight of the wings.
(Mazilyn sets her Truffenyi doll in one of the floor seats as she sketches him watching her sunset-hued papillon puppy put on an elaborate show on the stage. Not certain of the plot, some ghost actors mill about, avoiding the puppy's monologue)
Ain Ghazal
[Ain Ghazal Auberge, In The Pool]
Half a dozen comfortable seats and recliners with headrests are carved into the submerged white marble. The soothing cadence of trickling water invites carefree relaxation. You also see some marble steps, a blue diamond orb, a rhodochrosite orb, an enargite orb and a small plaque.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll relaxing in one of the recliners in the pool, the carefree relaxation about to be interrupted by a wiggling puppy about to pounce)
[Ain Ghazal Chateau, Synod Seating]
This audience balcony overlooks the dais of the Synod Chamber. The individual, carved and polished mahogany seats are simple yet comfortable, with smooth armrests.
[Ain Ghazal Chateau, Synod Chamber]
The Sisters' Synod, as well as the occasional guest council, meets in this enormous chamber. A semi-circular table of precious ziricote wood on the well-lit dais commands the attention of the audience -- four balconies overlook the dais, poised for good visual and acoustical observation of the proceedings. A small arch in the north wall, flanked on each side by a motionless Adept, leads to a small spiral staircase going up. You also see a partially enclosed veranda and a wide marble stairway.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll holding council with The Synod while her sunset-hued papillon puppy trots proudly around the table)
[Ain Ghazal Chateau, Bell Chamber]
Dozens of bronze bells of various sizes are bolted to huge wooden beams and obviously remain stationary during performances. Movable metal clappers, connected to thick wires that disappear through tiny oval slots in the marble floor, carry the impulses of the carillonneur from the batons below to the bells above. A short stairway leads down to the bastion.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll lightly tapping different bells while her sunset-hued papillon puppy decided the tiniest bell was the best to repeatedly thwap with its paw)
Boar Clan
[Boar Clan Togball Field, Home Team Bench]
A green and brown striped bench is flanked on each side by a sturdy water barrel for the convenience of thirsty players. Odd snoring sounds can be heard coming from the direction of a short structure labelled with the word "TUSKY" in runny block letters. An oak carving of an owl atop a tall pole stands by the edge of the field of play.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll and her sunset-hued papillon puppy decked out in Togball attire, cheering the home team to victory)
[Boar Clan, Split-Log Path]
Some of the logs in the pathway have been cut down by a third or half to make way for the bulging roots of a broad peregan tree that have burst up through the soil. The only tree growing within the village walls, it soars above everything to impossible heights and the generous reach of its arching branches shelters several nearby buildings. You also see a small silver fox.
Fox: The sprightly silver fox gazes around with big blue eyes filled with all the innocence of childhood. Sniffing curiously, the fox's diminutive black nose is eager to find new smells. Her thick, silvery grey fur is banded with white and charcoal, allowing her to blend with the patchy snow and long shadows that characterize the landscape of her native forest steppe.
(Mazilyn sketches the large peregan tree with a small silver fox siting in the roots. The sunset-hued papillon puppy slowly approaching the fox, seeming to ask if it wants to play. Her Truffenyi doll nods at the civilizations respect and incorporation of nature within the village walls)
[Boar Clan, Before the Gate]
Torches flicker beside a massive palisade gate guarding a small village nestled within the forest glade. Though sharpened points top the upright logs of the palisade, they appear to be the trees of the glade itself embracing the clusters of longhouses within. Gor'Tog rangers flanking the gate open and close it as needed with a chorus of grunting and the scraping sounds of the wooden gate dragging on the ground as it moves.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll leaning against the massive gate, holding it open for the sunset-hued papillon puppy to saunter through.)
Hibarnhvidar
[Outer Hibarnhvidar, Market Square]
Cut into the southeast portion of a low stone wall, a wide ironwork archway acts as the entrance into the Market Square. Stones of varying shades of grey and dark red lay like a giant puzzle on the ground, flawlessly placed with no visible grouting in between. A pair of long plates of treated metal lies across a channel of water that interrupts the eastern side of the square. In the center of the market is a leather tent with colorful pennants on the northern side.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll and her sunset-hued papillon puppy browsing the market square, enjoying the sights and sounds, the puppy's nose is up in the air enjoying the smells)
[Momma's Bed and Breakfast, Parlor]
Low ceilings and darkened wall panels in this room make candles necessary throughout the night and day. Everything is very tidy right down to the pine floor that has recently been swept. Mismatched armchairs and stools have been arranged in an attempt to provide private seating areas. Hung in a place of honor over the mantel of the fieldstone fireplace is a broken axe handle.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll enjoying the comforts of the bed and breakfast. Her sunset-hued papillon puppy leaping from the variety of chairs and stools like the floor is lava)
[Temple of Kertigen, Hall of the Dead]
Stretching off into the distance as far as the light reaches, the long, low cavern holds the remains of the residents of Hibarnhvidar who have passed on to remain with their gods. Stately rows of stone catafalques bear the bones of heroes and kings, while precisely carved niches line the walls for those of poorer purse or less fame.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll paying respects to the long dead of Hibarnhvidar)
Fayrin's Rest
[Fayrin's Rest, Trader Pit]
On this sunken, earth-packed floor, shouting Halfling clerks scramble and collide, waving freshly inked receipts before throwing them down on the pine desk. They cater to the demands of merchants staring at the boards like frenzied spectators at a bear baiting.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll and her sunset-hued papillon puppy carefully watching the clerks from afar to avoid being trampled. A bemused look crosses the Truffenyi doll as commerce furthers civilization in various ways.)
[Fayrin's Rest, Telgi Mod'Sunhin]
Massive oaks extend a silver-grey canopy of leaves that fades quickly into inkblack darkness from here to the east, north and south. The air shimmers and whispers softly, sibilantly, of long growth and gradual decay. A few slender cedars and elms mark the beginning of a denser forest to the west, one marked by greater undergrowth and steeper rises. You also see an obelisk.
An obelisk reads: Upon this site one evening the bardess Aurilae Cui'Gweld entertained a troll general and his entourage for a night of stories and songs, preventing his army from attacking Fayrin's Rest until Elven reinforcements could arrive in the village. Her efforts were discovered the following morning, and she was given to the general's troops. Her spirit remains here, honored. Traveller, think well on Aurilae's sacrifice, and the value of a soul that weighs life with such refined sensibility.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll honoring the memorial obelisk to the bardess Aurilae Cui'Gweld. Memories seem to haunt his eyes as he recalls that time in mortal history. The sunset-hued papillon puppy licks at the Truffenyi doll's fingers to comfort him)
[Marachek's Oak, Den]
This cozy sitting room centers around a small fireplace aglow with softly sizzling pinecones and oak logs. Instead of the usual, endless animal trophies there are Marachek family memorabilia scattered across every available surface...including a stuffed, lifesize Halfling Barbarian in one corner. You also see a sunset-hued papillon puppy and a small archway.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll nestled in the memorabilia, her sunset-hued papillon puppy practicing its growling, mimicking the stuffed Barbarian)
Ilaya Taipa
[Old Crank's Road, Carleen's]
Set some distance off the road on the opposite side of a clearing large enough to accommodate dozens of caravans, Carleen's is housed in a garishly decorated building replete with signs touting the wonders to be found within: "Nutlogs!" "Thick Beer!" and "Souvenirs!" A picnic table and benches offer a respite from the rigors of life's journeys. For those who can resist Carleen's blandishments, the road curves westward toward a large meadow.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll and her sunset-hued papillon puppy stopping to rest at Carleen's. The waystation smartly sandwiched between two towns provides a nice respite from the journey.)
