Protection from Evil
Abbreviation: PFE
Prerequisites: None
Minimum Prep: 1
Casting Cap: 55
Valid Spell Target: Self, Others, Group
Description: The Protection from Evil spell defends the faithful against the unholy touch of the Undead. It will also attempt to repel various varieties of magic including Necromancy, Sorcery, and all that employed by otherwise cursed or Undead beings. While not evil, attacks with origins in Holy magic or by minions of the dark gods are also buffered by this spell's pattern. Those with advanced skill in Primary Magic may find themselves able to cast this spell at their group, affecting all nearby with added difficulty. Depending on how skilled you are, the strength of the spell may be lessened compared to a singular weave of the pattern.

The strength of any singular weave of the spell is rooted in one's Primary Magic skill, with extra power simply lengthening its duration.

Example Messaging: You are bathed in a soft white glow for a moment.

A soft white nimbus ebbs toward you, melding with your luminous aura.

A soft white nimbus ebbs toward you, but soon dissipates.

A brilliant argent glow flares against the attack.

  • A wind hound charges at you. You counter nearly all the body with a steel mace. The body lands a grazing strike to your back.

Notes

  • Power is determined by original cast. Smaller casts just refresh the original cast. So pump power into it initially, then just keep it up with smaller preps.
  • Can be stacked up to 46 minutes.
  • The undead-only evasion bonus was converted to undead-only flat damage reduction (which can reduce incoming damage to 0).
  • It works as a barrier spell to reduce the power of aggressive spells cast at you by undead and cursed creatures.
    • PFE will protect extremely well versus all Necromancy, regardless if the caster is considered "Undead", "Cursed", or "Evil", or not.
    • PFE will protect moderately well versus all Sorcery, regardless if the caster is considered "Undead", "Cursed, "Evil", the minion of a dark god, or none of the above.
    • PFE will protect somewhat well versus all Holy magic, regardless if the caster is considered "Undead", "Cursed", "Evil", the minion of a dark god, or none of the above.
    • PFE will protect very well against all magic (regardless of type) when cast by "Undead", "Cursed", "Evil", or the minion of a dark god.
  • In many special attacks that originate from an undead or cursed creature, it will reduce the impact of the attack.
