Sacred Insight is a new form of power perception for Paladins that is used to recover grave goods. There are three aspects of this ability, and each requires the Paladin to undergo a quest.
The Sacred Insight ability interacts with preexisting grave robbing mechanics. Tainted items (and people) can be perceived by Paladins. This ability works in any room where power perception works.
- Note: The presence of grave taint doesn't necessarily mean that the person is a grave robber. It just means that he has (or recently had) an item that came from a dead person. The grave robbing mechanics don't distinguish between benevolent and malevolent intentions: a person holding a grave good is tainted whether he intends to return it or steal it. (It's even possible that the person in possession isn't aware that the item came from a grave.)
Perceive Item
You hear a sound like a relaxed sigh echo about you and a sensation of warmth slowly grows in your chest. "Thank you," says a soft voice that almost sounds like your own. "In return, I will leave some of the gift I bestowed upon you. Use this sacred insight to assure that the possessions of the dead find their true owners.
- Translation: The Paladin can discern who owns a grave good and where the owner is (in real time).
- Syntax: PERCEIVE <ITEM>
- Paladin Sees:
You slow your breathing and clear your mind.
A soft red glow radiates outward from the item, pulsing ever so slightly, and you sense a strand of tenuous spiritual energy connecting to it.
You focus for just a moment on the strand and feel it tugging the item toward Owner, at Room Name.
As your attention focuses sharply on the ephemeral strand, your insight fades and you see your surroundings normally once more.
Roundtime: 4 sec.
- Observer Sees:
A soft white glow radiates from Paladin's eyes briefly.
Perceive Theft
A soothing heat spreads between your shoulder blades and sweeps through your body. Echoing all around you comes a voice, like yours but softer, saying, "Twice you bless me with your acts of selflessness. I am grateful for this, and as such I will bestow even greater sacred insight upon you. Your senses are now so keen that you may perceive theft in those around you.
- Translation: The Paladin can identify any tainted people who are in the room. This works on those who are (or were recently) in possession of grave goods.
- Syntax: PERCEIVE THEFT
- Paladin Sees:
You slow your breathing and clear your mind.
Like a mist rising from a pond, wisps of glowing red vapor drift upward from Target.
The eerie haze hangs in the air for several long moments before dispersing and allowing you to see your surroundings normally again.
Roundtime: 7 sec.
- Observer Sees:
A soft white glow radiates from Paladin's eyes briefly.
Perceive Person
"This is my final gift to you. Your sacred insight is now so well attuned that you may direct it at a specific target to sense what possessions they may have stolen from the dead." The voice fades, leaving you in contemplative silence.
- Translation: The Paladin can discern whether someone is in possession of a grave good, what that item is, and where the item is located (on the target's person). Even if the target is no longer in possession of the item, the Paladin can perceive the lingering taint of the grave for some time. However, he won't know which item the target used to have.
- Syntax: PERCEIVE <PERSON>
- Paladin Sees:
- Target in Possession
You slow your breathing and clear your mind.
A voluminous cloud of malevolent red smoke billows outward from Target's body, hovering over his head like a lurking shade and choking you with the miasma of death.
Forcing yourself to gaze deeper into the obscuring veil, you see it issuing forth from [item1] in [container] and [item2] in [container].
You are certain that you have identified all of the sources of the cloud.
As you focus on the cloud's origin you begin to lose your concentration.
The vapors slowly dissipate, leaving you in peace.
Roundtime: 7 sec.
- Target Not in Possession
You slow your breathing and clear your mind.
A voluminous cloud of malevolent red smoke billows outward from Target's body, hovering over his head like a lurking shade and choking you with the miasma of death.
Forcing yourself to gaze deeper into the obscuring veil, you see it issuing forth from Target's spiritual essence, and even now beginning to fade away.
You are certain that you have identified all of the sources of the cloud.
As you focus on the cloud's origin you begin to lose your concentration.
The vapors slowly dissipate, leaving you in peace.
Roundtime: 7 sec.
- Target Sees:
Paladin gazes intently at you.
A soft white glow radiates from Paladin's eyes briefly.
- Observer Sees:

Quest
Paladins must speak with Guildleader Cleworth of Therenborough to begin the quest. The quest involves traveling to the Necropolis in Aesry Surlaenis'a and speaking with Gravekeeper Aalar, who will send you on up to three quests.
The first quest has a relatively low circle requirement. Each quest has a higher requirement than the one that preceded it. It is likely that the third quest has a minimum requirement of 50th circle, though it would be prudent to wait until you can hunt graverobbers.
Each quest has a time limit, but there is ample time. If you fail, you can try again by speaking with Aalar.
Introduction Speech
Cleworth nods slowly. "I do have something which you may be well suited for, YOU." The Knight produces a folded piece of parchment and looks it over as he speaks. "I received this letter from the widower of a former pupil of mine. It informs me that the graverobbers on Aesry Surlaenis'a have reached new depths of sacrilege by desecrating a tomb that is uniquely revered by our Guild."
"I would like you to visit the Necropolis and look into this matter on my behalf," states Cleworth. "Speak to Aalar. He keeps watch over the graves. I will warn you however that he is very suspicious of visitors. You may need to mention that I set you on this task if he seems unwilling to accept your assistance."
The Paladin continues, "While you are there, you ought to stop and say a prayer at the tomb. It is said that those Paladins who honor the dead are often made their champion, blessed with a sacred insight that reveals injustice."
Cleworth tucks the letter away and nods to you, indicating that he has no more to say on the matter.