[Ilaya Taipa, Pier]
Blandly anonymous, as all such places are, the weathered boards of the pier creak underfoot. Heavy pilings on either side are lashed together by layers of tarred rope. You also see the water of the harbor below, the North Wind's Skimmer moored beside the pier, a bright red lacquered chest, a woven reed basket and a slatted wooden box.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll sitting on one of many piers. A shipment of goods is being unloaded from the ship and her sunset-hued papillon puppy chases after the dock workers)
[Pischic's Pearls]
Polished wooden apothecary cabinets hold row after row of tiny drawers along the far side of the shop. Between the cabinets is a shallow workbench padded with soft velvet. Soldering irons bristle amidst the coals of a brazier, kept hot until required for use. Tendrils of smoke rising from the fire give the air of pleasant fragrance. At the front of the store, an assortment of jewelry is displayed atop a dark case. You also see a sunset-hued papillon puppy, a painted white head with a few things on it, a silver tree with a few things on it and a six-fingered ceramic hand with several things on it.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll perusing the pearls while her sunset-hued papillon puppy pounces into a pile of pearls, trinkets flying every which way with a puppy tail wagging happily)
Silverclaw Hub
[Silverclaw Hub, Hut of the Three]
Surprisingly large inside, the hut itself consist only partially of platform. A wide hallway is cut into the massive tree, allowing for much more space. Thick, woven rugs and dense pelts line the floors, providing seating for the inhabitants and visitors alike. You also see a sunset-hued papillon puppy, Ra Vaelorn, Eidola Bailon and Teacher of the Kin Seryal.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll seated among the representatives of the three Claws. Each regaling the Truffenyi doll with stories of the Triquetra and various battles. The sunset-hued papillon puppy rolls around under the table nibbling crumbs)
[Silverclaw Hub, Lookout]
Covered only by a truncated roof, the platform here is open to the elements, allowing the Prydaen to scout the forest for potential food or danger. The platform extends out slightly underneath an overhanging branch, providing a way to access a wooden-seated swing that someone has installed.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll surveying the area, a soft gaze of approval flickers on his face as the lookout leaves no blind spots to dangers. The sunset-hued papillon puppy's tail wags as it follows a dragonfly across the platform)
[Silverclaw Hub, Central Treehouse]
Built into the sprawling canopy of a shorter tree, the central platform features a large firepit. Several young Prydaen run through the area, squealing and making various babyish mewling sounds at each other while a handful of Elders watch over them with a tolerant expression. Nearby warriors feign negligence, but fiercely approach any that get too close to the playing kits. You also see a creaking bridge.
(Mazilyn sets her Truffenyi doll down and sketches him talking with the warriors while smiling at the kits playing with the sunset-hued papillon puppy)
Siksraja
[Siksraja, Cawrs Cels]
The split rail fencing butts the back wall of a sturdy building. A small shop, with a work shed behind it, sits across the path. The path turns here, curving toward the clearing and further into the village. You also see a Siksraja Defender, a sunset-hued papillon puppy, a reinforced tent, a red tent flying an orange flag, an aging but well-maintained wagon and a grey tent.
(Mazilyn sketches a time-lapse of her Truffenyi doll and her sunset-hued papillon puppy waltzing into each shop and returning with prized samplings of Rakash armor, jewelry, clothing, and weapons.)
[Siksraja, Saralt Kaste]
Cinnamon and fresh bread scent the air so heavily that some customers seem to have difficulty remembering what they came to purchase. Tilted racks line the surrounding walls, displaying the current items for sale. Only the freshest goods will do for Siksraja and the baker can be heard through swinging half-doors, giving orders in the kitchen to his staff. You also see a sunset-hued papillon puppy.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll and her sunset-hued papillon puppy sampling the Rakash delicacies, the apple-streusel cookie ranking among the top)
[Dzilvawta Ala, Redivawzis Niche]
Sandstone and earth form a narrow, long cocoon with just enough height to stand upright. The roughly chiseled ceiling and uneven walls appear deliberately patterned. Directly in front of a small niche, recessed into the back wall, are remnants of a fire that scorched the earthen floor.
Cold, cloying air seeps through your bones as you struggle to stay warm in the cavern's damp air. (Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll conversing with a Badger, Crow, and Butterfly. Her sunset-hued papillon puppy snuggles up to the Badger to keep warm in the cold damp cavern)
Langenfirth
[Langenfirth, Blufe Path]
The rustic town is nestled in the Danduwen Forest, on the shore of a sheltered cove on Gwenalion Lake. The fir and pine trees grow very tall and in thick stands, with a few birch and oak finding room to spread under the lower limbs of the taller firs. The streets, more like paths, wind and twist past the huge tree trunks, obviously an effort to avoid cutting down any tree. You also see a simple wooden picnic table covered in gingham with several things on it, some pine logs, a waste bin, a narrow deer trail and a crooked deobar tree.
(Mazilyn sketches Langenfirth's gathering place, her Truffenyi doll adding a blade of grass to the bin while her sunset-hued papillon puppy sneaks the blade back out of the bin)
[The Telgar Inn, Tavern Room]
The Telger Inn Tavern is known for its assortment of high quality local brews and fine imports. Its kitchen offers the finest meals in the north, if your tastes run to fresh game and fish. A large bar runs the width of the room, and a row of booths sits in the back. The front of the tavern has several large tables to serve large groups of people. The smell of roasting meat and fresh baking bread mingle with the sharper odor of newly brewed stout. You also see a waste bin, a large table, a barkeep and a chalkboard menu.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll sampling the tavern's menu and passing scraps to her sunset-hued papillon puppy)
[Langenfirth, The Langenfirth Tree]
A rickety platform in the top of this huge, tall, ancient tree provides a good look-out point with a view which is unbroken for many miles. It has given the towns folk, as they peer in many directions, fair warning of anything coming their way from the distant hills and early sightings of the barge arriving from Riverhaven. The town below is hidden beneath the tops of shorter firs, but the view far out into Gwenalion Lake is clear for miles.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll taking in the amazing view of moral marvels. Her sunset-hued papillon puppy barks at the 'Gweny' shaped blotch in the Lake below)
Therenborough
[Theren Keep, Great Hall]
Seven columns span the chamber in a vast semi-circle of burnished black marble, the middle three curving around a broad dais while the outer pairs brace high, spectacular balconies. Striking blue-gold banners and silken tapestries proclaim the royal colors of Therengia, but these minor ornaments pale before the tiled dome ceiling and a massive, seven-sided table which dominates the great hall. You also see a swinging deobar door, an ornate gilded birdcage on a jewel-encrusted stand, a well-lit corridor, a flower arch of fairy fern twined with white roses, orange blossoms and stephanotis and some scissor chairs positioned around the table.
