Formula

Carrying capacity in stones (to go from no burden to light):

10 * [ 2*STRENGTH + 2*STAMINA + INT((STRENGTH+STAMINA+4)/5) + INT((STRENGTH+STAMINA+2)/5) ]

For capacity in coins, multiply by 5.
Note: Beards and mustaches do add your burden level
(INT above is the INTEGER function. IE INT(3.9) = 3)

Encumbrance Levels

Burden from lightest to greatest:

  • None
  • Light Burden
  • Somewhat Burdened
  • Burdened
  • Heavy Burden
  • Very Heavy Burden
  • Overburdened
  • Very Overburdened
  • Extremely Overburdened
  • Tottering Under Burden
  • Are you even able to move?
  • It's amazing you aren't squashed!

Effects

Encumbrance causes a penalty to evasion starting at Light Burden.[1] It used to start at a single point of burden, but this has since been changed. Previously, the penalty started at one point of burden, and its effects are described in the log below.
Dartenian says, "I don't wanna say how much, but let's just say even "none" can be a substantial penalty to evasion."
Dartenian says, "To put it in perspective, I'm fairly sure my own bard is taking about 25-30 ranks penalty to evasion just from burden, and he has none too."

Changes

There are no racial bonuses or penalties anymore.
