Talk:Aethrolysis
DISCERN
>discern aethrolysis Elementalist scholars know that everything in the Plane of Abiding contains a modicum of aether therefore, in theory, so must any visitors if they are to exist here. Hylomorphic sorcerers go beyond that theory and many others: remove enough of the visitor's aether, and it is suddenly naked amidst a hostile reality. A Holy-mana blend, the Aethrolysis spell conjures a compound of electricity and water that laughs at the rules of either, harmful to creatures of extraplanar origin. This is a targeted spell, which must be TARGETed at a specific opponent. This spell does electricity and cold damage. It can be cast at other adventurers and at hostile creatures. It requires a minimum of two mana streams, and can expand to a maximum of fifty mana streams woven into it. To begin to be able to cast this spell, you will need to reach the rank of a promising novice. By the time you have mastered this spell, you will be ranked as a genius in your abilities as a caster. It requires the Targeted Magic skill to cast effectively. This spell has no prerequisites. It will also cost one spell slot.

The self-damage from casting the spell will start as minor hits to vitality without any observable physical component or direct messaging. Several mid to high mana casts (3 or 4 casts at 20-40 mana) will begin to result in special messaging and slightly more significant damage, although still nothing directly concerning. I haven't seen the damage get higher than this, but I would guess the damage scales up fairly rapidly with both repeated casts and stronger ones. The low level vitality hits from repeated small casts will persist for roughly an hour of real world time, depending on usage factors. Will update if I gather more data about duration, relative mana levels, and decay rates WINTER4 (talk) 01:01, 23 October 2017 (CDT)