(Mazilyn sketches the Great Hall, her sunset-hued papillon puppy playfully chasing something under the table while her Truffenyi doll stands over the sana'ati wood table reminiscing over the Empires of the past)
[North Road, Farmlands]
Row after row of tidily formed haystacks fill the field to one side of the road. A fenced-in pasture borders the other side, and the hollow clonk of cowbells resounds as grazing cows occasionally amble over to the fence to peer at the stacks with interest.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll staring out into the field, the ghosts of Guildfests past wander through the festival fields, merchants selling goods, people purchasing all sorts of odds and ends, laughinging, and playing games)
[Gyfford's Bridge, Deck]
From atop the sturdy construction of the arching bridge, you can observe broken rocks scattered at the bottom of the ravine over a safety wall. Wind whips through the narrow ravine. Beneath you, quartzite and granite cobblestone provides a firm support in what would otherwise undoubtedly be a precarious position, a testament to engineering. A plaque at the pinnacle of the arch marks the dedication of the bridge. You also see a plaque.
(Mazilyn stands her Truffenyi doll on top of what used to be a simple, annoying, horrible rope bridge. She sketches the new cobblestone bridge, a triumph of construction that the Ravens and Necros helped make a reality. Her Truffenyi doll taps the plaque acknowledging all the ideologies that had to work together)
Rossgallan Keep
[A. R. Cayne's Majikul Serplize]
Dilapidated piles of clutter lean at odd angles in the tiny shop, leaving little room for shoppers to browse amidst the peculiar assortments of wares. An old birdcage hangs from the rafters above a slate-topped worktable, while buckets and coffers vie for space with a porcelain hair cache and a large iron cauldron. You also see a sunset-hued papillon puppy, some wooden pegs with several things on it, a small sign and a narrow wooden door.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll holding up a withered newt eye to the light for inspection, her sunset-hued papillon puppy stares up at him in hopes he will drop the unwitting treat. The pair make little charm bags of goodies for playing with later, neither paying attention to the sign clearly stating ‘not responsible for anything that results from the charm bags you put together’)
[Rossgallan Keep, Courtyard]
Pale gravel paths contrast vividly with the cropped green grass that covers the enclosed motte. Small buildings dot the perimeter of the grounds, while twin towers, one to the north, one to the south, loom in the distance above the palisade walls.
(Mazilyn sketches a zoomed out view of her Truffenyi doll and sunset-hued papillon puppy standing in the middle of the gigantic keep, each watch tower looming over the walls like guardians)
[Rossgallan Keep, Northeast Courtyard]
Green grass grows in a smoothly cropped lawn beneath the gnarled branches of fruit trees. The high walls of the palisade shelter the trees from the cold winter winds, without blocking the sunlight needed for growth. You also see a cozy brown brick house, a small sign and a cedar frame cottage.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll sharing fruits with her sunset-hued papillon puppy as they watch the hustle and bustle of city life)
Riverhaven
[Pine Woods, Lake View]
High above the sparkling waters of Lake Gwenalion, a vast slab of bare rock juts out beyond the treeline, providing a magnificent view of the wooded wilds between here and Therenborough. In the far distance, the low buildings and dense forestation of Langenfirth crouch around the lake's northwestern shore. A series of fat pine logs, stripped of their rough bark, provides a pleasant place to sit and enjoy the breathtaking vista.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll gazing out across Lake Gwenalion's waters, admiring the distant cities as a dark 'Gweny' shaped splotch lurks under the still waters)
[Riverhaven, Theren Way]
Two buildings built of cream and pink marble face each other across the road. One is the Empath Guild, the other the Guild hospital. Both are built with wide porches like inviting arms to welcome the sick, the suffering, and those who heal them. The air is fresh and clean-smelling, and the twin houses of healing gleam from frequent scrubbing of the stonework. You also see smelly cat that is sitting, a mistwood bench and an oak crate.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll holding his nose while offering Smelly Cat a fish treat. The sunset-hued papillon puppy eyes the feline dubiously)
[Zaulfung, Standing Stones]
This curiously circular clearing looks as if all its vegetation was blasted away centuries ago in an arcane duel. A pair of imposing standing stones, one grey and smooth, the other blackened and charred, face each other across the clearing. To the east and southeast are narrow gaps leading through the otherwise impenetrable scrub, while the path to the southwest is a broken tangle of exposed roots. You also see a black standing stone.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll inspecting the Standing Stones while the sunset-hued papillon puppy performs the most notoriously successful test in all of magic testing... the lick test. The background of the sketch is gloomy and swampy with malevolent emerald eyes observing the puppy and doll)
Knife, Wolf, Tiger, and Stone Clans
[Stone Clan, Trader's Guild Outpost]
This outpost is built of heavy, massive rockwork in the Dwarven style, plain but durable. Designed for safe storage, as well as easy buying and selling of bulk goods by Guild members, it is crammed and jammed with crates, boxes and packages of all manner and value. A stern-looking Guild trade minister is at hand to expedite transactions and to make sure nothing leaves or arrives without the proper fees and monies being exchanged. You also see the Stone Clan trade minister, an oak stand with a fur packing crate on it and a shipment clerk.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll picking up a fur packing crate and exchanging plesantries with the Stone Clan trade minister)
[Sazu's Cottage, Dyeing Chamber]
Sazu, the Gor'Tog dyer, stands at a black iron kettle, stirring the liquid within. She reaches up to grab a handful of berries from an overhead basket, and tosses them into the pot. Dozens of wicker baskets hang from the ceiling, along with bunches of drying flowers. Unglazed windows have their shutters opened to let in the daytime breezes. A dye menu chart is nailed next to a ladder which appears to lead to a room overhead. You also see a narrow ramp and the dyer Sazu.
(Mazilyn sketches Sazu hard at work, rows and rows of colors and objects waiting for her talents. The Truffenyi doll herds the sunset-hued papillon puppy away from the kettle and colors)
[Wolf Clan Home, Square]
The road circles around a cleared area that has been planted with grass. In the middle a man-sized statue stands, so lifelike it would seem that at any moment it will leap down and run away. As ominous as the statue looks, when people pass by they look at it with a warm smile and raise their head with pride. You also see a winding path.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll admiring the statue of Ironbeard as people in the background 'visit their grandmothers' to steal what little surplus the Clan has left)
[Knife Clan, Healer's Kitchen]
The cramped room smells of baked goods with fading notes of an antiseptic. Standing torches illuminate the whitewashed floor and matching stone walls. Darker stains can be seen beyond the coating of both, a testament to the lifetime of surgeries and triage that were once performed here. Now, the sounds of such medicine are replaced with the rhythmic pounding of herbs in mortars and stirring of medicines and batters in large bowls. You also see a sunset-hued papillon puppy, Bioalchemist Dokt, a large ceramic plate with a couple of things on it, a short wooden table with several things on it, a silver tray with a couple of things on it and a glass counter with a golden cloth draped across it with several things on it.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll helping Dokt in the kitchen, trays of cookies lined up to cool. Truffenyi gazes at Dokt proudly as the ex-healer tells of his future baking plans with excitement. The sunset-hued papillon puppy happily eats the 'accidentally' dropped 'overbaked' cookies)
Dirge
[Dirge, Gateway Road North]
Leading away from the gate and into the center of town, this stretch of road passes between a shop and one side of the Town Hall. The bleak stone walls reflect the sound of your footsteps making you feel as if you were being followed with every move you make. You also see a somber shaman and a shop.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll walking with the somber shaman. The sunset-hued papillon puppy nibbles at the shaman's hem though he is seemingly interested in nothing around him except the contents of his satchel and the string of prayer beads slung from his wrist.)
