I would say that excessive use of symbols is definitely distracting and {{PRel|Out of Character|OOG}}.<br>

That's not to say that as soon as someone uses an emote :) that we should immediately report them... (I love my emotes... I know - emotes = evil!)<br>

Things that should definitely be avoided are things like:<br>
<br>
- Using symbols to draw attention:  <nowiki>!!!*****</nowiki> SELLING <nowiki>*****!!!</nowiki> blah blah<br>
<br>
- Using symbols to abbreviate things like currency:  That sword costs way too much $$!<br>
<br>
- Using symbols to replace normal characters:  $h3 $hou|dn't h@ve don3 it!<br>
<br>
Things that I'm '''personally''' not too fussed about include:<br>
<br>
- Using them sparesly:  <grins>  <nowiki>::</nowiki>smooch<nowiki>::</nowiki><br>
<br>
I know some people hate that, and I'm not mad on it myself, but it is arguable whether actions can be projected into thoughts.<br>
