How about a PC template rewrite so that not all of the categories are mandatory? The categories can't be removed for individual pages. If you wish to exclude a label such as 'status' or 'instance' by leaving it blank or using a '-' as per the instructions, you get a placeholder tag of 'unknown' or a blank row. The undesired row isn't actually omitted however. --FOUCAULT (talk) 18:54, 3 September 2016 (CDT)

When a PC has a memorial service and is considered dead

- I don't think this has been addressed by the moderators or the wiki community at large, but I was thinking today about what the official stance should be on changing a character (PC) from "active" to "dead" within this template. On one hand, if there is a memorial service held in-game, one presumes that the character will be permanently retired (ie. in-game dead). However, sometimes characters "re-emerge" after some time away by the player or a friend or family member might take up the account and choose to play the character again. Or of course, an account or character transfer might happen and the "dead" character might be seen again with "a new soul".
- I almost want to say that we should just remove the "dead" option from the template, and add a new "inactive" one to replace it, leaving "retired" for characters that still might get brushed off once in awhile but that a player doesn't consider using for interaction. Then in the case of where the player of a character has passed away, friends and family can decide how much further information they wish to provide. Perhaps even offering a new template sub-section like "PCRL" (Player Character Real Life) that is collapsed to start with and has a warning that the section contains OOC information that directs to the account holder page (ie. User:ZUERCAT vs. Kythryn) where that additional information can be kept.
- In a nutshell, right now the policy is to not edit PC pages unless you are the owner of that PC. But that does leave a grey area for when a player is no longer playing the game for whatever reason and it may behoove the in-game community to update a PC page status. ~ Kythryn 18:35, 8 May 2023 (CDT)
