Tuesday Tidings - 20
Guildleader Gauthus has reported that the survivors of an exploratory team sent forth to Therengia have returned with reports of their peers being waylaid by rock trolls and abducted into a previously unexplored pass along the Journalai Route! The novices, who fled the elder students leading the group, indicated that their superiors were mauled by an unrecognized, giant bear that seems to inhabit the area. Gauthus is seeking the assistance of capable adventurers to secure the pass and rid it of its infestation of ursines so that it may be further explored and mapped. Investigations are ongoing as to why the group was so far from their instructed destination.
So...yeah. The Therengia thing will happen, just...not as fast as we'd hoped for this week's project! There were some unexpected hurdles that have (temporarily) delayed that, for now! Heh. Surprise! Instead, we offer up some work on the long-neglected expansion to rock trolls that was begun back in 1999 by GM Rowan. There's a LOT more to this area, so you'll be seeing more in future phased releases as we head towards not only some new areas but new creatures (perhaps, we hope?). The bears are about level 45 by our evaluation tools, and they do have a bit of variation in their levels (-2 to +2, 43-47 total). It's a small area, for now, more of an 'area that exists to lead to another, more challenging area'. The hope is to lessen how severely novice explorers are outclassed as they journey into a new area before the higher creatures are introduced (hugely higher than rock trolls!). Watch out for next week's release, which is a surprise also! Thank you to GM Tullie for the QC on this, and to GM Zadraes for the help with the bears. Ulerith (for the team!)
