Since we don't have any spells creatures that work like this (aside from CFB), there will probably be some adjustment on how this works. The dirt construct awards some exp for glooping things, and more exp for killing them. That amount will scale a bit based on how hard its target is. This reflects its double duty as moderate DPS and moderate crowd control.

It doesn't award any exp for just attacking normally. You may try investigating some creative ways of getting it to lay down the smack for greater returns.

TM and mana are going to be your friends with getting more bang out of your construct, so to speak, but it's possible that its level might not scale with your hunting level in a perfectly intuitive sense. In my testing, they were quite dangerous in the right setting.

That said, I'm definitely interested in continued feedback, because, well, we want QE and CFB to both be both cool AND useful.
