Depart Messaging
I haven't heard anything about changes, but it sounds pretty accurate that depart messaging might now be based on god of last favor.
Here is the one that was posted in the forums as well as my last depart. I had 6 favors, all Asketi. Dunno where this should go, or if it pans out as being right, but it's what I've got.--Aristrondr 23:39, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
- I always thought certain locations had area-specific depart messaging. Below is what I get near Asketi's Mount (also all Asketi favors). This is from a few weeks ago as well as prior to that, though; I'll update if I notice anything different the next time I die/depart. --Thilan 05:56, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
- Location does have some effect. Departed in Basilisks and at the Crossing Temple and got two different messages. Past (really large number) favors were from Eylhaar. I'll try to make it to the Mount and see if I get the same message as Thilan.
-Glimmereyes 19:52, 11 December 2010 (UTC)- Got the Freezing Blast message when I departed at the top of the Mount, didn't receive any part of the Eylhaar message.
-Glimmereyes 20:41, 11 December 2010 (UTC)- Yeah, there's enough to show location is likely the biggest factor. I'm tossing the data below into a table to help better see it. For the entries we don't have locations for, I'm just putting in the name of the user who added it to the page to make it easier to add later.--Aristrondr 17:00, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
- Checking back through my logs I have this:
You feel yourself lifted gently, cradled as if by a mother's hand. You suddenly find yourself floating upward, the light dimming slowly around you. Eventually, everything vanishes as the distance increases and you are enveloped by a sparkling panorama of brilliantly lit stars.
All of Zamara's favors are from the Prydaen Triquetra, Eu-Demrris-Tenemlor. Not sure if that's a generic messaging or what. I get this everywhere from Aesry to Forf. --Zamara 01:10, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Crossing (Field Goblins) |
Asketi | 5 | 0 | After what seems an eternity, you reach a gate. Before you stands a stoney-faced being who gives you a gentle look before saying, "By the grace of the Immortals you venerate, your soul is spared from the Void. Do not squander their gift." With a swift movement of his hand you suddenly feel yourself pulled back to the land of the living.
You feel a burst of pain as you gasp in a deep breath! All around you the world spins rapidly and you get the feeling you are falling from a great distance. After a moment, the spinning stops and you realize with joy that you are alive... |
Ratha (Sand Sprite) |
Asketi | 6 | 1 | Silvery light surrounds you, an icy light that smears your vision, and a heavy weight presses on your spirit 'til pain bursts like stars in your body and soul. At last, the cold light fades and you begin to feel as though a warm wind bears you upwards, drawing you out of cold and fear.
The wind finally dies down, and you find yourself alive...and elsewhere. |

Asketi | 6 | 2 | Silvery light surrounds you, an icy light that smears your vision, and a heavy weight presses on your spirit 'til pain bursts like stars in your body and soul. At last, the cold light fades and you begin to feel as though a warm wind bears you upwards, drawing you out of cold and fear.
The wind finally dies down, and you find yourself alive...and elsewhere. |
Forfedhdar (Near Asketi's Mount) |
Asketi | A freezing blast blows across your heart and mind, fraying both in every direction. Just as all starts to go dim, you hear a faint murmur and a soft warmth sweeps the cold away. Slowly, the light returns and as you perceive it, you realize that you are living once more.

Eylhaar | A freezing blast blows across your heart and mind, fraying both in every direction. Just as all starts to go dim, you hear a faint murmur and a soft warmth sweeps the cold away. Slowly, the light returns and as you perceive it, you realize that you are living once more.
Therengia (Zalfung) |
Eylhaar | A violent chill suddenly wracks your spirit, as if you had suddenly been wrenched into the depths of the most abyssal ocean. You relent to the cold and simply float under the inky ebon waters, allowing the current to do with you what it may.
As you ebb and flow along with the dark tide, you notice masses of swirling silver lights stir up all around you. They seem quite close, yet still far. The nebulous motion of the luminance mimics that of twinkling stars, yet you cannot be quite sure. Before you can ponder it much further, the lights begin to gradually grow brighter, until they roar with the brilliance of a thousand suns. You shut your eyes tightly, trying to shield yourself from the violent display but your flesh awakens with an intense burning sensation, jolted from its frigid slumber! Suddenly you feel yourself being expelled from the tide, your lungs burning with excruciating pain as you vault into a new body of water. After a moment of floating in the frigid pool, you realize with joy that you are very much alive. A severe, yet gentle feminine voice whispers, "You have been given another chance, my child. Arise anew within my spirit!"
*From Joenaynus* | Damaris | Light fades and darkness envelops you like a blanket, velvet soft against your skin. A voice whispers in your ear, "No child are you to be under my protection. Be off with you, and come not soon to my attentions." As the voice fades, you feel the prick of a dagger against the back of your neck, a sharp sting warning you against foolishness, and your vision clears to find yourself..
Mer'Kresh (Celpeze) |
Everild | A black, chilling hand reaches toward you but is pushed back by nothing you can discern other than a warm breath.
You shake off the fear and the pain, and find youself alive...and elsewhere.

Improvement suggestions to DEPART / making death matter more
I do think that death has become meaningless in DR. My character doesn't DEPART unless she is forced to, I have never used it as a "respawn" button because I don't like it. I miss the days when you had no depart and you were forced to find people to help you before your corpse decayed, not because I like the idea of losing my items but because it meant you had to interact with other players. The thing I hate most about dying is the time lost to train. Many people DEPART because it is inconvenient to find a cleric and an empath when you can just DEPART, fully healed of all wounds and get going pretty quickly again.
Make it inconvenient to use depart.
- What if DEPART brings you not to the nearest altar or temple, but to the temple of the god you last got a favor from?
- What if upon DEPARTing, your health, concentration, stamina, spirit, mana bars would not start rejuvenating until 1 hour real time had passed as your body recovers from the strain of being brought back through favors with your god?
- What if your body came through with a DEPART with all the wounds you had before you died, with a temporary blood staunching kind of effect to allow you to run to the healer and get assistance?
When it comes down to it, the best (and worst) penalty that I can suffer is loss of time to train. Make it take long enough to revive through DEPARTing that it becomes more attractive to get healed and resurrected, and you've just brought back the interaction from death that's been missing from the game for quite some time.
I like depart, I like not losing items, but I don't think that the depart option should be a better, more favored option than getting a cleric and empath to assist you. --MILLERK131 (talk) 13:03, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
- Just so there's no confusion, if you have a suggestion on a change to the game it should be posted on the official play.net boards or emailed to the SIMU feedback team. Talk pages and the wiki in general are not monitored by the GameMasters. The only exception to this at this time is feedback on policy pages. We don't want your suggestions getting lost or not seen by them being posted in the wrong location. Please let me know if you have any questions. --GAMERGIRL151 (talk) 08:55, 1 September 2016 (CDT)
