After the recent experiments in Zengmodaleth, new information has been acquired that might inform future operations. |
In the most recent attack on the Crossing by the selreks, we faced three major threats. The first is a new warforged custodian. Its attack capabilities seem similar to those faced in Zengmodaleth: they use an electrical attack which seems to resemble the Gar Zeng spell, and an electrical debilitation attack that resembles the Tingle spell; however, they are much more resilient than those found in Zengmodaleth. |
First, Navesi and perhaps other Bards experienced a vision of the past in which a single custodian seemed to stop momentarily and deviate from the cycle it had performed countless times before. Navesi's initial impression of this event was that a custodian may have become self-aware, or otherwise spontaneously deviated from its cycle. Another theory is that something corrupted whatever signal was used to coordinate the cycle of the custodians sometime in the past. |
The second threat was lighting selreks themselves. These were fewer in number than the custodians in the Crossing attack. I was unable to gather useful intelligence on their combat strategies, but it is advised to operate under the assumption that they posses abilities similar to Chain Lightning and Lightning Bolt spells, and must not be targeted with electrical based magic under any circumstances. |
Second, within the factory, a single custodian broke away from its fellows, and, after examining those present, blasted with electricity a metal maw - an opening that allowed access to the west. The space was only large enough for small familiars to pass through. Familiars reported moving west through a narrow passage crackling with energy, above which they perceived the sound of hammering. At the end of the passage, a spider-like being coalesced from light and electricity, bearing fangs and dozens of eyes. Roaring like thunder, the entity tore the familiars apart. |
Finally, the selreks employed massive voltaic colossus in their invasion. From second hand accounts, it seems that the colossus was agile enough to employ physical attacks like kicks and stomps, and possessed a weapon that seems to be powered by cambrinth spheres, called a "lightning hammer." I did not witness the deployment of this weapon. |
Finally, Uryutis spoke to the company at some length, and seemed most preoccupied with the plasma vortex. This energy source was thought to necessitate four containment pylons, but the vortex found in the colossus that attacked the Crossing contained only two. After our experiments, he seemed excited to hear of the spider-being, which he said was indigenous to the Plane of Electricity and was thought to be hostile to the custodians. He mentioned including the spider-being in a report he will submit, presumably to the Grovekeepers. |
A colossus can be CLIMBed and entered by an opening in its thigh. The internal compartments seem to consist of the torso, as well as left and right shoulders. Climbing down from the left shoulder, one enters a space containing the inner workings of the lightning hammer. One can PUSH the HOPPER to damage the welding and disable the weapon. |
My analysis is as follows: |
* Investigate Western Zengmodaleth - after the colossus and custodians attacked the Crossing, the hammering sounds and the presence of a novel indigenous entity in western Zengmodaleth warrant a priority investigation. |
Climbing down the right shoulder, one enters a bay from which the warforged custodians are deployed. By YANKing the cable NEXUS these bays can be disabled. Traveling down from the torso, one enters ankle area of the colossus, where PUSHing a PIVOT can disable its locomotion. |
* Custodian Communication - the possibility that a custodian or something manipulating it intentionally opened the maw for our group to gather information should be considered. Adventurers with talents in mathematics and codes, including Cryle, Kethrai, Messica, Miskton and Navesi, should be consulted about the possibility of further communication, or the ability to detect and eliminate hostile intrusions into the signal coordinating the custodians. |
* Zengmodaleth Recon Team - the colossus is either a giant leap in technology from what the Warrior Mage guild has previously known, possibly wrought with the help of the indigenous spider-being, selreks, modified custodians or all three - or two of the other pylons are not located in the colossus, but in Zengmodaleth, or elsewhere. This might account for the way the colossus seemed to glow, liquefy and quickly travel. Should the colossus be sighted anywhere in Kermoria again, I recommend a high mobility team travel to Zengmodaleth and investigate while the colossus is deployed. |
Traveling up from the torso brings one to the plasma vortex, where PUSHing or PULLing the PYLONs damages the plasma vortex powering the colossus. It was not obvious which action was most effective, but I witnessed the destruction of pylons when Dantia pulled it. |
Once the plasma vortex was disabled, we were told by Grove Scholar Uryutis to exfiltrate to a safe distance from the colossus, after which, it glowed with some manner of energy before seeming to rise, liquefy and vanish. The latest edition of the First Land Herald contains more detailed descriptions of these entities. |

After Action Report - Selrek Invasion of Crossing 446 AL
For Mazrian Daemondred, Executive Officer of the Northern Watch
In the most recent attack on the Crossing by the selreks, we faced three major threats. The first is a new warforged custodian. Its attack capabilities seem similar to those faced in Zengmodaleth: they use an electrical attack which seems to resemble the Gar Zeng spell, and an electrical debilitation attack that resembles the Tingle spell; however, they are much more resilient than those found in Zengmodaleth.
Climbing down the right shoulder, one enters a bay from which the warforged custodians are deployed. By YANKing the cable NEXUS these bays can be disabled. Traveling down from the torso, one enters ankle area of the colossus, where PUSHing a PIVOT can disable its locomotion.
