As mentioned previously, X is a master artisan when it comes to grafting and had the benefit of coming from a race that's already cursed and a little mechanically weird when it comes to how 'alive' they really need to be. He has made himself appear like a lich to intimidate people but his current path is on the ascent to Transcendence, not the Descent to lichdom. He has always had a soul. You can take some of X's prior appearances as sort of forays into what we see PC grafting as, it makes you a visible monster but potentially gives you power. Zamidren Book is a good example of a Necrolord that unlike most of the others is pretty much completely 'normal' in appearance and has been. That above part is OOC information except for a very few people in game. However what we've tried to get across is every major Necrolord is special in his or her own little way. They like to claim it's a science but in many respects it's a bunch of hands fumbling in different directions hoping to grasp onto something. -Z
