Talisman attachment
Talisman attachment
Overview
Introduced by Fun-Day Fridays 43 in June 2025, talisman attachments are single-use consumable items that attach (via the PUT command) to a fully carved Warrior Mage familiar talisman allowing it to be worn. Wearing a talisman allows a Warrior Mage with a free hand to SUMMON their worn talisman's FAMILIAR without having to hold the talisman in-hand [1]. Nouns vary; chain, cord, ribbon, but they function the same. Although talisman attachments cannot be recovered from a talisman once attached, they can be replaced with another talisman attachment. A neck-worn simple brass talisman chain is available for purchase from Sierack's Reagents in Shard for 720 Dokora. Fancier neck-worn versions were first presented at Guildfest 453 in the Books of Binding shop.
Attachment
Talisman attachments can only be attached to fully carved talismans.
>glance You glance down to see a simple talisman in your right hand and a simple brass talisman chain in your left hand.
STUDY my <talisman attachment>:
>study my talisman chain The talisman chain has a slightly peculiar design. You believe you could PUT it on a fully carved familiar talisman to make the talisman wearable around the neck.
PUT my <talisman attachment> ON my uncarved TALISMAN:
>put my chain on my simple talisman You feel unfamiliar with the simple talisman and decide against modifying it for now. >rub my talisman As you rub the simple talisman, you sense a bonding between it and you. >put my chain on my simple talisman The talisman is not yet carved enough for the talisman chain to fit it.
Attaching a talisman attachment to a fully carved talisman is a two-step process.
>glance You glance down to see a gerbil talisman in your right hand and a simple brass talisman chain in your left hand.
Step 1: PUT my <talisman attachment> ON my TALISMAN, assess the contemplated action and provides an advisory notice:
>put my chain on my gerbil talisman Holding your talisman chain up to the gerbil talisman to check their sizes, you are confident that you can securely attach the chain to the talisman. [Putting the talisman chain on the gerbil talisman will permanently change the look of the talisman. If you are sure you want to do this, repeat the command within 30 seconds.]
Step 2: PUT my <talisman attachment> ON my TALISMAN, executes the attachment:
>put my chain on my gerbil talisman Working carefully, you attach the talisman chain to your talisman and give it a gentle tug to test the binding, satisfied that it seems firmly affixed. [It may be a good idea to register your updated talisman.]
>glance You glance down to see a gerbil talisman suspended from a simple brass chain in your right hand and nothing in your left hand.
Replacement
Although talisman attachments cannot be recovered from a talisman once attached, they can be replaced with another talisman attachment. This is also a two-step process.
>glance You glance down to see a gerbil talisman suspended from a braided spidersilk cord in your right hand and a simple brass talisman chain in your left hand.
Step 1: PUT my <talisman attachment> ON my TALISMAN, assess the contemplated action and provides an advisory notice:
>put my chain on my gerbil talisman Holding your talisman chain up to the gerbil talisman to check their sizes, you are confident that you can securely attach the chain to the talisman, though you don't think you will be able to salvage the current attachment if you do so. [Putting the talisman chain on the gerbil talisman will permanently change the look of the talisman. If you are sure you want to do this, repeat the command within 30 seconds.]
Step 2: PUT my <talisman attachment> ON my TALISMAN, executes the attachment:
>put my chain on my gerbil talisman Removing and discarding the existing attachment, you attach the talisman chain to your talisman and give it a gentle tug to test the binding, satisfied that it seems firmly affixed. [It may be a good idea to register your updated talisman.]
>glance You glance down to see a gerbil talisman suspended from a simple brass chain in your right hand and nothing in your left hand.
Summoning
WEAR my TALISMAN:
>wear my gerbil talisman You hang a gerbil talisman suspended from a simple brass chain around your neck.
SUMMON FAMILIAR:
>glance You glance down to see a kirmhiro draught in your right hand and nothing in your left hand. >summon familiar You hold your talisman tightly and concentrate on summoning your gerbil. After a moment's silence an air gerbil appears, lands, and glances up at you expectantly.
Wearing a talisman alleviates the need to hold it in-hand to summon your familiar, but you still need a free hand to do so.
>glance You glance down to see a kirmhiro draught in your right hand and a kirmhiro draught in your left hand. >summon familiar You need a free hand for that.