[A Musty Tent]
Stale dusty air mixes with the smell of rotting canvas to create a stifling atmosphere within the tent. However, the Halfling acolyte does not seem to mind at all. He sits leaning against several crates packed with mildewed straw.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll acknowledging the bonds that do not last, his hand rests on the Halfling acolyte's shoulder as the sunset-hued papillon puppy reassuringly snuggles up to them)
[Dirge, Darkstone Inn]
The main room of the Inn, once well decorated and painted but now decayed and faded, still serves as a gathering place for those who dwell here or for the rare traveller. A long wooden bar, now splintered and broken in many places, still stands at the far end of the room, while a scattering of tables gives the few patrons someplace to sit. You also see the main exit, a faded menu written on a large sheet of crudely tanned parchment, a bartender, a dark corner, the back bar and Philosopher Velzor.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll confering with Philosopher Velzor about something off the secret menu. An almost smile slips across the bartender's lips as they send the sunset-hued papillon puppy over with a note containing their request) After a moment of cautious studying and sniffing, a sunset-hued papillon puppy hops up on top of a long wooden bar, then gets out.
Sunfall Hub
[Wildflower Meadow, Before the Gods]
Wildflowers circle a leafy bush and a large, flat boulder, the surface of which is rounded due to years of exposure to the wind and rain. Lush grass blankets the ground like a living carpet that softens footfalls. A faint path heads toward the tree line to the north, while the field drops off elsewhere in the other directions.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll and her sunset-hued papillon puppy with the most recent vision's representation of Eu smiling and sharing the accomplishments of their people)
[Sunfall Hub, Firepit Circle]
At the dead center of the Hub, an expansive bonfire blazes, tended to by the resident Prydaen. Several groups gather in the area to exchange trade, words, or to simply stop and share a meal. Nearby, a small group of well-protected kits take instruction from two Claw members while nearby warriors keep a watchful eye on the area. You also see a low platform with several things on it.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll sharing stories with her sunset-hued papillon puppy and other Prydaen figures)
[Sunfall Hub, Inside A Hide Tent]
Built upon sturdy sets of stilts, several hammocks with thick pallets are suspended, waiting to hold the weary. A simple dirt floor is covered by thin hides, with a small rock encircled firepit set into the center of the room. A hide flap provides both entrance and exit to the room.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll and her sunset-hued papillon puppy resting in a hammock as a small fire burns in the firepit)
Kaerna Village
[Grek's Food and Supplies]
This store is larger on the inside than it seems from the outside, its wares proudly displayed on the walls or stacked neatly in corners. Seated behind the counter on a specially-made stool is the proprietor, Grek the Dwarf. He gives you a wary look as you enter, then seems to relax, the Dwarvish equivalent of a smile on his face. You also see a fire-scored wooden table with a couple of things on it.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll carefully reviewing the catalog and confiring with the sunset-hued papillon puppy as to which treats to select)
[The Gilded Unicorn, Secluded Booth]
This booth has been set aside from the rest of the tavern for those who wish more intimate conversation. There is a clean table with a vase here, and padded seats for the weary. Someone has gone to the trouble to make sure that there are real candles to light the otherwise darkened corner, and every now and then a server comes over to check the wicks and replenish the ones that are beginning to gutter.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll and sunset-hued papillon puppy whispering in the secluded booth, the other patrons go about their orderings, oblivious to the duo)
[Kaerna Village, Near The Well]
Meandering eastward from the village well, a grassy footpath follows a gentle decline away from the bustle of the Northern Trade road and through a small copse of oak and aspen trees. Wildflowers grow in abundant banks on either side of the path, their delicate blossoms evolving with the seasons in an endless, ever-changing cycle of color and fragrance. You also see the village well and a cozy red fieldstone cottage with a wooden herb planter hanging outside the window.
(Mazilyn sets her Truffenyi doll on the edge of the well and sketches him passing water to villagers with her sunset-hued papillon puppy lapping at the edge of the well)
Horse Clan
[Zaldi Taipa, Osage Path]
Sycamore poles, still bearing their mottled green and white bark, support a canopy of deep brown felt with an underlining of pale, filmy netting that can be dropped if insects become troublesome. Willow camp chairs and a small brass table are placed beneath, and the whole arrangement has been invitingly arranged to provide a good view of the osage pen that holds horses available for sale.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll appraising each horse, his approval clear on his face as he spys a very well loved pony in the back.)
[Zaldi Taipa, Sweathouse]
Wide wooden benches lashed between stout poles circle the perimeter of this oval hut, dappled with wavering light from the candles set in tall sand-filled clay pots in each corner. Intricately carved, bas-relief images of wild horses galloping freely through the plains spiral upwards along the length of each pole. In the center of it all, a deep pit containing glowing hot rocks has been dug in the earth floor that has been covered with fresh woven-grass mats. You also see a narrow door.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll sweating profusely in the steam of the purification hut, a horse's head peeks through the window to see what is going on)
[Zaldi Taipa, Firing Pit]</spam>
Heat radiates steadily from a firepit just behind the potter's tent. River stones have been piled up above the hot coals, and a planked pine framework placed over them with a second fire burning on top -- the whole creating an inferno from which the distinctive Horse Clan pottery is born. Nearby, large baskets of cedar kindling and dried horse manure stand ready to replenish the hungry flames.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll roasting marshmallows, careful not to disturb any of the pottery, while horses graze in the background)
Shard
[Shard, Opal Street]
A cart filled with apples and manned by a cheery-faced Halfling with a striped smock on awaits all who pass over the Bridge of Wrens to the southeast either arriving to or leaving from Opal Street. The roof of the Temple of Light can faintly be seen to the south, while southwest the Great Tower captures the eye with its bright gleam. You also see a Halfling vendor.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll enoyinga Chilled Apple Cider and some Dragon Mountain Apples, a short break in their travels to support small businesses)
[Shard, Emerald Lane Open Market]
Patched tents and booths formed of slats of wood that vary wildly in type and color bloom in clumps of full and myriad colors around the stiffer and more prestigious backs of the homes on Diamond Street to the north and northeast. The curve of a bridge allows passage to Moonstone Street to the southwest. You also see a statue of Faenella.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll admiring the duality of Shard displayed in the shifting statue, behind Faenella stands a dark figure, casually checking the time)
[Shard, West Battlements] High above the West Gate, embrasures pierce the stone battlements between the merlons that give cover to the defenders of the walls. The perch commands the main entrance to the city with a field of fire that covers the West Bridge.
(Mazilyn sets her Truffenyi doll to stare out across the landscape outside Shard's West gate, a strange temple looms in the distance as a wyvern playfully drops an adventurer to their doom)
[Shard, South Entrance of The Great Tower]
A wall composed of the glittering, extremely hard substance known as diamondique wraps around the gardens that circle the Great Tower of Shard. A granite archway melts out of the otherwise seamless crystalline structure, the slots in its gated front revealing tantalizing slices of what lies beyond the walls. Ruby Street rolls in from the south to fork off east and west into two paths that skirt the wall and one central path of white quartz that leads into the courtyard of the Tower.
(Mazilyn poses her Truffenyi doll with his hands up and sketches Shard's Great Tower with her Truffenyi doll's hands holding up a great feat of civilization)
Shadow's Reach/Corik's Wall
[Shadow's Reach, Plinth]
This hewn plinth of black granite is a perfectly symmetrical ashlar symbolizing the rectitude of a pure soul. The top is charred and blackened with fire, but kept free of ashes by the swift winds.
(Mazilyn quickly sketches her Truffenyi doll inspecting the plinth as he would the "purity" of a soul, the slight smile on his face hinting that his forgiveness and mercy help shape a soul)
[Corik's Wall, Watchtower]
The small wooden platform is sheltered by a thatched roof and stands nearly a story and a half above the battlements, offering an unequaled view of the canyon to either side. On one side, a pale river of stone wends north to the dusky fringes of the Darkling Wood. To the south, mist and shadow recreate the forsaken landscape leading up to the soullessly black edge of the Dark Hand. You also see a weathered brass clarion, a rear ladder and a forward ladder.
(Mazilyn sets her Truffenyi doll on the edge of the platform, legs dangling over. She sketches him surveying the encroaching forsaken land with a keen eye.)
[Corik's Wall, Chantry]
Tall brass candlesticks flank two altars draped in emerald silk that occupy a deep alcove. One is carved of deep crimson bloodwood and the other of fine-grained ironwood. Though no sunlight enters the windowless chantry, a bowl of oil burning behind a stained glass panel sends bright colors chasing shadows into the far corners. Before the altars are worn velvet-clad kneelers embroidered with a laurel encircling a lion's claw.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll, a hand on either altar, head bowed in acknowledgement of the service the Emerald Knights do with little more than will, strength, and faith to sustain them)
[Blackthorn Canyon, Before the Wall]
With scarcely a welcoming tree or morsel of grass on the canyon floor, birds flying over it seem to carry their provisions with them. A few alight on the wall's parapets, but quickly fly off when the bustle of constant activity moves too close. You also see Graev's Gate.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll before Graev's Gate, the steel-banded gate is nearly a story and a half of thick kiln-cured ironwood reinforced with long slide bolts that turn and lock into place. She captures the bleak environment juxtaposed with the imposing gate)
Duskruin
[Duskruin, Side Street]
The narrow street traverses between the towering walls of the bank and a row of homes along the opposing side, lit only by the muted candlelight from the curtained windows. Rounded stone archways stretch between the two-story homes, shading the cobblestone pavement and disguising lines of drying laundry that crisscross overhead. A discarded bucket and hearth broom lean against the steps leading to one of the numerous unmarked doorways, while a ramp at one end of the street rises up to the commotion surrounding the bank above. You also see an immense dirt construct, an Unscrupulous Ringleader brigand and a bucket of viscous gloop.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll reviewing some Vault schematics, his brow furrowed as he traces a finger from the entrance to the big red X that marks the treasure spot)
[Duskruin, Central Observation Seating]
Liberal use of silks and velvets adorn nearly every surface in the room along with touches of masterfully sculpted gold accents and a generous amount of seating options. Each arranged to provide the viewer with an unparalleled view of the arenas below, plush benches with tufted backrests are carefully arranged to facilitate conversation among patrons as well. A central table rests within reach of each of the seats, awash with a bounty of refreshments. You also see a granite archway leading out.
(Mazilyn surveys the arena from the central tower, she sets her Truffenyi doll on the bench, his legs dangling over. She does a quick sketch of her Truffenyi doll watching a dark figure battling in the arena, clearly victorious as they drag off the opponent)
[Duskruin, Darkened Antechamber]
Rich veins of emerald and amethyst spider throughout the dark granite walls of the rounded antichamber, their deep hues occasionally reflected by the light of the surrounding torches. Several upholstered benches line the area, overlooking a central statue of a valiant warrior. A stoic Dwarven soldier stands before a blackened steel portcullis, guarding the entrance to the dark labyrinth of catacombs beyond. You also see a sunset-hued papillon puppy.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll in a sea of puppies and loot, her sunset-hued papillon puppy sits on top of the pile licking the doll's cheek)
Leth Deriel
[Gallows Tree, Town Warden's Office]
This room is chiseled out of the base of the old Gallows Tree, where hangings and drawing and quartering used to be regular features in the more tyrannical days of the Elven empires. The Warden's Office nowadays shows that more peaceable tis a straight-backed rush chair before a long table. Atop the Warden's desk sit a pot of hot herb tea and a tray of Mithin's donuts. You also see a wooden grid, a carved wooden display case and the Warden's desk with several things on it.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll amid the chaos of history's bloodshed that transformed into a more welcoming peaceful place)
[Leth Deriel, Sana'ati Dyaus Drui'tas]
In the midst of this clearing is the mighty tree known throughout Elanthia as Sana'ati Dyaus. Its limbs glow with a phosphorescent light and you can trace the very course of its roots by their faint glimmer. Every vein on every leaf is a streak of pale fire, and the diverse crowd here in the main gathering place is subtly illuminated. The tree houses all the town's official services, and people come and go through a large, open burl in the trunk. You also see a festive meeting portal, a festive portal, a mud-splattered chest and a uniformed representative.
(Mazilyn sets her Truffenyi doll in the center of all the important town buildings, sketching him, the town hall, the various portals, and several official looking people exchanging words)
[Bosque Deriel, Golden Grove]
The trees here all bear foliage in a glorious yellow hue. On a tree of deep gold-yellow shade is a branch with supple leaves and limber twigs of real gold, the mark of a sacred site. This whole grove covers and shades a carpet of yellow-tipped mosses. It is said if a traveler plucks the golden bough, a wood sprite will appear to lead the adventurer to a sacred secret place. You also see a sunset-hued papillon puppy.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll smiling at the secret cleric entrance to Glythtide's garden. A knowing smile suggests he approves of the bonds people make while furthering civilization)
Acenamacra
[Acenamacra Road, White Oak Farm]
Set behind a woven fence of mauve crepe myrtle and lilac, rests a greying clapboard farmhouse with forest green shutters and a wide front porch. A welcoming glow of lantern light filters through white lace curtains and the breeze rustles the branches of ancient white oaks protecting the house. Dark shapes of various outbuildings are visible behind the main structure, and acres of field stretch into the night. At the wagon entrance is an unobtrusive sign stating, "White Oak Farm." You also see a sunset-hued papillon puppy.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll looking proudly across the field of agricultural pursuits, the sunset-hued papillon puppy bats at the sign stating,"White Oak Farm")
[Acenamacra, The Village Tavern]
An aroma of tar and salt underlies a strong smell of fish inside the dim tavern. Apart from a few kegs for use as chairs, the only piece of furniture is a trestle table made from boards laid across empty casks. A sign and some bottles stand on the makeshift table. You also see a sunset-hued papillon puppy and an open door.
(Mazilyn sets her Truffeni doll on one of the kegs and sketches the tavern and patrons as best she can. The girl bustles in from the back, straightening up items and exchanging drink options)
[Acenamacra Pier]
Beyond the harbor, spray is thrown high into the air as waves strike the enclosing reef. The crash of the surf on the coral alternates with a long, drawn-out hiss as each retreating wave regroups to try again. From the vantage of the pier, several breaks in the reef are visible, but it would take an experienced and daring captain to attempt them. You also see a tall sea mammoth, the Reshalian Revenge, the Bolea Aman and the beach.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll next to the GIANT MAMMOTH as her sunset-hued papillon puppy gazes about the reef, unbothered)
Hara'jaal
[Hara'jaal, Amo Potha Telga]
The thicket becomes impassable to the south, while clearing further to the east. A dry wind blows through the dark foliage, carrying with it a sweet scent.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll in Hara'jaal's thick jumble of brush and vines with branches trying to impede his path as the thicket becomes near impossible to traverse)
[A Hidden Grotto]
Thick brush surrounds this bowl-shaped depression, hiding the outside world from view. Tall stones, pockmarked with age, encircle an obsidian altar. The air seems eerily still and empty of noise from the surrounding forest. You also see a rock protruding from the slope's side.
LOOK ALTAR: The altar is made from a huge slab of black obsidian with blood-red inclusions and carved with stylized animals encircling a centaur.
ROOM ATMO: A thick mist seems to gather over the altar, slowly forming into a vague man shape. After a moment the form takes a step off of the altar and disappears.
(Mazilyn sets her Truffenyi doll on the altar, a slab of obsidian with blood-red inclusions, and sketches him watching the thick mist gather over the altar, slowly forming into a vague man shape. After a moment the form takes a step off of the altar and disappears.)
[Hara'jaal, Glaren Kweld]
Ropy grass presses in on every side, hiding all but the vaguest impression of pathways. The ground is covered with a dense loam which cushions footfalls. Rotting detritus fills the air with a heavy scent. You also see an amber poloh'izh which appears dead, a sunset-hued papillon puppy and a rock.
(Mazilyn stands on top of the rock and sketchs her Truffenyi doll gawking at the complexities of the Polok'izh maze)
[Solvajelt Lasa'Zindu]
The wood walls are splashed with a rainbow assortment of colors. Pots of dyes and paints are piled high on shelves and stacked in corners, alongside wooden racks holding rows of the slender bone needles used to create designs on living skin or scales. A number of assistants stand ready to aid the master skin artists as they work with their customers. You also see a sunset-hued papillon puppy, a small sign, a book of skin art and a bead curtain.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll puzzling over the tattoo menu while the sunset-hued papillon puppy shakes her head in dismay)
A skin artist comes over with his tools. With deft movements the man applies dyes to your skin with a variety of needles. In just a short time you have a beautiful new tattoo.
You have a tattoo of a pair of wings with iridescent feathers on your back.
[The Enclave, Tehya's Stitchery]
No exclusive urban clothier, this shop is devoted to the taste of buccaneers and renegades both male and female. Bolts of bright cotton, patterned batiks, and exotic silks are piled in a glorious profusion in heavy oak cabinets lining the pale turquoise walls. The seamstress Tehya Garlane strides about the room, a length of scarlet homespun flung over one shoulder, flashing her brilliant smile and bantering with customers while adjusting the garments hung neatly on display. You also see a sunset-hued papillon puppy, a woven basket, some oak shelves with several things on it, an immaculate pine workbench, a driftwood rack with several things on it, a carved driftwood door and a pine cabinet with several things on it.
(Mazilyn giggles as she sketches a montage of her Truffenyi doll trying on the different pirate themed clothing, the center image has both of them grining from ear to ear in matching black leather vests embossed with stark white skulls)
[Sumilo Dock]
The platform of the dock is wrapped around with a thick, spongy material that protects it from being damaged when ships pull up. The dock planks are deeply scarred from the loading and unloading of cargo. You also see a sunset-hued papillon puppy, the Reshalian Revenge, a slate board and an ebony slate.
(Mazilyn makes a quick sketch of her Truffenyi doll and sunset-hued papillon puppy observing the sprawling Hara'jaal landscape)
Mer'Kresh
[Caress-of-the-Moons Manor, Hall]
An unusual copper and bronze sculpture consisting of crescent moon shapes bobs silently at the base of some wide steps. Surrounding the metal moons on all sides, the walls are covered with a painted depiction of Moon Mages in various stages of stargazing. The three moons -- Xibar, Katamba and Yavash -- smile down upon the watching mages from their locations high in the painted sky. You also see a sunset-hued papillon puppy, an ornate table with a couple of things on it and the silvery-white shard Besoge.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll smirking as her sunset-hued papillon puppy tries to climb up the Grazhir shard)
[Carillon, Garden]
LOOK GOOSE: A small footbridge spanning an ornamental brook interrupts the winding flow of the flagstone path. Roses mingling with honeysuckle climb the bridge's posts and stretch across its handrails. Tangled vines grow along the banks of the stream and knee-high shrub parterres filled with flowers border the path. As the path curves, the carillon can be seen rising to the north east. You also see a snowy white goose that appears rather calm.
By far the largest goose you've ever seen, this proud gander waddles around majestically, weaving from side to side while pecking at the ground. He wears a collar of woven yellow and green seagrass with a tiny charm dangling from the silver buckle. Known as "King" to the locals, he has feathers as white as fresh fallen snow, some the size of a small child's hand. His large flat bill, the color of summer squash, looks strong and you know instinctively that messing with this goose would be a big mistake.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll in a slight nod, acknowledging King, the goose)
[The Sweet Life Candy Shoppe, Salesroom]
White paint covers the room from floor to ceiling, providing a blank canvas for the decorative exhibits of candy placed throughout the shop. Strategically placed near the front window, a glass case filled with colorful, novelty candies works as free advertising to lure in customers from the street. A long counter displaying an abundance of gourmet chocolates fills the space along one wall and across from it a table holds containers for sale so shoppers can make their own gifts for friends. You also see a sunset-hued papillon puppy and a curtained arch.
(Mazilyn sketches her sunset-hued papillon puppy and Truffenyi doll as they sift through the candy bins. Each filling a sack full of goodies with glee)
[Wharf End, Mer'Kresh]
Through the gaps in the heavy wood planks, one can easily see the waters of Torbis Sanhalas lapping noisily at the pilings. Although most of the surface of the wharf is covered by a wide assortment of boxes, barrels and shipping goods, there is little that would stop a dropped coin or trinket from vanishing through the slats and sinking into a watery grave. You also see The Jolas, the Reshalian Revenge, the Stranger Ranger, the Twilight's Journey, the Bloody Sabre, the Nightblade's Claw, a slate board and an ebony slate.
(Mazilyn sketches the dock with her Truffenyi doll sitting on a crate, Mer'Kresh's busy streets bustling behind him)
Throne City
[Imperial Palace, Zohkhalo Hall]
Displayed upon a platform of dark night-blue lapis, a huge marble throne fills the center of the room, its intricate carvings and faintly glowing runes brought to life in the flickering light of the crystalline chandelier that is suspended from the polished granite ceiling. You also see a marble arch leading to the conference chambers and a purple scroll.
(Mazilyn sits her Truffenyi doll in front of the throne but sketches him sitting in the middle of the giant throne, surveying the realm with a discerning but kind eye)
[Museum of Imperial History, First Floor Foyer]
On either side of the entrance, the walls are filled with restored tile mosaics depicting life in Imperial times. The hues of blue, gold, and green, all framed by lustrous white marble, extend from the floor to nearly the ceiling, a sharp contrast to the otherwise beautiful yet unadorned museum walls. A few ivory-colored stone benches give rest for the weary, allowing them a relaxing pause after a day of exhibit browsing. You also see a polished marble sign and some massive bronze doors.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll admiring the art as the Tour Guide drones on about the historic values of the paint used)
[Maginius Kaentao Maous, Spell Library]
Tall, elegant columns carved like intermingled two-headed serpents rise to the ceiling, which itself is a dizzying distance above. Circular shelves contain thousands upon thousands of books, most of which are off-limits to the casual browser. Scribes constantly scurry here and there, cataloging and arranging the contents. Near the entrance is a red velvet partition, where those visitors interested in viewing books up close have to register. You also see an elegant rosewood sign and the Archmagus Fleintoore.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll engaged in discorse with the Archmagus Fleintoore about which book from the catalog he should check out)
[Old Throne City, Shakoepi Bridge]
A wall of crates lines the stone railing of the bridge, reducing the expansive view southward to one of occasional unobstructed glimpses. This bridge, whatever its original purpose, is now used as a way station for cargo and deliveries into Throne City. All things passing through the gates of the city are subject to inspection, whether they be man, beast or mineral, and as such, those inanimate things that can not hurry their journey inside wait the longest. You also see a marble gate and a muddy slope leading down one side of the bridge.
(Mazilyn makes a sketch of her Truffenyi doll in front of the large portcullis is held over the gate by several heavy chains, ready to be dropped at a moment's notice in times of conflict.)
Ratha
[Pokekehekepi olpo'staho]
Gleaming golden sand stretches out, seemingly endless under the glaring light of the daytime sun.
(Mazilyn makes a sketch of her Truffenyi doll building a sandcastle as the Retan Dolomars look on menacingly)
[Truffenyi's Green]
A large common green stretches out over most of the northeastern section of the tier. The grassy area is an excellent spot for athletic activities, for a meal on the soft grass, or contemplating the sky above. The western edge of the field backs on to the temples of Chadatru and Glythtide, and a fountain dedicated to Truffenyi stands to the east near the intersection of the eastern-most road and East Palace Drive. You also see a large wicker herb basket, a trash receptacle, some wooden benches and a simple wooden picnic table covered in gingham with several things on it.
(Mazilyn looks around at all the temples and does a sketch of her Truffenyi doll standing in his Green, the animal aspects of all the other immortal temples present are lined up to greet him)
[The Sewers, Beneath the Drain]
The sewer drop under the grating is a small, tile-lined room. Rainwater from the street above flows into it and exits through a big bronze valve that seems oversized for that purpose. You also see a narrow passage beside the valve.
(Mazilyn makes a sketch of her Truffenyi doll riding on top of one of the Kra'hei Hatchlings with a clearly lost look on his face)
[Ratha, Bazaar]
Roiling with festive chaos, the walkways of this multicultural bazaar are lined with colorful pennants, and crowded with milling shoppers from every corner of Elanthia. Music, laughter, strange dialects and foreign tongues fill the air as merchants strike deals on everything from the finest raiment and precious gems to the most mundane of household staples. Packs of impatient children stop to gaze hungrily at the latest in edible delicacies on display.
(Mazilyn makes a sketch of her Truffenyi doll shopping and investigating all the stalls)
[Kygar's Pub, Courtyard]
Feathery ferns and seasonal flowers grow abundantly in beds that circle the courtyard, surrounding numerous tables, each with its own canvas umbrella to shelter customers from inclement weather. A half dozen tall torchieres are imbedded in the ground giving off light and warmth. Bowls of crunchy popped corn, a longtime tradition of Kygar's Pub, sit on each table. You also see a shadowy black wolf-hound puppy baring menacingly diminutive canine teeth, a sunset-hued papillon puppy, a small plump cat, a black and white cat and a sturdy oak beam with a two-colored dartboard on it.
(Mazilyn makes a sketch of the Truffenyi doll playing in the courtyard with all the animals. Pub goers laughing in the background as someone fails miserably at darts)
[Neh Dock, Port of Ratha]
Wide and well-built, this dock was made to accommodate the heavy caravans that pass over it daily. Workers load and unload ships in an almost endless flurry of activity. You also see the Reshalian Revenge, the Reshal Queen, an ebony slate and the Kree'la's schedule.
(Mazilyn makes a quick sketch of the 3rd and 4th tiers of Ratha as her Truffenyi doll stares in wonder at the construction)
Aesry
[The Reshalian Revenge, Quarterdeck]
In the middle of the quarterdeck is the ship's wheel mounted on a slightly higher platform. Shrouds, running from mast to cleats on the bulwark, are run overhead along with sheets from the ship's rigging. You also see a shadowy black wolf-hound puppy baring menacingly diminutive canine teeth, a sunset-hued papillon puppy, Pilot Vashboaz, a large spoked wheel, the ship's bell, the spanker mast, the lower spanker, a hatch, the upper spanker and the gaff topsail.
(Mazilyn makes a sketch of two exhausted puppies, the shadowy black wolf-hound puppy baring menacingly diminutive canine teeth flopped on its side with the sunset-hued papillon puppy's head resting on his tummy. The Truffenyi doll is smothered underneath the puppy pile as the massive amount of basalt stairs recedes into the distance)
[Aesry Surlaenis'a, On the Bridge]
The bridge arcs high above the pond, providing an excellent view of the outer cemetery. Below, the pond water is almost crystal clear, clear enough to view the fish swimming within. A row of majestic oak trees line either side of the trail that leads deeper into the cemetery, while a bed of freshly planted daisies and daffodils line the path back to the gate.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll gazing across the rows and rows of gravestones, the old church in the backgound gives the Necropolis an uneasy feeling and the puppies try to drag Truffenyi back towards town)
[Joirin's Puzzles]
Colorful baskets painted in every shade of the rainbow hang from the rafters, holding wood and other supplies for the puzzle maker. The wicker and rattan containers provide a sharp contrast to the stark white paper walls of the shop itself. A gilt-edged black leather catalog rests atop a fringed red silk shawl which has been draped over the counter. You also see a wooden door leading to the shop's back room and Joirin.
(Mazilyn sets her Truffenyi doll amidst all the toys and puzzles and magic tricks and makes a sketch series of him waving the Ebonwood Wand around in his Black Silk Hat)
[Pier, Northwest Shore of Cha'walkas]
The dark wood of the pier glistens with slick wetness. Waves churn underneath as the lake sloshes against unseen rocks, and the cloudy mist drifts to hover low against the surface of the water. The temple built upon a small rocky island in the center of the lake is visible above the lingering fog. You also see a weathered currach.
(Mazilyn makes a quick sketch of her Truffenyi doll admiring the Eluned temple as the rain falls into the surrounding lake, an Eluned Promise blossom is predominantly featured in the shore line)
[Aesry Surlaenis'a, Shadaer]
Weathered by the sun and the salty sea air, the wooden pier stretches to the south. Ships of all types anchor for the night, though some small boats fish near the dangerous shoals at the harbor mouth. You also see the Reshalian Revenge, a wooden ladder, the Lybadel's schedule and an ebony slate.
(Mazilyn makes sketch of the puppies and Truffenyi staring up at the stairs in abject horror but also minor admiration for how civilization delt with the mountainous regions)
Boat
[The Reshalian Revenge, Bow]
The bowsprit stretches forward from the ship where the starboard and port gunnels meet. An iron-banded oak capstan is bolted securely to the deck for use in hauling up the anchor, setting the shrouds, or any other work where great purchases are required. You also see a hatch, the flying jib, the fore topsail, the fore course and the fore mast.
(Mazilyn sketches her Truffenyi doll looking out across the open waters, the lights of Crossings and the Clans all visible along the shore. She adds a little dolphin waving its fin at the boat)
(Mazilyn makes a quick sketch of her Truffenyi doll looking out the porthole, a sunset-hued papillon puppy on his left and a shadowy black wolf-hound puppy baring menacingly diminutive canine teeth on the right)
[The Reshalian Revenge, Quarterdeck]
In the middle of the quarterdeck is the ship's wheel mounted on a slightly higher platform. Shrouds, running from mast to cleats on the bulwark, are run overhead along with sheets from the ship's rigging. You also see a sunset-hued papillon puppy, Pilot Vashboaz, a large spoked wheel, the ship's bell, the spanker mast, the lower spanker, a hatch, the upper spanker and the gaff topsail.
(Mazilyn sets her Truffenyi doll on the railing and makes a quick sketch of Crossing in the background with the sunset-hued papillon puppy sniffing Truffenyi's foot)
(Mazilyn sketches all the sailors going about their jobs, adjusting sails, pulling ropes, getting hit in the face with sea spray. Her Truffenyi doll is prominently featured directing all the boat activity)
Crossing Part 1
[Near Kaerna Village, A Dark Grove]
Around you grow trees in a circle so even and perfect they warrant suspicion. In the center of the grove is a deep pool, its surface smooth and glassy, undisturbed by the wind. Peering into it, it takes you a moment to realize that your face is not reflected in the pool and another to realize that neither are the trees. In fact, the only thing that can be seen are stars -- thousands and thousands of endless stars, some of which you know you have never seen in the sky above you. You also see some charcoal, an iridescent haversack, an ash grey backpack, a pink-checked cotton cloth with several things on it, a rugged silver backpack, a ditty bag, an ebon-hued backpack, a black obsidian altar with a rough obsidian bowl on it and a dirt path.
(Mazilyn makes a quick sketch of her Truffenyi doll standing in the Dark Grove next to a tree with a strange stone passage way)
[Crystal Cavern]
This tiny cavern inside the stone outcropping is alive with the sparkle of a thousand tiny crystals embedded into every facet of rock. The deep, cool waters of the hidden pool surround you, brushing against your skin and lapping at the base of a polished limestone statue of a dolphin emerging from the water. The pleasant echo of dripping water rolls through the cave. You also see some deeper water.
(Mazilyn does a quick sketch of her Truffenyi doll next to the dolphin statue)
[Berry Knolls, Oak Tree]
Thick branches stretch outward from the trunk of the tree, the crazy quilt of colorful grass and flowers below barely visible between the leaves. The wide, knobby trunk provides an easy climb down to the safety of the ground.
(Mazilyn sets her doll next to the tree trunk and sketches the overarching view of Arthe Dale with Truffenyi in the branches)
[Empaths' Guild, Courtyard Garden]
Open to the sky, this spot is sheltered from the worst of the weather and elements by a rich cedar arbor. In the center of the courtyard, a small fountain, filled with the darting forms of tiny fish, babbles to itself. Several elaborately-carved cedar benches are placed at one edge of the garden, directly across from a cushioned swing hanging from the arbor by wrought iron chains. A riot of seasonal plants compete for the attention of those who pass here, and a whispering willow tree looms overhead as if creating a protective mantle. You also see a frosty observer manifested as an infinitely rolling wave, an ethereal vela'tohr thicket, a broken rune, a silver tea cart with several things on it, a large vela'tohr plant, a marble statue of an elegant Elven woman carrying a shallow basin in her arms, some shallow stone stairs, an Empath renown scroll, a simple covered sideboard with several things on it and a small stone firepit.
You hold a miniature Truffenyi doll dressed in silvery blue robes high into the air for all to see.
(Mazilyn sits her Truffenyi doll on one of the benches and makes a quick sketch of him socializing with the statue in the background)
You dance about with your Truffenyi doll.
Truffenyi Needs To Travel
[Taelbert's Inn, Bar]
Bursts of laughter and excited shouts ring out from a game of dice being played at a corner table. Other tables and chairs are scattered haphazardly through the room, but most of the regulars perch on high stools near the bar. Apparently, the view of the buxom barmaid is more enticing from that angle. You also see a Prydaen villager, a barmaid and the menu. Also here: Sothios who is shrouded in shifting shadows.
You show Sothios your Truffenyi doll.
You say, "I gotta take him on sight seeing tours."
Sothios asks, "To see what?"
You ask, "Maybe with a corresponding bead to offer?"
You say, "I donno."
Sothios peers quizzically at you.
You ask, "Whatever there is to see?"
You say, "Civilization."
You nod.
Sothios grins.
Sothios asks, "Like holy stuff?"
Sothios asks, "Altrs?"
You say, "No."
You say, "Like Truffenyi stuff."
You gesture.
You ask, "Like this bar?"
You say, "I donno."
You say, "Pretty cobblestone would work."
You gaze at Sothios.
Sothios nods to you.
(Mazilyn orders a whiskey and sets her Truffenyi doll on the bar stool like he's drinking the drink. She pulls out a parchment and does a quick sketch and labels it with the location)
You get a shot of Darkstone Whiskey from atop the bar.
You glance at a miniature Truffenyi doll dressed in silvery blue robes.
You take a sip of the Whiskey. Aaaaah...warm and soothing. You finish off the rest of it, and set the shotglass aside.
